"Scanners" would've been better. But the rights are probably with MGM still, because they didn't want to give it up -or with Dimension, because they bought the rights to produce a remake of the original, then the project died.

I'm soo excited for "Scanners 2" and "Scanners 3"! They're not the best movies ever, but I'm buying them on BD asap! And maybe we can hold out for "Scanners" coming from another company, or hope that Cliff was just holding that title back till Nov. 16th!!

Sorry but I really don't want an MGM blu of Scanners. Some movies deserve extra special attention and I think Scanners is one of them. MGM will just use whatever master is lying around and that's unacceptable.

Maybe Criterion will get Scanners. You never know. It wouldn't be the 1st MGM or Cronenberg for them. I'm looking forward to Scanners II & III, I've never seen any of the Scanner's sequels. Who did Scream Factory get the rights from? According to dvdaf.com Scanners II was with 20th Century Fox & III was with Republic. I don't know how accurate dvdaf is, but if thats true that opens the doors for some more titles like The Devil's Daughter and possibly Scanners IV & V (Scanner Cop).

Scanners 2 and 3? *checks wallet* I think I can make room for those...oddly though, I didn't know there was a fourth and fifth entry.... maybe Scream will look at those if these do good business...

While it is sad that they didn't get the rights of the first one, the second and third one are quite good and entertaining in their own right. I'm happy and surprised, when they announced two movies from 90's that had never been released before I was expecting something really crappy.

Yeah, I kind of think he's just holding the first one as one of those "big" titles that will be announced.... or at least I hope so.

I would have never guessed these but I certainly welcome them. I never took the time to sit down and watch these so Scream Factory giving them a release is pretty awesome.

Huh, if Shout couldn't get Scanners, that doesn't bode well for something like The Fog. Kind of a bummer of an announcement, to be honest.

I don't see how it affects in any way a release of The Fog. Scanners was always a long shot, Dimension was gonna do a remake, so they purchased the rights then dropped the project a year later. While with The Fog, MGM still has the rights.

Kind of a bummer. None of the Scanners sequels interest me at all. Too bad they couldn't get the original.

Smell another double feature for these two, unless of course this is a Rope-a-dope for the big announcement of the trilogy.

I doubt it, considering they already said they couldn't get the first film. I don't see Scream Factory as the type of niche label to try to sucker their fans into something like that. Just doesn't seem like their M.O.

Is it a fact, that MGM no longer has the rights to Scanners? Or did they (MGM) pass on letting Shout grab it, because they want to release it themselves?

This announcement does nothing for me. I've had 2 and 3 in the AB UK box set for ages, and they're not particularly good anyway.

Well i dont think it would be a mean trick considering the other two wont be out until mid to late next year. It would be crappy if they sold them individually then announced a 3 film collection like the major studios do frequently.

Plus they have some big news coming in a couple weeks, just wishful thinking.
