This would be the first time I've ever heard of a dvd/blu-ray company with such a policy. It's not as though theres a Shout factory in Toronto where Canadians get to send defective discs for repairs/replacements.

I imagine Amazon has a preset list of reasons (like their hazard substances for batteries etc) for manufacturers and Shout picked one.

I just hope this isn't a way for Shout to "price fix" Canadian shoppers into a Twilight Time style model just without the 3000 unit limit.

You may quickly change your tune once they run out of their 3,000 units.

If Scream won't ship out of North America...and amazon won't ship out of North America...and ImportCds or whoever else won't ship out of North America, then a lot of these guys are just cut-off from Scream titles. Not every body in the world has a "friend" in the States who will buy discs for them and ship overseas.

Look, I get it. Americans are unhappy that the "rest of us" are complaining. You guys have access to all the Scream discs you want from multiple sources and you have no interest in what happens outside your borders. Believe me, we understand that. You're not interested in whiney foreigners.

Unfortunately, you can't close the internet at your borders so you'll have to just tolerate us.
Look, I totally understand I would be upset too and I'm not unhappy that some from outside the US are complaining...it's the way some are complaining thats annoying and disappointing. You are yelling at the wrong company for the wrong reasons. There are better ways to go about things is all I'm saying.

Oh and please on the Twilight thing...yeah enjoy the bare bones crap they are putting out. You probably wouldn't have a shot at half of them because they would sell out then have to pay triple later...no thanks. Makes me sick they got Fright Night. None of us no matter where you are from want that system for these type of titles.

The Amazon shipping restrictions should be fixed in a few days.
It was an Amazon error... not ours.

Oh thank FRAK for that. After just reading someones Pre-Order was cancelled due to that restriction, I almost panicked, as I have 13 titles on Pre-Order too.

Fingers crossed it does get resolved soon.

Thank *%^&.I thought it might be a mistake.losing foriegn sales would be a massive blow to sf as a doubt they're profit margins per title are huge.the one thing i wont forget is the shocking insular posts from just a few people on here.

NOTE

I don't know who is this person from Shout Factory that responded to Dono's request, but the reply makes very little sense.

Whether Shout Factory has licensed titles for distribution in North America is absolutely irrelevant, BECAUSE when you purchase a product from Amazon (U.S. branch) the transaction takes place in North America. Shout isn't doing anything illegal. Period.

IF...Shout Factory opened up a storefront on a different Amazon branch, then this would be an entirely different story.

Someone needs to get the record straight and make the necessary corrections. You cannot impose sale restrictions on a product when the product is actually sold in the territory for which it is licensed. Where the buyer is coming from is absolutely irrelevant, it is where the sale transaction takes place that matters.

It is quite unbelievable to see that someone could even think that such a restriction could be imposed on a vendor.

Some law firm is going to have a field day if this practice actually lasts more than a week or so.

I'm anxiously waiting for the Prince of Darkness pre-order to appear on Amazon.ca. One of my most anticipated discs of the entire year!! Best Buy here seems to only list them randomly...

Thanks for clearing this up CMAC.

I hope Amazon gives you more than the usual $5 gift certificate for their mistake. I doubt I was the only Amazon shopper who had an order partially or fully cancelled by their screw-up.

I hope this helps our friends in the U.K and Europe. They need some Shout Factory love.

Now THAT makes sense.

As I said in an earlier post...it seems more like somebody "got their wires crossed" or this was some "data entry contract worker pressing the wrong button" because none of this made any sense.

When you've been buying "mail order" as we used to call it in the old days, as a non-American, you get to learn the fine points of importing. First thing I ever ordered from the U.S. was a Batman periscope in 1966 (still have it). I ordered my first DVD from the U.S. probably about the same time amazon started selling DVDs (maybe 1999 or thereabouts).

But that amazon announcement was just off-the-wall.

Very well said.

I hope this does turn out to be an error like cmac says, though it doesn't explain the e-mail from the Shout rep.

But it's typical behaviour from some of our North American "cousins" (not all but some). They don't always seem to understand how lucky they are. And then when another territory gets the occasional decent release, or slipsteeldigi case they ***** and moan about how everywhere else gets all the best stuff.

For the record, I buy on average about twenty discs a month () and at least half of those are imports.

Remember that - importation aside - in the UK we get:

NO Criterion
NO Shout/Scream Factory
NO Olive Films
NO Twilight Time
VIRTUALLY no Warner Brothers product, a six-month delay on the stuff we do get and NO digibooks or special packaging
NO Kino
NO Scorpion

Please just think about that, folks, and give us some support when such situations arise. Some of these companies are very small and overseas sales help to keep them going. That's why they call it a "community", right?

EDIT: And yes - before I get accused of hypocrisy - I know that in the UK we have it pretty good in comparison with other territories.

Nicely said yourself. We all keep studios like Shout alive. I have 1160 blu's and buy of multiple studios. I'm sure they need it.

Badas, in regards to your email from SHOUT, it reads like they may have thought you were speaking of ordering directly from them, which because of rights issues, they definitely can not sell it overseas and send it to you, much like Criterion can't. As Pro-B pointed out, Amazon and various online retailers are a sort of work-around, as SHOUT isn't selling it directly, Amazon or a vendor is. Regardless, I'm glad everything is going to be all sorted out for everyone overseas. I know if I had been cut off from Arrow's releases I'd have been quite livid myself.

I agree that the US and Canada probably do get the best releases most of the time. However, as a huge kung fu flick fan, I don't know what I would have done if I wasn't able to import the brilliant Hong Kong Legends/Cine Asia dvd's from the UK a few years ago. Most of those movies were either never released on dvd in the west or were just long forgotten gems with a crappy release on vhs. Hong Kong Legends made them available for the first time to western fans remastered with impressive special features. There was no company in the US then or now that was putting that kind of time and effort into old school kung fu flicks. The only company even close was the now defunct Dragon Dynasty which was great as well, but their catalog wasn't even close to what their UK counterparts were releasing. Hong Kong Legends/Cine Asia is also now defunct, and I doubt there will ever be a company that takes a chance on such a niche market ever again. It was fun while it lasted though. Shout has dipped into the old school kung fu flicks a little, but it seems to just be the big stars e.g. Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan as of now.

This is clearly not true, as importcds have just shipped several Scream Factory releases to me yesterday.

I ordered two SF blu-rays on tuesday and two more on wednesday, and both orders were shipped to Denmark thursday.

No.no. In my original email I told them the Ammy situation. The response kinda look very standard to me. I would be so sad if this happened to Arrow. One of my favourites. I hope Ammy sorts this out by June 18th. Main release date. It is very suspect to me that Ammy has had this bug right before Shouts biggest release dates. I wouldn't be surprised if Ammy is playing games.
