"SURPRISE TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Happy Monday all! We're mixing it up further here in the Factory and are traveling back to the 50s to bring you a pair of guilty pleasure B-Movie Creature Features. 1956's THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN and 1953's THE NEANDERTHAL MAN will be coming to DVD and Blu (both for the first time on the Blu format) from us in the early part of 2014."

I have to visit my cancer doctor tomorrow for an update on my latest tests.

Under these circumstances, I didn't think I'd be finding any reason to do the happy dance today...but I gotta say that announcement has put me in a much better mood.

They can't solely cater to you, ya know. They have to appeal to as many horror fans as possible.

Night of the Demons, I'd say, is extremely popular. Its a well known and generally well liked title.

Nosferatu is a classic, Cat People is fairly widely known, and Nightbreed is a cult classic.

Die, Monster, Die is a huge get for "classic" fans, so I think these are a good start to another good year for horror on blu.

These are great titles, we're lucky to have them. And they'll be announcing more soon, without a doubt.

And what, Night of the Demons isn't schlock? Look, I have no beef with 80's Horror movies but I like they're going for more variety; look, sometimes seeing titles from the same decade can start to get boring after a few months so it's nice they're going for titles from the 50's and 60's. And without these so-called "schlocks," you wouldn't see The Howling or The Fog, would you?

I counted 23 Non-80's titles, I'd say that it evens out the number of 80's Horror. Like I said, I'm glad they're going for more variety.

It is.

Now I have just about everything Scream and Shout have released and I love the stuff from the 1980's. Being born in 1958, the 80's are really my era...since I would have been 22 when the decade opened.

But my first love is 50's schlock because these are the films I saw on TV when I would stay up for the Saturday night "Chiller" during the 1960s.

Blu-ray has been very kind to the 1970's and 1980's. With Scream, Scorpion and Vinegar Syndrome, that era is increasingly well represented. 70's and 80's titles are coming out almost weekly. People who love 1980's horror (and I'm one of them) have nothing to complain about.

However, the low-budget fare from the golden era of the drive-in has been all but forgotten. There have been a few releases (FIRE MAIDEN OF OUTER SPACE, PLAN 9, GORGO etc.) but, in general, the great "teenage" oriented schlock of the old days has been almost ignored. It was quite common and popular on DVD but these titles rarely made the jump to BD. For me, this kind of stuff fills a big hole in my Blu-ray collection.
