To clarify, you're saying no to a TV-movie box set, or no to all of the titles on spawningblue's list?

All the Dan Curtis films are still with MPI

I Just can't understand the thought process of these companies that hold on to films , especially these films, like Killdozer, Night Stalker, etc...there they sit and as time goes by and the people that enjoyed when they were kids or young adults fade away there goes the chance to make a real buck off them. Why not at least sell the rights or share in rights for distribution while the market is still there? Collecting dust makes them no money...ugh..seems like Scream/Shout would be an ideal solution and has the perfect fan base for them. Frustrating.

for anyone who's interested two cult films are coming out on BD.
the Sharon Stone film Sliver and, also, Marathon Man will be released on Blu-Ray later this year!

Both announced recently.

Cliff, when will the official release date (with pricing and features) of the Vincent Price set come out? This is easily one of my most anticipated blu ray releases of the year!

Quick question, who owns the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

If Warner has it, then how did Dark Sky Films ever get a hold of it? Did they only acquire it later after Warner took over New Line?

I'll tell you an experience related to comic books from someone I knew...

A comic book store owner, years ago, had a bunch of inventory just sitting there... no interest in a lot of the titles... but a few of us customers actually liked those books... so he let us in there one day and we could get as many as we wanted 3 for a $1... so we all filled in our collections and were very happy.

Cut to about 6 months later... and those titles were suddenly in demand, and he was feeling sick at how he had literally given the books away like that.

He didn't sell them to us because he was strapped for cash... he sold them because we were regulars and he wanted to clear some floor space and not sort those collections of stuff that we were the only people who had asked him about in months.

So... why do people hold onto rights for movies that don't seem to be in demand?

Imagine yourself being the owner of Zombie Doom Paradise 10 years ago (I made up that name) and people said "why don't you release this, what are you waiting for?... and then Walking Dead comics + TV series hit it HUGE a few years ago and literally anybody who had a Zombie license started selling their stuff for 10x what they could get for it months earlier.

That's why some hold onto their licenses... Unless you are strapped for cash, there's no reason to take a "take it or leave it" deal from someone to release your movie... when you can sit on it and maybe the fandom comes around to your genre again and you can make better money.

Well that's disappointing. I guess that Facebook tease about what TV horror film we wish would be released was because they got Bodybags?

Hopefully someone jumps in and releases some of these. Maybe Synapse? I keep hearing about so many of these but they are all so hard to find. I was under the impression Dark Night of the Scarecrow sold well for VCI and was hoping it would encourage others to release more of these lost classics. Midnight Hour is my main want, it sells for a pretty penny on eBay and is one many want on the horror forum I frequent.

It was just a general conversational question.

Absolutely, I think some people read too much into every single little thing they post.

Id like to know why studios do just sit on titles in the first place...why not license them to someone who would release them ?

The TV-movie genre sadly remains underserved. Lots of great made-for-TV movies will stay in the vaults - the networks don't even care to rerun them on TV anymore because they're too busy rehashing the same shows over and over (reality TV). Releasing these films in 10-packs is probably the only way to go since almost no one will buy them if they're released individually but I believe that there is a fairly big market for them. And they don't need to be remastered or anything so that takes one layer of funding away. It's a shame really.

Well just about all of their other posts have 60-70 comments. That one had over 500 with requests so I'm not the only one that thought it meant they were releasing some TV horror films. It's an untapped market, someone's got to eventually release some of them, and I like many, hoped it would be Scream, since they have been releasing so many quality releases. That being said, Cliff is right in that they can't be the only horror film saviours. I think some of these could be right up Synapse or Scorpions alley as well.

It wasn't meant to be a tease. All sorts of questions are asked on the FB page and it's often about films we don't have the rights to.

Warner doesn't own it. They licensed it from the owners. The MPI/Dark Skys deal expired.
