I don't see how either film is "important".

Going solely on whether or not the films have stuck in the cultural zeitgeist, which is the only possible way I can think of to judge that, it's Phantasm that's more important.

Phantasm is obviously the more important and influential film of the two, I can't see any grounds for debate on that.

Yes Phantasm. I'm not sure if you are serious?

Again, lols.

Look, i'm not going to go into this as it could get a bit rough, but I will say that I actually was shown Ginger Snaps by one of my film lecturers at university, and I wrote a piece on it and I tell you, I could have done a dissertation on it if I wanted to. I got the best grade I had ever got doing that essay. Now, if I had asked him to show us Phantasm, he'd laugh right in my face. And for a long time. That's all i'm saying.

I don't dislike Phantasm, I actually find it quite fun, but some films have their intellectual limits.

Yes, I remember that. I think they were forced to choose between releasing that and Bonnie's Kids, and unfortunately they released Bonnie's Kids instead. Not that Bonnie's Kids didn't deserve a release, but I'd have much rather had Death Spa.

After Bonnie's Kids, I'm pretty sure they closed up shop on catalog releases and focused solely on producing new films.

doesn't MGM own the fantastic movie Scarecrows? It already has an HD master I imagine and I think it has a fan base. I would love to see that from Scream Factory. One of the better low budget horror movies from the 80's

and I agree. Serious? Phantasm is an iconic movie. Up there with the likes of Halloween, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street.

Yes, Scarecrows is MGM and would be an ideal fit for the line.

How will it get 'ugly'? I'm intrigued.

I love Phantasm. Beyond its outré elements(which I guess is why it would get brushed off by film lecturers...or something?), I find it a movie that's smarter than given credit for. The sequels rang hollow to me(I still enjoy them). They felt empty and I always found the first one to be about the fear of abandonment.

Scarecrows is great and I hope Scream releases it on Blu. I remember there were supposed to be features on the DVD, but what we got was bare-bones, which saddens me.

I love Phantasm and think its a much bigger title release than the lot of Death Spa, Killer Workout...
Definitely iconic since it spawned phour sequels !

I just don't want this getting out of hand, that's all. GS is a remarkable film, and if i'm honest, I feel rather silly having give reasons as to how it compares with bleeding' Phantasm.

It's your assertion that it is a more important (and by extension, influential) film than Phantasm that we're contesting. You're allowed to like a film more than another of course (I happen to like Ginger Snaps as well), but you'll have to lecture me on the impact Ginger Snaps has had on cinema over the past decade or so since it was released, because I fail to see it.

A film doesn't need to have had a big influence on cinema as a whole to be deemed important. There are other reasons why this film is more interesting and has more to offer than Phantasm.

Dick Donnar's Superman is very influential, but how important is it?

You are beginning to confuse me. What exactly do you mean by "important"? You seem to be using the terms as both different and interchangeably.

Very well. What are these reasons then? Why is it more important than Phantasm?

I have a problem when people use the word 'important' when it comes to films. Criterion, for example, would have us believe that 'Ride With The Devil' is important. You have to understand that in certain cases others won't feel the same way.

I think I should just let other things get discussed here for a bit until I continue discussing GS.
