You sound like a broken record...a poorly crafted record at that.
It amuses me that people are amused by collectors.

Thank GOD, we all think differently.

I agree with rickah....Broken record.

Packaging is half the enjoyment to collector's, which I guess is something you don't understand, since you're dumb enough to trash the slipcovers.

I don't bother with slipcovers either. I don't trash them, but I couldn't care less if I get them or not.

I totally get that packaging is important to collectors. Even though I couldn't care less about them, I can understand the obsession with steelbooks. To a lesser extent, I get why people collect slipcovers--in some cases. The 3d covers for MIB3 and Inception are differentiated from the case art. Same with embossed/holofoil ones. However, I just got my copy of Night of the Comet, and the slipcover is in no way different from case art--this being so, how is it providing more enjoyment?

Exactly.

And the funny thing is, and people like Dex just don't get this, they should actually be thankful for collectors. Collectors definitely do their part to fund the releases that come out. I'd love to know how many people bought multiple copies of Man of Steel, as an example. Heck I've bought a couple SF releases because they had great bonus content, and nice packaging.
Some people just don't get it...they don't like to look beyond their own *most likely* miserable lives, and balk when....oh my God...someone does something different.
If someone out there is buying Scream CE's solely for the slipcovers, Fine by me! Help support the company so they can keep releasing this great content.
Some people will never understand that a blu-ray release is a "package". A "package" that offers a wide variety, to an even wider variety of fans. If you are only in it for barebones discs, just rent from Netflix! Or stream!
But hey to each his own. I say keep the bonus content and swag coming. You only live this life once, so I plan on having as much fun as I possibly can!

One thing I've learned from posting on forums is never to downplay or look down on any aspect of buying and collecting films. Packaging is important to a lot of people, and there are probably just as many folks who are indifferent about it - leave it at that.

Thank you for having an open mind! If only everyone thought like you!
Slips, for example, are not your thing, but you have the intelligence, and the understanding to realize that others do like them.
If we all thought/acted the same, the world would be a very boring place!

I just decided to put on a James Spader movie, and what do you know? Scream Factory favorite Tom Atkins showed up... for a scene.

What movie is it? Whoever guesses correctly gets points.

Slipcovers: God's greatest gift or an affront to the lord?

Here's my two cents...

[Show spoiler]

...collect accordingly...

...or don't, I really couldn't give two shits one way or the other.

Well, one of the things I enjoy doing with the Collector's Edition is to flip the artwork around, so I have the new artwork on the slipcover and the original artwork as the case art. I'm no slipcover junkie by any means, but I enjoy getting the Scream releases with the slips for that reason...

Thats it, its us collector's that are helping keep these companies releasing awesome editions and often films that have never seen a Blu ray release. I think this is a great thing. If a company is going the extra mile in terms of packaging and features, then I think they deserve the support. So if it wasn't for us, you guys who only care about the "movie", wouldn't even have that to enjoy on Blu.

Thats it, we only live once, so why not enjoy all these amazing releases.

I think that's a bit exaggerated.

You sure about that? I'm sure Scream and other more niche companies wouldn't continue to release stuff if people didn't buy there previous releases.

Was it confirmed that The Beast Within has a reversible cover? It's the old MGM Midnite Movies one.

In addition, "Crawlspace" has one as well.

Not exaggerated, in my case. I started buying only for the movie but soon afterwards I upgraded to the better editions. I was a sale junkie but now I pay attention to all the exclusive retailer releases to get my preferred editions. I don't like big box sets that don't fit on my shelf and if there is, like, a $50 difference I will pass but the edition definitely influences me. I have 450+ movies. That is an obvious collection and a hobby. I am proud of it and want it to be the best.

That being said... when 3 different studios release a bare-bones version of a movie and they all call it a "Collector's Edition" that is going a bit far. The name is stupid but the content and packaging is what makes it a collector's edition.

I can't remember if it was on this thread but a while back Cliff mentioned that they asked Universal for The Car but Universal told them no because they had plans for it. Now, I don't think Universal has any intentions on releasing it, it's not a title that would sell like hot cakes. Has anyone heard anything regarding The Car?

Ding ding ding! Mallet rings the bell.

That's half the fun of getting an SF release. You pull off the slipcover, tear open the plastic, flip the cover, put the slipcover back on and then sit there playing presto-changeo for a few minutes.

Haven't heard anything for Region A but the Arrow release is most excellent.
