What's the difference in sending Eli Roth movies and the multtude of press that get the word out about their product via screeners? This is the same principle it was for press.

In regards to working with other studios, all I'll say is WB and Lionsgate must not want to make money on some of the cult titles by sub-licensing. Hopefully Nightbreed is a foot in the door for other titles from WB, perhaps on a limited basis but open up to movies and television series. I'd love to see Lionsgate get off their high horse and do the same. Like....start with a simple title "Screamers (1995)" and see how things go....

As far as Eli Roth goes, debate his movies all you want. Like them, love them or hate them....you get a reaction from them one way or another. He has talent, and I think given the right circumstances he could make some genuinely amazing movies as a director. This Green Inferno movie may or may not do the trick. Did I like Hostel movies? Not a one, but they were well made and directed....just not my kind of movie. Cabin Fever? I liked it, but didn't love it....but damn, that was well made too. Thanksgiving Day trailer for Grindhouse....Would love to see that movie.....

Yeah, people generally suck. lol This seems like a case of, I'm jealous, give me free movies instead. wah wah wah

I wonder if they would have a fit if they knew about the 'gift bags' celebs get at award shows and such. Solution: Get famous and get your own free stuff.

I expected those horrid comments about Eli to spread to these forums, but instead (thankfully) they stayed on Screams page, not saying thats a good thing , in fact it really disgusted me to see people react like that.
Worse - they dont have user IDs, they use their own name and pictures and make troll comments. I wouldn't friend any of them on Facebook knowing who they are. It was a terrible and unnecessary situation. It made me ashamed of the human race quite frankly - have we as a society forgotten how to be nice to people ?
Hopefully people can move on from that. It was just a terrible thing..
And they were not free movies in the traditional sense of the word- he was given those blu rays as a token of appreciation from SF for doing commentaries. Eli did not ask for a single penny for doing it. They paid/thanked him by giving him some movies, he earned them..he loves horror films too

I'd just question why Eli, being such a big horror fan, doesn't have most of these already, especially the ones he professes to particularly like.

People get so angry over a bunch of plastic ... criterion does this too, ok they don't take a picture, the film it instead and upload it on YouTube.

I don't particularity like Roth, but i couldn't care less tbh.

Perhaps. If that were the case, Scream might want to mention it, as it would give some of those complaining on Facebook food for thought.

Didn't even realize they'd posted it so I wandered back to Facebook to take a look-see.

I think it's cute; he looks like a kid on Christmas morning! Love him or hate him, Eli Roth is still a very grounded, humble and human film-maker.

People are acting like this is a payment and if it were (and it's not) wouldn't someone rather get cash? In this case, Eli Roth got a gift (and that's what it is) that he would definitely appreciate. He loves this genre just as much as the rest of us.

All I'm reading from the venom is "Me, me, me. Mine, mine, mine. Self-entitlement, self-entitlement, self-entitlement." Well, that and all the Eli Roth-bashing which is just as unwarranted.

Ive gotten to the point where I dont think Scream owes any of those people any further explanations or really care what those complainers think really. The whole thing was completely out of hand and even Jeff commented on how disappointed he was with the backlash
Some of those people in the SF fanpage showed their true colors behind their computer and it made one of my friends (who works at a DVD label) so disenchanted he might leave Facebook
People need to get lives and not go apesh*t about a photo of Eli Roth holding blu rays. I think moving on is the best solution at this point

I apparently missed all of the Eli Roth drama, though I did see the picture when it was initially posted. I thought it was hilarious. So people complained?

This is why I have no social life, apparently. People just plain confuse me.

Do people on Criterion's Facebook criticize the directors/actors pictured raiding the 'Criterion Closet'?

I think it's funny that Scream valiantly defends giving away some movies to Eli Roth, yet typically shies away from Facebook complaints about issues that plague the actual discs.

Who cares that he got some free swag? Not anyone with a brain.

Youre right who cares about the photo and the gratutity he was given for his service

They dont shy away, the film elements come from the studios they license from. Sometimes they do some restoration, sometimes they dont. Cliff and or Jeff have often made statements about this.

I think a lot of complaints about their film transfers are down to poor compression rather than the state of the elements provided to them. Can't remember where I saw it, but someone did a comparison between the DVD & Blu-ray of Dark Angel & it was clear the compression on the Blu-ray was smudging the grain. This would explain the complaints about the use of DNR, which Scream have denied using; for instance Scream's release of Halloween II looks like it has DNR applied which wasn't present on the Universal Blu-ray.

I appreciate the efforts Scream Factory got to when releasing these films on Blu-ray, but I wish they would acknowledge & address these problems.

Arrow Video here in the UK listened to complaints & now produce some fantastic restorations & also produce encodes from transfers provided by the studios, that surpass the studios own releases (Big Trouble in Little China comes to mind in that case).

They blame image issues on the elements they're given (which begs the question of why exactly they feel discs like Cat People are worth what they're asking), but they never address the compression artifacts. Case in point, Nosferatu. It's a pretty lousy transfer made worse by lousy compression and macroblocks. Their response? "It's Herzog approved!" They've made it perfectly clear that they are not open to any sort of criticism.

That guy's post actually shows another problem with our world...people buying frivolous things when they have real life problems they should be allocating their resources to. I can't have much sympathy for someone that can't afford enough food but chooses to buy a movie instead.

Exactly. I'm also tired of this crying and whining from people that hate on successful people in the world. So, because they actually achieved in life, you think they owe you something, simply because it's "not fair"?? Get off your ass and actually take risks to do something that can make you successful one day.
