Frogs would make a nice double feature, there aren't many rat-related movies, and Frogs is more than just Frogs, there's snakes and stuff too.

I just really like Frogs. And its MGM, so...

Id be worried Frogs, Empire of the Ants would wind up 4 movies on a disc so Im being careful what I wish for
I will say this if the Brain that Wouldnt Die goes HD and has the extra footage as the Timeless DVD does I will retire the 4 movies and get Reptilicus back as a single.. the quality for the 4 DVD is okay but with Neanderthal Man going to Blu Ray in January and the potential for Brain I wouldnt need the 4 movie set...
Time will tell.

I still wouldn't count on it hitting a Shout Factory BD any time soon.

It's more likely Food of the Gods and Empire of the Ants would end up as a double feature, for the MGM/AmerInt'l Bert I. Gordon Does HG Wells tribute.
And to quote two time-honored "Village of the Giants" MST3K-isms, "Is THIS the HG Wells part?" and "Y'know, as much as Bert I. Gordon was the 50's, he just wasn't the 60's(/70's)"

(American Int'l eventually had someone else complete the HG Wells "trilogy" with the '77 Island of Dr. Moreau, and you KNOW that has to have a Scream release someday if it hasn't already. )

I'm sure this has already been brought up considering how we put slipcovers under a microscope around here, but anyone else notice the change that seemingly has started with "Body Bags"?

The slips are now feel much more sleek rather than just basic card board, I guess? Wonder if it's here to stay, also wonder if it costs the same to have them produced this way, or if it's more or less expensive. Kind of surprised they didn't mention this change when they issued that statement about how they would be shrink wrapping the entire package including the slipcover, that is, if this is a permanent change.

I haven't gotten around to buying "Assault" or "Night of the Comet" yet to know if those slips are also the sleek feeling type, for lack of a better word.

I've noticed that the Slipcovers are more sleek as well, since LifeForce actually.
They are almost plastic-feeling, similar to the WB Slipcover for the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

... anyway, I saw on CNN this morning that Charles Manson is apparently going to get married in prison. Which is crazy in itself. But it got me thinking, what if Scream Factory could get their hands on the Helter Skelter film? The original, or possibly a double feature of the original and remake?

Im 99% positive its been touched on before, but I'd definitely like to see the original get a nice release in HD. Its so creepy.

I assume you speak of the Steve Railsback one? Warner strikes again.

RE: A potential double feature with Deadly Eyes and another film.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't all of the Scream Factory double/multi feature releases been single licensor releases where both/all titles on the release came from the same licensor?

EX: TerrorVision and Video Dead were both MGM releases while Bad Dreams and Visiting Hours are both Fox titles.

Unless they have another horror title to from Deadly Eyes's licensor, I have a feeling it'll be a solo release.

You're referring to the finish, correct?

The slipcovers that came with my copies of Body Bags and Night of the Comets have a glossy finish for some reason. All others, including Assault on Precinct 13 and Lifeforce, have had slipcovers with more of a matte or semi-gloss finish.

Other than 50s low budget B movies there is no real link to them - popcorn flicks really

You have an interesting point. Might that also be why the Movie Marathon releases have been temporarily discontinued? They may have run out of MGM catalog titles without good looking HD masters.

I dont think it was ever actually confirmed that they would be discontinuing the 4 packs. Just that they currently dont have any others planned. The context their words were used is debatable.

Plenty of other distributors mix companies on multi-pack releases, so I dont see why the couldnt/wouldnt. They just simply havent yet.

That being said, I think Deadly Eyes will just get a simple DVD+BD Combo Release.

Exactly, the finish. I just assume it had just began with "Body Bags." My "Lifeforce" copy feels like every other slip they've released pre-"Body Bags." Maybe they're doing second or third(?) runs of slips for movies pre-"Body Bags" with the new/different finish that is more glossy than just cardboard.

Maybe the choice of finish for slipcovers has something to do with the features sticker they put on it? I noticed Body Bags and Night of the Comet didnt have that sticker advertising the special features included. Maybe, i don't know.

Not sure about anyone else, but I loved those stickers. They just added to the whole aesthetic of the release. The one on They Live was awesome. That said, it is about time that they stop doing them. They have gotten to the point where the Scream line has released so many releases (CE or otherwise) that it is no longer fun or necessary to have the stickers.

I liked the stickers too. It added a little something to the whole package.

Like the stickers on VHS boxes, sorta.

I could see FOOD OF THE GODS and EMPIRE OF THE ANTS on a double feature (as MGM HD has played both in very good quality). Same thing with SQUIRM and FROGS, and MOTEL HELL and DERANGED (which MGM did pair up on their Midnight Movie line). All of these already have excellent HD transfers, so all Shout! would have to do is license them.
