Quick poll guys & gals, tomorrow I have a store credit and plan on having them order me a "Scream Factory" title I still haven't gotten around to purchasing yet. All of the titles I'm considering are blind-buys, what I'm looking for is which of these titles has the best overall package, fair amount of bonus material and rather fun to watch with some replay value. Here's what I'm considering..

- "Evilspeak"
- "Witchboard"
- "The Beast Within"

I was once also considering "Final Exam" I've seen it once before, but don't remember much of it and a lot of people seem to think it sucks so I took it out of the running. Eventually I'll buy all the titles listed, but what one do you think should be purchased first, which is the best?

Such crap.
This is why I always prefer ordering them from Amazon, I don't care if I don't get a poster or whatever deal their offering, I just want a perfect package. Assuming you did order from "Shout!/Scream."

I did order from Shout! The slip for Body Bags is mostly ok, the one for Assault On Precinct 13 looks like someone picked and edge and ripped and Slumber Party Massacre looks like someone sat on it. Ridiculous.

I'd say get Final Exam anyway. Its got a sizable following too. This forum is the only real place I've seen lots of bashing of it from actually.

I really like it, much more than Evilspeak. Witchboard is great. Beast Withing is pretty good too. Imo.

Witchboard is loaded with extras and is a great release. I highly recommend buying that one first. The other two as well as Final Exam are good but not nearly as packed with extras as Witchboard is.

That sucks man. Their packaging is the reason why I've held off purchasing from them directly.

I was actually expecting to hear much more love for "Evilspeak" than "Final Exam", but as of right now I guess it looks like I'm going for "Witchboard", despite all the extras I see that come with it, how is it as far as the film goes?

Is the case for "Slumber Party Massacre" like busted then? It doesn't come with a slip does it?

It's a creepy flick! I loved it and found it entertaining but i wouldn't watch it alone in the dark though Witchboard 2 is okay but not as fun as the original but still worth seeing.

What are the best SF releases, both in terms of film quality as well as special features, from the non-collector's edition releases in your opinion?

In my opinion the best, non-"Collector's Edition" titles are any of the following:

- "TerrorVision"/"The Video Dead"
- "Bad Dreams"/"Visiting Hours"
- "Crawlspace"
- "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" (which also includes a bonus film, "The Evictors" on DVD)

The only other non-CE title I own right now aside from those is "The Horror Show" which some like and some don't. But, if you go for one, the king of the non-CE titles for me is the "TerrorVision"/"The Video Dead" double feature, very great release.

Also, "Shout! Factory" related, but not totally horror related, a really good double feature that features one horror title is the double feature "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" which is an incredible road movie that comes with the horror title "Race with the Devil", I love that release.

Looks like I'm sold on "Witchboard", the site gives the release a very glowing review and you've helped sell me on it, thanks for the input guys.

Get Evilspeak. It's wonderfully ridiculous. Witchboard is dull as dishwater, though like any bad horror flick, it has many fans. Buy a used paperback copy of The Beast Within by Edward Levy; the film has fun effects, but it's a truly terrible movie that lacks a shred of coherency, mostly due to the editing it received by the studio before release.

"Evilspeak" is next on my list after I grab up "Witchboard."

Being Scream Factory and horror fans, we all like at least one Wes Craven movie. I like several. That said, I blind bought one of his TV movies on the advice of my mother who watched it when it premiered on NBC.

Would I like Stranger in Our House (AKA Summer of Fear) starring Linda Blair?

The Craven movies I have liked are:
Swamp Thing
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Deadly Friend
The People Under the Stairs
New Nightmare
Scream
Scream 3

I haven't liked... Cursed and Scream 2&4. I still have to see the rest (which shouldn't be a problem, as I have Red Eye, Shocker, Serpent, and Paris je taime on hold at my local library and Hills 1, Last House, and Deadly Blessing are on Hulu and YouTube).

Considering you enjoy some of his worst efforts in the horror genre ("Deadly Friend", "Scream 3", and "Swamp Thing" along with "People Under the Stairs" although that one is iffy, kinda good/okay.) I'm sure you'll find something to like about it. I find it weird you didn't like "Scream 2" I find that one vastly superior to "Scream 3." "Cursed" is alright if you go in with the lowest of expectations, a lot of people hate it, but I'm a sucker for some werewolf films. "Red Eye" is terrible. "Shocker" is great B-movie level entertainment. "The Serpent and the Rainbow" though is one of my favorite Wes Craven offerings. I didn't mind "Deadly Blessing" either. And obviously, "The Last House on the Left" and "The Hills Have Eyes" are mandatory viewings if you consider yourself to be a fan of Wes Craven at all.

People was okay until a fantastic third act.
Swamp Thing is just great.
Deadly Friend is so fun that I love it. Basketball, Sam jumping out the window to strangle friend guy, etc.
Scream 3 was not good, but it took itself less seriously than 2&4, so that was good. I also liked the whole slasher on the set of a slasher dynamic.

I too love werewolves, but Cursed was pitiful. The main characters didn't even transform. I expected them to experience the curse in a film called Cursed. I forgive it though because of the major production issues.

"Cursed" is essentially exactly what it's title implies. The production was doomed/cursed, they had so many damn problems on that film, and the whole time I was just dying to see this thing and I remember going to the theater for it and being let down. Then I got the unrated DVD and I don't know I think I tried to force myself to like it because I wanted a Wes Craven werewolf film to work so badly, but yeah it's just bad, it's a real shame.

I've never seen Red Eye (I have but only parts), Cursed, or Music of the Heart. That being said, I've yet to see a Wes Craven film that I disliked.

I have even seen My Soul To Take and absolutely love it. I don't get why that movie gets shitted on so much. I think people are taking it a little too seriously, because its a weird, dumb, movie. But not in a bad way (not even in a 'so bad its good' way, either). Its just good and embraces the weirdness.

I really loved these (and others I might be missing):
Shocker
Scream
Quadrilogy
Hills Have Eyes 1 & Part 2 (yes even the original part 2! Lol)
Serpent and the Rainbow
Deadly Friend
Swamp Thing
People Under the Stairs
Deadly Blessing
Last House on the Left
Nightmare on Elm Street
New Nightmare

There are very few, namely his non-horror and tv films, that I haven't seen, but I'd consider him one of my favorite directors and a consistent one at that.
