Here's another possibility for you conspiracy theorists out there (): it's another one of Criterion's cute little "hints". This one is just more obvious

In all seriousness, a Criterion Cronenberg box set would be awesome, esp. one containing Scanners.

August 16 is the date when this pic was posted on Criterion FB wall

For my money,if this pic has any deeper meaning i'd say that Cronenberg and CC are working on the Naked Lunch upgrade.Other possibilites : Crash or Spider.

But yeah, Criterion or Anchor Bay are perfect candidates.

I'm surprised Scream is releasing Scanners III since that's in the Republic library, currently owned by Olive.
Paramount owns the Republic library. Olive licensed the films from Paramount.

Cliff, What are the chances of seeing "Lifeforce" and "Pumpkinhead" on blu-ray from Scream Factory?
I'm a desperate fan of these movies.

That's not true. Somerville house owns Rabid and Lionsgate has Shivers. Scanners and The Brood are owned by the producer and were licensed out to a label.

So does that mean that The Brood, isn't part of the MGM deal then?

Any possibility on seeing THE SENDER (1982) as a blu-ray release?:

Huh. I just thought all this time someone else bought the rights. Money is definitely on Anchor Bay because it's alot like Phantasm I and IV; once belonged to MGM but then went to Don Coscarelli and given to Anchor Bay.

Cliff regarding the Scanners series:

-If III is owned by Paramount what does that mean; did you manage to sub-licensed one more title out of them?

-I doubt porting extras from the upcoming UK trilogy set from Second Sight Films are out of the question, but what about porting extras from the UK Anchor Bay releases for Scanners II and III?

-What of Scanner Cop and Scanners: The Showdown (Scanner Cop 2)?

Not entirely. Last october Criterion tweeted this old publicity picture of Cronenberg:

This could of course mean nothing more than 'Cronenberg is cool and we here at Criterion dig him'. But it could also mean, and was thought to mean by many, that Criterion are working on releasing the older Cronenberg titles in the picture.

Sweet Jesus let it be true. I'd kill for criterions a of Cronenberg's early work, even not having seen Shivers/They Came From Within! It's be nice to see the Fly and Dead Ringers from criterion too...

They just licensed Badlands (and possibly few other titles) from WB.

Cliff,i just heard that Shout! obtained the DVD rights to Beetlejuice animated series;which is i believe owned by Warner.Could that mean that Scream will also be able to license some horrors titles from WB?Such as The Changeling (owned by HBO,which is,again, owned by Time Warner,so..),Salem's Lot,etc...?

Yes Badlands...can't wait! I don't spend enough time on the criterion threads either, do you know when they announce there new upcoming releases Akijama?
Is it monthly on a specific date or something? I hope Badlands is part of their next announcement.

They usually announce new titles on the 15th of the month, unless that falls on a weekend, and then it's following Monday. They said Badlands is early 2013 title.

I hope so. Add Return of the Living Dead II to the list.
