You can look at any decade of the film history and find brilliant horror movies - perhaps with the exception of the first two (but then, you can discuss whether the horror film existed as a genre at all at that point) - that does not mean the decades as a whole were particularly good. |

I think the 90s was a great decade for horror movies. I think that people look down on the decade because of the Scream clones that were released in the last part, but even the 80s wasn't without its subpar clones of the more successful films. The 80s were full of Halloween and Friday the 13th clones, and even Friday the 13th came because of the success of Halloween. And Halloween owes quite a bit to Black Christmas. Still, there were countless 80s slashers that tried to emulate the more successful films (He Knows You're Alone -- even though I love the movie -- completely ripped off Halloween, from the music to the shooting style). I think the biggest difference with the 80s is that there were just so many of them, but because there were so many, we also got plenty of classics. But for every classic, there were probably at least 10 clones that ripped it off.
Now, I love the 80s; I grew up watching those movies, so they hold a lot of nostalgic value to me. But I was 12 when Scream came out, so I was probably in the perfect target audience for those films. The Scream clones were also very short lived. Once the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake came out in 2003, that kind of signaled the death of the Scream clone and the birth of the remakes. We also had Saw in 2004 that spawned a different set of clones. If anything, I think we're in the worst time for horror right now. The only thing saving us are labels like Scream Factory, Synapse, Blue Underground, etc., that are releasing all the classics we've loved for years. But horror movies in theaters have been few and far between. How many horror movies were released in theaters in 2013? The only ones I can think of are Texas Chainsaw 3D, Evil Dead, The Conjuring, Insidious 2, and Carrie. That's only one original horror movie, 2 sequels, and 2 remakes. I'm probably missing some. 2014 looks like even less. We've got 2 Paranormal Activity movies and Devil's Due. |

Movies are in a weird transitional period right now, I think everything is going to stop being so self aware and more traditional very soon. Films come in phases but now it seems to be the awkward phase of not having a phase.
------------ Now, I was thinking and with The Marked Ones being released, it would be cool to have Paranormal Activity: Tokyo Night get a legit Region A release (with English subs so I can toss my bootleg!), maybe Scream Factory could get it from Blumhouse? (Unless the tie-in to PA means it would be super expensive to acquire). Last edited by redrunner97; 01-17-2014 at 09:04 PM. |

These are all great and memorable horror films, but the newest of these, Eden Lake, is already 6 years old, and High Tension came out 11 years ago. |

I liked the Woman In Black , the first SAW film, Insidious 1 and 2 , The Devils Rejects, Bait, Land of the Dead, Zombieland as far as recent horror goes
1990s horrors that I enjoy include From Dusk Till Dawn, Tremors, Night of the Living Dead remake, Exorcist III, Tales from the Darkside, DEMON KNIGHT (not Bordello of Blood meh) Puppet Master II, III , Scanners II and III, Omen IV, Alligator II, Demonic Toys, Army of Darkness, Body Bags, Ticks , Village of the Damned, Jason Goes to Hell, The Faculty, Body Snatchers, End of Days, Mosquito ! ....etc etc So it wasnt such a bad decade at all ![]() Last edited by dsman71; 01-17-2014 at 03:01 PM. |

I'm really scared, so I have not seen Evil Dead yet. I have heard from many saying it was great, but people who have views very close to mine have said it is awful. I'm going to grab it sometime next month.

In case you guys didn't know and are interested. Dxtra30 posted that Target has Night Of The Comet for $18.99.
http://www.target.com/p/night-of-the...5_201312110217 While cheap, I'm going to hold out on another Scream Factory sale. In the distant future. |

Oh yes that one we need. Would hate if a certain german label get their hands on it and release another movie with inserted scenes with vhs quality like they did Slinger (Cyborg) and Punisher.
