Lots of announcements, just nothing I'd personally buy. Happy for fans of those films though...hopefully there will be something cool coming up for the rest of us

Plenty of good stuff still in store and more deals being worked on as well I've said it time and time again but 2014 is going to be another knock-out year for Scream Factory!

This thread has been 90% random horror talk since the end of the Friday announcements last year. DePalma and all.

And the Stepfather topic isn't gonna stop popping up because of an announcement, as its potentially an upcoming title. Not a wild guess, but a genuine possibility.
But for the past 2 days 99% of that 90% has revolved around De Palma and The Stepfather series... 2 topics that bore me to death. My post was simply me hoping out loud that something happens so that the topic of conversation switches again and I can once again participate. For a while it seemed like this thread always had at least 3 discussions going on at the same time, yet over the past few days things have narrowed to just the 2 aforementioned topics and I just feel left out.

Awful Boris Karloff movie ? I dont think so. Die, Monster Die is a lot better than many of those 80s slashers and other horrors including Bad Dreams, Visiting Hours and Night of the Demons. Its not the best Karloff film but its damn good (IMHO)

You certainly can't compare a 60s Monster Movie to an 80s slasher and say one is better than the other. Its all taste when it comes down to a comparison like that.

Imo, Slashers are my favorite sub-genre, so I'd disagree 100%.

It all comes down to taste. That being said, the Slasher definitely sold, X-Ray & Schizoid were #1 on the Amazon Horror Best Sellers list at release, and Shout said they'd only go after more slashers if they sold well.

Obviously they did, as they officially announced the upgrading of 2 of their own Slashers just a few weeks after release of the Cannon slashers. (Bad Dreams, I conisider a supernatural-slasher).

Although, I can almost bet Night of the Demons will outsell Die, Monster, Die!

So, again, it all comes down to taste, especially comparing two drastically different films.

As I said - IMO -- yes it has a lot to do taste with this. FYI, this has absolutely nothing to do with what movie will sell better I still think Die Monster Die is a better film but again this is just IMO.
Who says I cant compare , its a free country They are two completely different genres but they are both "films"
Doesn't really matter anyway , I like both genres and as long as Shout keeps bringing out titles of interest Ill be getting them...job and credit cards permitting

Night of the Demons is one of the best horror movies of the 80's. I am very pleased that Scream will be releasing it on blu in 2014. Hopefully they announce the other popular 80's title sometime this week.

Wow, ebay allows pre-orders for things that haven't even been officially up for pre-order?

Sure. It's been standard practice for years. You just noticed now?

I knew they had pre-orders, but I had always thought ebay had some policy that it must be available for purchase/shipment within 90 days or something.

Haha, that seller is also selling the 'Abyss' blu ray set with the 'Avatar' style artwork..

I was thinking of picking that up for a while now. I've never seen either, but the cover is very intriguing. Worth a blind buy?

EDIT- Actually, I was thinking TerrorVision / The Video Dead. That I was wondering about, but the aforementioned does look good too.

If something is on Amazon's #1 best seller list, what does that mean, exactly? Does it mean millions of people are buying that product or just that it happens to be the most popular that week because 12 people bought it as opposed to 8 people last week? I'm glad X-Ray/Schizoid is selling well and I hope more slashers are coming. I believe it's a very strong subgenre. Just look at the reaction to Synapse's Curtains/Prom Night announcement.

Not sure, I think it might be the rate that the product is selling at for a certain period.

TerrorVision was entertaining for what it was, but not one I'll revisit often. And I didn't care for the Video Dead. I would recommend seeing these movies first before a blind buy. I have only watched X-Ray from the X-Ray/Schizoid release, and I thought X-Ray was a very fun, but cheesy, slasher film. If you like the cheesier 80s slashers, then I would recommend this.

I just watched X-Ray Saturday and liked it but yes its one of the cheesier 80s slashers with plot holes big enough to drive a Mac Truck through.
