You are absolutely right. I hope that they announce something mind numbing now, like Troll.

Subtext is always fascinating. Even some of the most fun Horror films have more meat to them and considering I watched Robocop last night, the satire still rings true.

Okay. Find subtext in Ghoulies Go to College. You have 13 minutes.

It's being ironic, because college is supposed to make you smarter.

So given your example in an attempt to stump me, you don't like the idea of a film being much more?

I do, but this thread is not really the place for it, if you ask me. I think there is one film (GS) they have put out that fits the subject.

EDIT: My last thing about this. https://soundcloud.com/radiodromesho...omen-in-danger

No worries. Most of the Carpenter films have some sort of subtext to them, but They Live is probably the most overt example.

If you enjoy Bram Stoker's novel, then you'll probably enjoy the film. IMO, its tone and story are pretty close to the novel.

I have not yet seen The Beast Within, so I cannot speak to it.

To be honest, I've never read it. My history with the stories of Dracula are all film based, from the original "Nosferatu" to the Universal Dracula films to "Bram Stoker's Dracula." I have access to "Horror of Dracula", but I have still haven't gotten around to viewing it. So, I guess where does Herzog's "Nosferatu" rank among all the other film adaptions?

Edit - Forgot to mention, I have seen "Blacula" as well.

The first Blacula was fun. The second one was boring, but at least it had Pam Grier.

Herzog's Nosferatu is probably the bleakest, most serious adaptation of the story I'm aware of. The F.W. Murnau original probably comes the closest, but even that version has some seemingly light-hearted moments. It's not sexy and it's not romantic.

Wow. I think you really just sold me on this one. Thanks man. I'm aware of Werzog and his style, dude's a maniac, a man's man, just never seen this one.

Totally agree.

I first watched this as 18-19 years old and did not care much for it, mostly because of its pacing (which is kind of strange, now that I think of it, because I watched movies like Citizen Kane and Seven Samurai on TV as a 13 year old and loved them).

I saw Herzog's Nosferatu again only a couple of years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. It's SO bleak. I think it's my second favorite vampire movie now, only surpassed by the original, which I hold a tiny bit higher because of its technical accomplishments and influence on the genre.

If you like Dracula, you owe it to yourself to check out Horror of Dracula! For my money, it is the probably the best Dracula film and one of the better "classic" horror films in general. However, I am a big sucker for anything and everything Hammer.
