One of my wal-marts had this on sale for 5.88 this past weekend in a new endcap display. YMMV.

Same transfer, superior encode/bitrate. A Scream release would have the same transfer but likely a worse encode. The Arrow disc ports the pre-existing extras, adds over 90 minutes of new ones, and is packaged in a beautiful steelbook. No reason for anyone to pine/hold out for a Scream edition.

Well only a small percentage of the population is region-free. I think Big Trouble would probably move a LOT of units for Shout, so it totally makes sense business-wise

What's sad is that I'm guessing 99% of Panasonic owners don't even know that they're effectively region-free already.

I agree. I'm sure it's a title they've inquired about.

BTILC will be a great Scream Factory Collector's Edition.

I don't care about Arrow or any other regions companies and enough talking about other regions discs in the North American section. A few times I seen something posted it's just disappointing that it's not an A release.

The current release of BTILC is fine. I'd rather see Scream concentrate on something that hasn't received a Blu-ray release.

I agree.

It makes absolutely no sense for Scream to waste even more resources with yet another re-release of an existing title.

BTILC has been available on a nice Blu-ray for 5 years and it sells for under $10.00. Everybody who wants it already has it. The sales potential for that title is completely exhausted except among the .1% fringe of BD buyers who think slip covers and reversible art are important.

Don't waste our time with Blu-rays we already have.

I would rather see Shout/Scream try to acquire DARK STAR than BTILC. The VCI blu-ray is out of print.

So have Mad Max and Escape From New York. Clearly there is money to be made re-releasing AAA cult titles, otherwise Shout wouldn't be doing it. As far as wasting time, they put out 40-50 titles a year. Output ain't a problem.

Plenty of other people here have Panasonic and/or region-free players. As long as labels are releasing superior editions (or editions, period) of horror films being suggested as potential Scream releases, they will be brought up and discussed. If, for whatever reason, you are unable or unwilling to look beyond the limited options offered by a small handful of US companies, that is simply your loss.

My most wanted scream factory blu-rays are The Thing, Texas Chainsaw Massacre II, An American Werewolf in London, Dawn of the Dead and Hellraiser III

Sorry, when you said "through Scream", I thought you meant "up to Scream" the film, not form the studio named Scream.

Why do you think it needs a new release when you won't even buy the current (and excellent) release?

I could see it happening through Warner Archive. Or even Twilight Time (based on their Heaven & Earth release).

I can easily see a Mill Creek release for this. That's not what everyone wants, of course, but it's better than nothing.

One which needs no new release, and the other which needs a new transfer that Universal will likely not allow (and that Scream doesn't really want to pay for).

If Universal were to allow it (unlikely), I think Scream recognizes there has been a lot of requests for a new transfer and I think they would shell out the cash to do it.

I bet if anything , they would announce the Thing or Big Trouble at a comic con convention because of the *name* value.. next July, just watch

Mad Max is an obvious tie-in to the upcoming 4th film but EFNY really needs a better release (better being the key word here). All the extras in the world and reimagined slipcover art won't be enough of an incentive to buy yet another edition of this film, at least for me. This has to have a fresh remaster. Everyone's going to jump on me and say "what's wrong with the current transfer" - I feel there's plenty of room for improvement.

Don't get me wrong. Scream is more than willing to pay for new transfers. But they only seem to do it for films where they have exclusive blu-ray rights. I don't see them shelling out big bucks just so their "The Thing" blu-ray can sit on the shelf next to Universal's selling for $10.

Now, if they could convince Universal to put their "The Thing" disc OOP beforehand, maybe I could see it happening.
