All this talk about commissioned artwork sparked a question in my head...

Would you give up having special, new commissioned artwork for each Scream Factory release, if that meant they could lower the cost of each release?

I enjoy a lot of the new art but I'm of the "take it or leave it" mentality. It's not really crucial to my decision to purchase a movie, so I'd be inclined to want a cheaper disc, even if it meant sacrificing the new art.

What are your thoughts on this?

What about when a title is acquired, before work has started (so no costs) on artwork they did a poll.
Original poster artwork, original home video release artwork (if different) or brand new artwork- to be unveiled on release date news.

This way they’ll know up front and people will get what they want

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is any cheaper to use original art/poster art. I think they would still have to pay to be able to distribute the cover art, someone will own rights to that.
An example, I’m guessing if Fox made, produced and issued Die Hard (just an example) then part of the production would be the advertising campaign (poster art) and I guess they’ll own its rights, so its up to them when they release Die Hard whether to use or use something different.

I think if Scream then did a deal for the rights to distribute Die Hard on Blu they’ve bought the rights to the film. They may then have to do a deal to buy the poster art from Fox to use on their covers. Maybe the same thing if Fox did a behind the scenes extra, Scream would have to buy that in addition if they want it as an extra.

Guess work and I’m not saying Fox did that for Die Hard or Scream would entertain releasing Die Hard

Depends on how much the commissioned artwork adds to the MSRP.

I think the higher cost has more to do with the higher production cost of Blu Ray and lower buy rate of catalog physical media in today's market. The Witchboard release which has no newly commissioned art is the same price on Shout Factory's website, as Night of the Demons, which has newly commissioned art.

In addition, the new artwork almost guarantees at least 200 direct sales for Shout on each CE new title, because of the poster.

It's perfect the way it is. You get new and original.
Why do a poll and only get one? That's like having your cake and eating it too, but then throwing it up...

How exactly would that work?

Regardless, Its fine the way it is.

New and Original art!! Whats better than that? That literally pleases everyone, and Cliff and co certainly know that.

Not me, as it's one of the draws. I don't mind paying for something I like, and the custom artwork, along with the original artwork is a great selling point, to me.
Perhaps if they made a non-slipcovered with only original art available on release day at a slightly lower cost? I'm not sure how much they could knock off because of that, or if it's even viable.
If I was a "just give me the disc" kind of guy, I would be buying all my BDs at pawn shops for a fraction of the cost anyway. Thankfully that's not my cup o'tea!

I completely agree with that statement. Why mess up a good thing.

Now....this is a very good idea I'd like to see implemented a little more. Some movies get upwards of several teaser posters before release of the main one....

Hmm... I still want The Burning but there's no guarantee of a slip (I know a user said they ordered in August but that's a long time ago). Has anyone bought since then and received one? If so, where? I never have much luck on Amazon when it comes to slips, anyway.

I got Phantasm II (released before The Burning) and The Howling for christmas and they both came with the slip covers. I can't vouch for The Burning itself but that might give you some extra confidence.

Was that direct or from Amazon?

Not sure I really appreciate the tone of that; of course I can live without a slip... but I like them, I have a bunch of movies with them, and I don't see what's so wrong with wanting to continue that. Live and let live.

True story.

And reversible slipcovers would be a cool thing to dabble with.. It would probably be expensive to produce though and would have to make use of velcro or magnetic strips perhaps, like the gatefold slips.. I think it would also have to be thicker cardboard than it already is. It would be cool though

I like the new art too. However, I would prefer them to stop including the DVDs if it meant lowering the price some.

Yes... In a lot of ways the forum is the 3rd grade. "I don't like I when posters go off topic with useless wish lists. I'm telling teacher (mods)."

Australia's release of beastmaster is off topic. It has nothing to do with scream factory and at best would belong on a shout factory wish list. If you hate when we go off topic with useless wish lists why contribute to off topic conversation? Personally I don't care if you talk about beastmaster but If you feel you have the right to say something when you feel someone goes off topic why isn't it fair for someone to give you the business when you go off topic?
