Nostalgia probably plays a good part in our preferences.

Personally, though my favorite decade for horror is the 1970s, I quite enjoy new horror, and I think the development of the genre after 2000 has been very interesting - not at least when compared to the meagre 1990s, which IMO was one of the worst, if not THE worst, decade for horror (which is not to say there weren't any good movies at all).

I find the so-called torture porn rather fascinating because it is probably the most political infused trend since the 1970s. And ghost movies are my favorite sub-genre, so I have been very happy to see them return in big style the last few years, though the whole found-footage thing has gotten tiresome by now.
(digging up old post)

my biggest complaint with "modern horror" is excessive use of CG blood/gore. no one wants to take the time to pull off a more convincing practical effect (refer to ozombie, could have been decent, but all the cg blood killed it. refer to the new texas chainsaw... the cg blood in that kind of annoyed me too. especially the money shot at the end in the factory). Thats my biggest complaint with modern horror. if more modern horror would utilize pig guts from slaughter houses, gallons of red karo syrup, blast packs on backs of heads, and a high amount of latex appliances, i would enjoy the genre more today.

If youre wondering why the bottom corner of my Curtains is missing, its because I was out of town and my dog got to my package. Ate up the corner. Had an extra bluray case so I switched it but unfortunately the insert is crappy now.

I love the new artwork for Ginger Snaps. I'm usually like 50/50 on Scream Factory covers compared to the original theatrical poster, but for Ginger Snaps it isn't even close.

That sucks about Curtains. I'm OCD with that stuff. I can't stand it when the cover art gets ruined even if it is just a little wrinkle. Here's hoping you aren't like me!

I don't write User Reviews for all of the Blu-rays that I watch, but I decided that Without Warning could use some review love.

My User Review of Without Warning.

Nice review. I think you've officially sold me on this. Now to just try and get it for a price that I like

I wish SF gets rights to release the rest of Amityville series to blu ray to tie in with January's new Amityville theatrical release.

Your dog gets your mail while you're out of town? That's pretty badass! All kidding aside, that sucks!

Whoops I actually just realized I posted this in the wrong thread haha. Was meant for the Latest Haul thread. Well at least its got some Scream Factory titles there.

I am like you with the OCD. Its bothering the hell out of me. When its on my shelf it just looks like crap now since a chunk of the spine is gone.

So first the dog eats it, and now the retailer has to as well?

Doesn't seem right to me.

Making somebody pay for something that isn't their fault is theft.

Oh please.

If they'd package it to ship better then it wouldn't have been so easily penetrated.

All packaging must be dog-proof, or it's the retailer's fault?

Even if they could, would anyone actually buy them? I'm not trying to be mean here, but I can't imagine there is a high demand for Amityville's 4-8 to make it to Blu, be it separately or in a collection.

I've admittedly never seen them, which is something I will be rectifying this fall......probably more to my detriment than anything.

Regardless, my point is you could blame the dog, the owner, or the store just as easilly as you could blame ups! Acting self-reighteous and holier-than-thou over returning a damaged product is ridiculous. Just because one person wouldn't exchange the item, doesn't mean someone who does is a theif. And quite frankly, big corporations steal all the time, so $20-$30 bucks in the grand scheme of the universe is nothing at all.

They're all with Lionsgate (with the exception of 4). Some are okay, but the only one even remotely close to being "good" is 4 imo.

Yeah, the package was totally asking for it!

This is just a variation of the classic, "It's not stealing if it's a corporation, 'cause they have tons of money and won't notice." That particular "justification" of theft is frankly older than the internet. But the BS quotient on it has not changed.

I'm looking forward to watching Without Warning tonight, I'm not expecting a great movie, just an entertaining one and from what I have been reading that is what I will get.

Yeah I wont be trying to return it. Its not the shippers fault that the package was in a place where the dog could get it. Is it my roommates fault?.... Possibly haha. Its just a lesson learned for me. My dog has suddenly developed the taste for blurays....so I just have to be more cautious. In the grand scheme of things, its not the end of the world. The disc was fine. Life will go on.

Maybe you could e-mail Synapse and see if they could send you a new cover? Worse they could say is no.
