MGM/Fox has been sitting on a POLTERGEIST III Blu-Ray that's ready to go. It's already been released virtually everywhere else around the world (and in some markets a couple of years ago!) so you have to figure MGM/Fox will eventually release it when there's a marketing hook to do so (and the 2014 remake would make sense).

That's what happens when a movie gets released for the some (Ninja III) and not the many ( Psycho, Prince of Darkness )
I expect the same with Eve of Destruction, Cat People, Saturn III , Beast of Hollow Mountain - these will sell to the "some" - the groups that love these films and those curious to try them. I bet by this time next year they will be on sale like Ninja III ..just my own humble opinion
I agree with you. It's like Twilight Time or any other label: the titles that sell well cover for the smaller titles that don't have the same level of interest. Personally I don't understand Shout's thinking on some of these...I know it's not Scream but of all the movies to license out from the ITV library, why would you choose MAN FRIDAY and the TV movie COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO? It's weird. Then when they don't sell, they'll stop releasing them and say it's because sales weren't there...yet IMO they could've picked better titles that those.

BTW, if you guys have region free players, there are terrific Blu-Rays of ENTER THE NINJA and REVENGE OF THE NINJA over in Germany that aren't that expensive too.

Now if they acquired Escape from NY or The Thing, I think we'd have pages of this

There's no doubt EFNY and The Thing would huge for Shout/Scream, and I'm sure they tried to get them, but weren't able to do so. I'm still hopeful that one day it will happen.
As for your expectation on the titles you listed, the only difference are those are all stand alone titles, and not the weakest part of a "trilogy".
My point was, I don't know how SF could gauge fan interest on something that, even for the really hardcore fans, is a bit of a stretch. They had to know that sales for this release were going to be nothing but abyssmal. I mean fan support for the label can only go so far. Which is why I suggested getting the other Ninja movies and bundling this one with it. It, pretty much, works with every other trilogy released on the format...so it stands to reason that it would work here.
Another good example of this would be the 4 Jaws films. Do you really think releasing Jaws The Revenge, or Jaws 3D would be a great indicator, sales-wise, as to how the original Jaws would sell?

I think it's a big mistake (and bad business practice) to gauge potential sales of one or more films by releasing - arguably- the weaker of a trilogy or, like Code Red is doing, the most obscure and potentially lowest-selling title of a group of acquisitions first. Maybe it was a matter of Ninja III being offered to SF and not the first two (the likeliest scenario) so they can't help that. I'm just concerned about certain films not making it to BD because of perceived low sales. I do see Shout Factory moving into higher-profile films and forgetting about the little obscure ones in the near future.

Honestly JAWS is a mixed bag. If I were a guessing man (which is all I do is guess but who cares) Id say those would appeal to more than the some. You have your JAWS fans who would probably get them. Jaws is a more mainstream name, however most would say that the sequels were inferior to the first one, which is the case for many films anyway. Id say this would fall between that some and many because of the name value of JAWS.

It's also apparent including Jeff himself stating that they want to appeal to all the different audiences which is why we are getting a wide variety of titles - it's mostly horror - but they are bouncing around the different eras and sub genres. They have appealed to the Ninja 3 fanbase, the Die Monster Die fanbase, the Prince of Darkness fanbase
Now..what about the Without Warning fanbase ??? (Id call this a "many" title)

From Beyond on blu-ray is worth it; it definitely looks better than the DVD with good image depth and color quality (like the machines purple glow) in places. I don't want to be misleading, I am not a critical technophile regarding a/v quality so may not be the best judge. I recall some bits looked soft at times but I suspected that may be due to film grade (uncut footage was once considered lost). From Beyond is worth the asking price, even as an upgrade from DVD; it's a surreal near classic.

IMO, if it it's JAWS 2 in the box, it'll sell. People forget how much of a hit the first sequel was, and I think it still has a good amount of fans, because it has so many returnees from the first film (most of the cast, John Williams, etc.). It's a perfectly entertaining movie even if it's a comedown from the first film.

Hell, even JAWS 3-D was a box-office hit, though I don't think it has nearly the same amount of admirers (plus if it's not 3-D, it loses most of its entertainment value). All bets are off when we're talking JAWS THE REVENGE.

Seriously though, if it's JAWS 2,3,4, I'd definitely put that in the "many" category. IMO they'd do as well if not better than the PSYCHO sequels or the AMITYVILLE box will.

It's a better movie and probably Kosugi's 2nd best behind Revenge of the Ninja. None of those movies had anything to do with the other. They were sequels in name only.

Sho Kosugi
Revenge of the Ninja
Ninja III: The Domination
Pray for Death (Uncut)

Michael Dudikoff
American Ninja
Avenging Force
American Ninja 2

Cliff, if you are reading this, I will definitely double dip on Ninja 3 if something like this happens from Shout in the future.
I can't figure out why Shout hasn't jumped on any of the Dudikoff/Bronson/Norris flicks yet, unless they're not available to them for whatever reason.

'Avenging Force' could be paired up with 'Invasion U.S.A.', since it's actually that movie's sequel.

If Scream wanted to delve into the Norris/Bronson stuff, they could easily include 'Hero & The Terror' and '10 to Midnight' to the line, without much of a fuss.

As a set most likely many..as individual stand alone titles maybe not so much
Its a tough call really. Giant sharks vs Psychos with a mother complex

I think Cliff said that the Bronson and Norris titles were all spoken for, but that was some time ago.

I hope whoever has spoken for these isn't some budget label like TGG. I thought Shout would be interested in these iconic films.

Still no release date for Scanners, The Brood, or Eraserhead guys. We'll have to wait until next year.

Michael Dudikoff was on my "I'd like to meet" list as a kid.

I haven't watched American Ninja since 1991, so it's been awhile.

Cliff,

Since you started introducing made for tv movies, I'd recommend The Ex with Yancy Butler from 1997. It's a decent thriller movie that I'd buy in a minute. It didn't even make it to DVD in region 1 (region A). Yancy Butler really holds up the movie with her performance.

I thought Scanners and Eraserhead were both getting picked up by Criterion? Not sure about The Brood though.

That's really consistent with Criterion Collection; they always hint at things way before they come out leaving fanboys prone to hyper stewing forever. I'm sure these releases will be great when they eventually come out but Criterion sure does know how to tease.

I just feel bad for the people that got the Scanners 2&3 double feature thinking that the first would be released in December.

Of all the people to feel bad for; those who bought Scanners 2/3 but couldn't see Scanners 1 in high definition first might be near the least worthy of your sentiments.
