People hear the name and make assumptions. It's one of the most important shows that ever aired on television.

I really hope it comes out on blu one day.

Of course I did, about half of the first season, that's how I arrived at my opinion of the show.

It's not my cup of tea either.

You're right about that, unfortunately. The series is used as template for all of these tween-aimed vampire themed films (and many current TV series) today, everything from Underworld to Twilight and from True Blood to Vampire Diaries. Granted, some are a bit bloodier than others but much of this stuff is pretty much all the same. I wish NEAR DARK would've been more successful back in '87 - this is where aspiring filmmakers should've gotten their inspiration from.

And regarding Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I get the feeling that this forum is a lot younger than I had originally thought because that show is arguably the reason we are currently experiencing The Golden Era Of Television right now. Absolutely transformational and exceptional on all levels. You guys can look forward to your Pumpkinheads, your Final Exams and your Game Of Thrones, but there will NEVER be a show like Buffy The Vampire Slayer again.
One of the Best shows ever. I still think that because of all the Buffy fans The Avengers wouldn't have been as big as it was had Joss not been attached to it.

FOX you NEED to release Buffy on BD!!!

Erm, I think Twin Peaks and The X Files are probably more why we are currently experiencing a Golden Era of TV (as you put it) not Buffy.

Yeah, I'm just gonna go ahead and disagree with that assumption.
I would think a few other factors played a role in The Avengers being such a box office giant:
1) Existing comic dating back decades
2) Iron Man being a huge hit
3) Thor being a huge hit
4) Captain America being a huge hit
5) Hulk being a huge hit(despite a different actor each time)
6) The Marvel Universe in general

There's really no comparison here. Buffy was a subversive show that is extremely well written, multi-layered and laid the groundwork for serialised television. Just look at episodes like The Body, The Gift and Hush. Shlocky drama like True Blood just does not compare.

The type of movies you're talking about are by the numbers blockbusters, geared to make make as much money as possible. That is not at all representative of what the show set out to do.

Although I will admit the first season is pretty rough, so I can understand the people who watched a few episodes and didn't enjoy it.

Let's not get too carried away. Serialized television existed long before Buffy adopted it later into its run and it was done better. Buffy is no Babylon 5.

This is the "let's derail the Scream Factory thread because, frankly, there's nothing happening right now at Scream Factory anyway" thread.

Haha! Well there's quite a bit going on with SF right now, but I'd really like to see Dog Soldiers go up for preorder!

"The Thread where people sarcastically ask what thread this is, and people respond with answers like "The thread where such and such", and then other people make fun of the fact that people are asking this, and then other people talk about other things that may or may not be completely on topic"

See this is why we should just tell DMRI2006 that this is the Scream Factory thread. It's much easier.

It's been up.

US (listed as The Ponce Pound): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00INXSITQ/
Canada (listed as Dog Soldiers): http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00INXSITQ/

Both listings have the same ASIN and release date, and the 105 minute runtime on the US listing matches the Dog Soldiers runtime.

Apparently, Amazon put the title up for preorder too early. Instead of deleting the listing, they temporarily renamed it. All of the August preorders are currently listed under aliases.

I would put Buffy closer to Near Dark quality-wise than any of those other four things you mentioned. I also don't think you can draw a line from Buffy to any of them, there were vampire romance stories all the way back to the 19th century and stuff like Interview with the Vampire (and the anne rice books that provided its source) was wildly popular before the Buffy series happened. I thought Buffy was a great show even though Buffy herself was a character I couldn't stand. It just had so many great supporting characters. I know this particular topic is mainly about people who watch primarily horror movies and thus couldn't care less about character development and thus are intent on throwing 10 year old level insults at anything that doesn't meet their required awesome-level of kills, but this was a pretty good show by any standard.

It'd be kinda neat if Factory had a sci-fi series. I can't think of a good name for it, though. Maybe something simple like Sci-Factory?

Disturbing Behavior is owned by MGM. Is there a chance Scream Factory might release it?

It is one of my favorite '90s horror films.

I can't wait for Final Exam from Scream! Just hope the transfer looks good.

I've always loved the atmosphere of a College Campus during semester finals. Everyone packing up, the departure of students at various times throughout the week, Students populating the library or dorm rooms studying, etc.

Final Exam gets a few things right with this atmosphere, but it could have been much more atmospheric. I think it does get the feel of desolate Halls, dorms, and gymnasiums right.
