I don't know how well the DVD's of the show even sold to guess if anyone would take the chance on releasing it on Blu-ray.

There really is no direct comparison, but the closest we have now I'd say is Fearnet (which is sadly shutting down this summer). Chiller has been getting MUCH better as of late though as the fearnet staff/channel is being absorbed by the Chiller network, so its very possible that chiller will start kicking ass soon. Epix Drive-in has some really obscure stuff and is fun, but its only aired in standard definition. Outside of those few sources though, there really isn't much.

Somebody traded/sold a bunch of Scream movies to a local used store recently... most were ones I already had, but today I picked up the Howling... and it had the slipcover and everything for $12 used.

Tales from the Darkside was shot on video, just like Monsters, Friday the 13th, and Freddy's Nightmares. They wouldn't benefit from a format upgrade.

Don't even get me started on the love I have for 80's ninja flicks. Michael Dudikoff, Steve James, and Sho Kosugi were my heroes as a kid. I'm still hoping Shout Factory can eventually bring us some blu rays of Revenge of the Ninja, Pray for Death, American Ninja 1 & 2, and Avenging Force. Although it doesn't seem likely at this point. Shout has stated that sales for Ninja III weren't the greatest. I will never understand why they chose one of the weaker entries of the 80's ninja era as a gauge for future genre releases.

Avenging Force seems likely to be coming from Kino and/or Scorpion Releasing later this year.

I am sad to hear that FearNet is going. I watched that channel all the time. Though I am glad that Chiller is getting better. I never really watched epix, except when it had that free month and it did have some obscure stufdf on it.
Do you know if the FearNet website is going too? I don't know whats happened to SciFi it sometimes had some good stuff on it, but now it shows stupid reality shows and same movies over and over again.

IMDB says it was shot on 35mm. But I don't know much at all about the stuff.

Tales from the Crypt was. If Darkside was (and if it was shot on film, I'd say 16mm), the film footage has likely been junked at this point. It was definitely edited on tape, so there would be no need to save it.

When you guys/girls are talking about prepaid cards, I take it you mean Gift Certificates?

I think they mean a Visa Giftcard. It works just like a debit card except you load it, spend it, then trash it. Then repeat.

Each of those shows was shot on film. They were just edited to videotape, just like Star Trek: The Next Generation was. If the original film elements still exist, I'm sure they would be a revelation compared to the murky broadcast tapes still in syndication. Friday the 13th: The Series looks horrible on Chiller.

Yep. Mastercard has them too but I've only ever used Visa.

Right on. I'll have to find where to buy those using cash then. Well this will definitely help me from putting too many movies on my damn credit card.

If you're in the US literally everyone has them. Wal-mart, Target, Walgreen's, Gas stations, etc. They're called Vanilla Visa gift cards and are usually near checkout stands.

USA Prince of Darkness

So what do you all think about John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness? I watched a long time ago(over 20 years) and found it boring. Well I bought the Scream release and watched it and found it creepy now. I still like the blood and gore movies, but now I like themore subtle ones too....

I had completely missed this originally in the theater and somehow never saw it on late night TV either. I frankly first heard of it when people in this thread were talking about it as a Scream release.

I was able to catch it on one of the premium channels, and then subsequently put in a pre-order for it and got it when it came out.

I thought it was a surprisingly good movie actually, the only thing... after it ended I had this nagging feeling like there was more to the story than they actually developed. Like Carpenter actually had an idea so good that he didn't know what to do with it and left some of it on the table.

This is a movie I wouldn't mind seeing Carpenter remake IF it meant he could explore some more of it in depth. It just felt like a movie that had more to it than they could fit in the allocated time. Maybe a made-for-TV mini-series or something over 2-3 nights might do the trick?
