Yeah but some of us don't want to spend or in cases cant spend money for the same titles getting re-released to death like Halloween, The Evil Dead. It will continue to happen though.. just like Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind.. some titles will get released long after we're gone too I bet, if there is physical media left by then

Nobody is asking everyone to buy every rerelease of every movie they like. That would be insane.

Very true.

Though, as has been proven by the compulsive nature of collectors, if the film is good enough people will keep re-buying these newer versions anyways. Maybe they're new to the game, maybe updated special features entice them, or in this case maybe they just think that Scream has waaay cooler artwork...

If the Evil Dead and Halloween weren't still making good money with every new release, they'd stop. But you're right. There's just some films that last. (Which is a good thing, really.)

I did not, but if you want them all, good on you. I, for one, don't need every release of something. I get what's best at the moment and if there's something better in the future, I consider it, usually ending with me deciding I'm fine with what I have. There are very few exceptions, multi-format wide: Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one I have on VHS and DVD, I plan on getting the Phantom of the Paradise BD soon, etc.

So remind me again why these haven't happened?

-Tales from the Hood
-Tales from the Dark side
-Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight/Bordello of Blood
-Ghoulies/Ghoulies 2 (I'd rather have parts 2 & 3, but 3 is with Lionsgate).
-The Cell
-Stigmata
-The Stephen King TV films (It, The Stand, etc)
-Phantasm 1,3,4
-Sorority House Massacre 2

Most all of these would (on the surface at least) appear to be bigger money makers then some of the recent releases and many of the titles several other posters are asking for. Does UNIVERSAL own most and that partnership has just gone bad, or are their other factors? I'm not even all that concerned if Scream Releases these titles, but in general what's the consensus on why these haven't happened, and are any even possible at this stage for scream?

You can get The Cell on bluray cheap from canada, it turns up in US B&M stores sometimes and it's only like 10 bucks off ebay or whatever. It's one of the very rare movies that got released in Canada but not the US :P I bought it cause I love the movie, the picture quality isn't exactly spectacular but knowing Shout it wouldn't look any different if they did it. Extras would be cool, but oh well, I still have my DVD for those.

Stigmata seems like the kind of thing that would get released by echo bridge for 3 dollars (late 90s/early 00s horror movies that have almost nonexistent fanbases).

Phantasm movies have been covered like 800 times in this thread, basically if getting the rights was easy they would have released 1 (and probably 3 as well) long ago!

Tales from the Darkside would be good since it has people like Tom Savini attached to it.

I don't believe "Shout!/Scream" has been able to get anything from Paramount who holds onto some or atleast one of those titles. And I believe "Ghoulies" parts 1 and 2 are with MGM and it would have to come from Fox, but then again wasn't "Lake Placid" a Fox title? So, I guess that one is possible?

Thats a good question, only something Scream Factory can really answer. Probably rights issues, some titles MGM didnt offer or Scream didnt want..probably a lot of factors

I'll be honest, it's the too obscure stuff that needs releases before any of the others. That doesn't make any of the others any less worthy, but anytime something gets a release that hasn't seen it since VHS, it's a sigh of relief for it no longer is under the threat of fading out of existence.

As for the obscure stuff, well they're the things I enjoy blind buying most. Things like Town That Dreaded Sundown, The Evictors, and soon Final Terror and Without Warning. 88 Films over in the UK (Not promoting or comparing or anything), just started a slasher collection, with the likes of Slaughterhouse, Scalps, and Splatter University amongst it, things that I don't think Scream or many other labels would touch, being rescued from obscurity onto the blu ray format.

So while yes, I would kill for Session 9, Riki Oh or April Fools Day to get proper upgrades, I'd much prefer obscurities.

Shout has worked with Paramount in the past by obtaining titles like the Walking Tall trilogy and The Duellists so they could very well be a possibility.

The existing HD transfer for Stigmata looks pretty terrible, it makes the rounds on cable occasionally. It is nearly as old as the original DVD release.

That looks great but isn't there a copyright infringement issue if you use trademarked Scream Factory logos and other insignia?

I seem to recall that Cliff originally said the DVD had sold disappointingly, so they were not likely to do a Blu-ray. And later, of course, they lost the rights.

It's a shame. I really liked their Kingdom DVD and would love to upgrade it to Blu.
