I've always been in the camp of "I'm not denying the issues, I just don't have the eye/brain to actually see them." I'll just count myself lucky in that regard (ignorance is bliss?)
It is a shame that this argument has basically overtaken this thread over the last few months. And I love the caps-a-holic comments calling us "psychopaths." Some people take this stuff (BDs) waaaay too seriously. Last edited by jthefrank; 09-12-2014 at 04:50 PM. |

I appreciate both sides of the spectrum. The people that are super pumped on all the releases and give all the info they find, almost immediately and also the people that critique Shout on their flaws. If compression issues are something that people on here can do a better job then Shout can do, then something needs to be brought up. No need to get offensive, it may help for the long term ![]() |

If there are a few minor imperfections, I deal, IF I even notice. People like these complainers are the reason companies like Code Red 7 Scorpion can't sell merchandise. And when they do release a "perfect" disc, it's $30 or more. Last edited by JMDiaz718; 09-12-2014 at 07:56 PM. Reason: add text. |

I'd love to hear how you arrived at that conclusion. I have almost every Blu that CR and Scorpion have released and they're generally better than Scream Factory. Especially Scorpion's titles. Watching a SF disc and realizing there's compression isn't hard for some people to notice. It's perfectly fine if you don't, or if it doesn't bother you. But don't stick your head in the sand and make smug accusations/conclusions about the people who do complain. These issues are real and ongoing. |

I bought The Amityville Horror Trilogy at Movie Stop tonight.
I paid too much for this set ($52.99), but the online prices are not much better, and I've really been in the mood to revisit the first two movies lately. The first movie scared me to death when I was in fourth grade, but I loved it so much even then that I bought the Jay Anson paperback book shortly after, and read that book over and over again for months. I revisited the movie about a decade ago and found that, although it had lost some of its luster from my childhood nostalgia, it was still an eerily effective flick. I've never seen the third movie before. I'm not expecting a lot from it, frankly, but these 1980s horror films that I approach with zero expectations are often pleasant surprises. We'll see. The folks at Movie Stop really did a number on the slipbox for this collection with their spider-wrap, but I was able to reverse the damage for the most part by reshaping the box when I got home. I didn't buy this set for the slipbox, though. |

Here's an example. When Universal announced Uncle Buck, it was noticed that it would only be including a lossy audio track. There were a few complaints, but I remember seeing a large number of people in that thread respond with, "Who cares? It's Uncle Buck." The relative indifference by the majority let Universal know that this practice was OK. Shortly after, The Blues Brothers was announced, also only with lossy audio. Naturally, the same people whom didn't care when Uncle Buck had to do without were up in arms when another movie they loved was affected. It's possible that if more people spoke up about it when UB was first announced, Universal might have gotten the hint earlier and given The Blues Brothers a lossless audio track. The point is, these labels are a business, and will try to cut whatever corners they can to keep the production costs as low as possible. As consumers, we need to make sure they know which corners shouldn't be cut. As much as you may not believe it, I'm not anti-Shout/Scream Factory at all. You can take a look at my collection here and see the large number of their Blu-Rays I own. You can also check out my Film Aficionado account in my sig and see the number of their DVDs I own as well. I just want to see these films get the best release possible. We know there's room for improvement with what's been given, based on what we've seen from other labels, using the same materials SF has been given, and it's frustrating to see SF flat out ignore it for as long as it has. Even if you're completely satisfied with their products, I don't see why you would get upset at those whom are pushing for them to do better, since if SF were to take those comments to heart, it would result in better releases for you to enjoy. |

Many people don't care? Maybe. but many of us do. Many of us only care about certain Scream discs. If you post about Halloween 2 should I tell you to shove off and go make your own thread because I've never cared for Halloween 2, and you're shoving your Halloween 2 talk down our throats? Scream Factory discs often have compression issues. These issues concern many of us and we have just as much reason and right to discuss that here as anyone else has to discuss anything else about Scream discs. You know what might be less appropriate for this thread? Comments like: Quote:

The only reason you say it belongs here is because it would not belong on Scream Factorys page of Facebook..and you have nowhere else to try and manipulate fans because it wouldn't be allowed there. There must be a technical thread on this forum where you and those many can whine about compression issues and leave collectors and fans who don't care alone. I know Im not alone on this but I did notice other members who liked my comment. They are the ones who aren't interested in the endless nauseating pages of Scream Factory compression and would simply rather discuss the upcoming Halloween set, future title announcements and the like. If you would like to continue quoting me and keep this up, Im sure other members will appreciate the efforts made to make this thread even more disruptive. |
