The German disc is only $16.44 plus shipping, and the improvement is noticeable - in terms of file size alone, 31 GB vs 13 for the US one. Don't sacrifice a superior presentation just to save 5 bucks.

I have the US BD, but I'll be getting the German release. It looks nice and has good extras. I thought about ordering it along with the German BD of Society. I have to check for a review of that one though. The UK release seems like it could be hung up for quite awhile.

I watched my Scream Factory Blu-ray of Lifeforce this afternoon. This is such a ridiculous and nonsensical movie on so many levels, but it's still a lot of fun in the way that 1980s B-movies were before the days of computer-generated effects.

Steve Railsback took overacting to a whole new level in Lifeforce, but his character is still convincing and compelling. Peter Firth is quite good, as usual. I cannot say anything about Mathilda May that has not already been said, but...it's all good.

I though Anchor Bay aquired the Halloween sequels. I think that'd be much more likely since they are a larger company that could have gotten the entire 2nd half of the Miramax catalog.

I read that SF paid out the @ss for the trio of films in a paraphrased quote from Don May. This was in the Collection thread.

^ I'm not 100% sure about the comment in that link. I mean, what would Echo Bridge have to do with it anyway? This would be through Miramax (post-Echo Bridge) Seems a bit fishy to me. We'll find out tomorrow though! Either way this is a huge win for Halloween fans!

Me neither, but I'm pretty sure that's the source of this story.

I'm with the camp that believes Shout has swapped films with Anchor Bay and have acquired the remaining Phantasm movies. The original plan was for AB to release the 5th film but that could've changed. I'm thinking there's going to be a big Phantasm box set, maybe for Halloween. I'm WAY more excited about a potential Phantasm set than I am for Halloween, especially considering AB is doing it. They'll find some way to screw it up IMO.

I hope the Phantasms don't come in a box set since II has been out for so long. I'd rather single Collector's Edition releases of the rest or just the first as a CE with III and IV as a double feature.

That is, if they have them.

That would be my ideal scenario too.

But since I just bought Phantasm II recently, I can almost guarantee a box set.

If they do a Phantasm box set hopefully they go back and do a proper transfer for II.

True that. I'm going to return to the Lifeforce Blu-ray tonight to watch the commentary tracks and the theatrical version.

I loved revisiting this slice of 1980s nostalgia. Several aspects of the film are outright laughable, but it's still a solid good movie with some great visuals.

A potential Halloween box set is big news... but I really doubt that is Scream Factory's announcement especially if they are not the studio releasing it. I am sure they will discuss something else (maybe a Phantasm box, but there seems little factual basis to assume such). Also, as amazing as these boxes sound I've learned long ago not to "count your chickens before they hatch;" there's so many "believe it when you see it" rumors floating around [yes, Amazon listing - blah blah blah].

I'd be super excited for either, but three pages of enthusiasm for one box set that we don't have anything definitive on (and seemed highly unlikely) along with another one that's just speculation seems bound to end is disappointment.

What I think will happen is that AB will release the box set with Shout granting them permission to H6, H20 and Ressurrection which are the ones that are rumored Shout licensed. Then Shout will release those as single under their Collector's Edition banner.....Shout will probably get some royalties from AB for letting them use those 3 movies and then Shout will make some additional $$$ on the single releases. To me, this scenario would be a win-win situation for Shout. Just my .2 cents.

Well the Phantasm I, II and IV DVDs recently went out of print, so I thought that maybe Anchor Bay had lost the rights to another company. It is possible that Anchor Bay licensed them out to Scream Factory or they are collaborating on a box set.

Maybe Scream Factory will have nothing to do with this release though. Universal could be the ones licensing out Halloween II and III, and Anchor Bay could be the ones who go the rights to the Miramax titles.
