Just posted this on the Scorpion thread, and thought it may be of some interest.

Also, why did this show up under the Maximum Overdrive page? Gulp.

Warner Home Video (all media)
EDIT: And also Trick or Treat with Ozzy and Gene Simmons. Double gulp.

I thought some company called Phase 4 had the rights to Maximum Overdrive. I know my old VHS of it was released by Lorimer though.

It's still possible that that's true, as there is no year listed. I hope you're right.

Here's the thing with Herzog's Nosferatu. Herzog kind of, sort of shot the same film twice, simultaneously; a German version and an International version (filmed in English). There is a lot of shared footage, but the two versions are pretty different and the shots aren't exactly identical. A scene in one version might be a close-up, but might be a pulled back in the other.

If I absolutely had to pick one over the other, I'd probably go with the longer, German version, since German would've been the native tongue for most of the cast members, but I really, really would like to have both.

Thanks. There's always something new that I haven't seen coming out these days.
Or in the case of Nosferatu, something I've heard a lot about, but never been able to experience.

I just listened to the commentary from Horror Show between Sean Cunningham and DVD producer. The House films were brought up a lot. Hopefully this will increase the possibility of House 1,2 and 4 get released on blu-ray as part of Scream Factory titles.

I just now realized that the Nosferatu the Scream is releasing is not the same as the Nosferatu that Kino released. I feel dumb now.

Sorry, bud. Never going to happen. Unless one specific guy who now works for Image goes over to Shout, House 1&2 will not happen, as the Lakeshore catalog owner only works with him. House 4 is Warner, so maybe when hell freezes over.

For those interested, "The Howling" is on sale on Amazon right now for a little over $16. Really solid Blu-Ray release from Scream Factory, and a great film overall.

Listened to that commentary myself and gotta say Sean Cunningham comes across as a right muppet, no respect for horror or its fans at all. Its just money to him. The track was a dissapointment in other ways to, commentarys for films like this should focus on behind the scenes info, recollections of shooting rather than having just a conversation about what dramas Cunningham likes.

Movie rights are most often traded in bundles. Acquisition of assets, like a catalogue of movie titles, can drive up the company's value and reflect on the stock prices, thus be of interest to any shareholder. It can also make the company more attractive if you are looking to sell (a strategy that was often mentioned in regard to Lionsgate a few years back).

Another point is that distributors will buy a catalogue of titles and only utilize the ones they deem most profitable. The rest will often only be used in bundles for the TV market and, now, streaming.

Don't make the mistake that any of these companies are in it for the love of the art form. You have to go to indie labels to find that form of connection. The rest might as well be peddling toilet paper.

For now until they change it 10 times before now and then.
I'd go with Family Video.

Why go with Family Video? I've heard nothing but good things. There SF titles are usually under $20 and they only charge $1.99 shipping whether you order 1 or 10 things.

Family Video is very reliable. They have over 900 stores across America.
And their online retail service is amazing.

It's a good site to order from, and fairly cheap.
