I could be wrong, but I believe the same company that owns the rights to Black Christmas, Somerville House, owns Rabid.

Apparentl they couldn't get them to let go of it.

Black Christmas is my #3 horror movie of all time so I'd love for them to get the rights.

That's too bad about Rabid... it would need some serious care for a proper release, even if.

In response to this talk about Rabid, there is some good news for those who like it.
It appears to have gotten a new restoration recently and is travelling with a retrospective of David Cronenbergs entire body of work (which I'm lucky enough to have stopping in Vancouver) in a new 35mm print!
Take a look below the description:

There was some talk about Criterion releasing several of Cronenberg's early works, either individually or en masse. Scanners is all but confirmed, but as for the other contenders, The Brood is the most likely, with Shivers and Rabid quite possible as well.

I'd wet my drawers in delight if some sort of salad days Cronenberg body horror box were released with all of the above, but no news of that yet.

If Rabid's been restored for the theatrical circuit, it's a good bet that someone's going to release it in the near future.

Scanners and The Brood are both confirmed. Do a search for David Cronenberg on iTunes.

I think both would be Scream. Godzilla is a monster. Monsters are horror. Scream is horror, therefore Godzilla belongs in Scream.

FYI Bad Dreams/Visiting Hours is $15 at Amazon right now, for those who still need it.

Why is Lionsgate so against licensing movies? Warner Bros. has an excuse - they want to do it themselves - someday - but LG is just hogging these movies with NO intention of doing anything with them. I hate them with a passion.
