I still buy DVDs but I won't rush out to buy them like I would a new Blu. I'll either wait until they are $10 new or $5 used. Definitely not paying $15 for a DVD.
Apparently many have been saying that The Horror Show has an HD transfer as it has been playing on some HD channel, so there's no reason that this shouldn't get a Bluray. Just because the titles are announced together doesn't necessarily mean they are being released together either, although that has so far been the case. Hopefully The horrorShow at least gets a Bluray release, and Vagrant can be released with another film as a double feature on DVD. Although I would prefer for everything to be released on Bluray these days. Lets be honest, the people buying these films want them on Bluray. I seriously doubt they are going to be bought up by the average joe at BB or Walmart, unless they are in the $5 bin. Also, anyone know if the boxset that is hitting next Fall will be announced this Fri.? I would love to see a price boxset! I hope they announce, The Fog The Howling Prince of Darkness Vincent Price boxset (I'd be fine with the titles in the MGM Scream Legends Collection) The Burning Lifeforce Dolls Tales from the Crypt / Vault of Horror |

I'd be surprised if Scream did the Vincent Price films, given that they said they're mostly concentrating on films from the 70s and 80s. Now I know Price did a number of films in the early 70s, but nonetheless I think they've set their mandate for the slightly later period. Still, they have announced The Vampire Lovers, so who knows?

Speaking of DVD only... wasn't The Island and Death Valley originally DVD only? I know I wanted both titles however, I was NEVER going to buy DVDs of either title. It was BLU or no sale. and I realize it takes money etc to do these blu releases but I won't be buying any DVD only releases at all. BLU or no sale.
So they may believe something that is DVD only is a bad seller when I think others will pass over the release all together since we want HD. the only titles I purchase on DVD still yet are TV shows, esp those older ones that were shot on tape. and I am dying to buy the Shout releases for Beetlejuice the animated series. I make exceptions but for movies I won't do DVD any longer. |

Im sorry but Im in the group that thinks "blu ray or no sale" is total rubbish and stubborn. If you like a movie enough to own it, then get it and support the company that is releasing it no matter what format. Some movies will never be HD for one reason or another. I would never pass on a movie I wanted because it wasnt Blu Ray. If it cant be HD, then I am good with SD.
I dont see anyone else releasing Vargrant or the Evictors or even trying to. I only see MOD titles from some studios. That being said Im so glad SF is releasing the Incredible Melting Man and will be a HUGE upgrade or the MOD... |

Also I would almost prefer a high quality DVD then a mediocre blu-ray(or at least be content with the DVD I already own)...The Re-animator comes to mind
![]() And not that the Re-animator looks bad on blu-ray but when you are upgrading a title you especially want to see a more noticeable difference. Last edited by RiFiFi1955; 11-09-2012 at 08:42 PM. |

The reason they are only calling these "First time on DVD!" is because they can't promise a Blu-ray if they haven't gotten ahold of the film prints yet.
Imagine the backlash if they settled for a DVD instead because of a BD release. Some would understand, but a lot of these same whiny folks would cry out "BUT YOU PROMISED A BLU-RAY!" Just wait it out. |

No, stances like yours will kill the companies releasing titles that you wanted but refuse to because its not SD. Some movies masters will not look good in HD and some movies will not bring in the $$$ back that it cost to put the movie in HD.
We need to support these companies or they will go belly up...and then you wont get any genre titles like The Horror Show or The Video Dead for the first time on DVD or a movie like the Vampire Lovers or the Nest or the Incredible Melting Man which will be the first time in HD. What we buy now will help these companies in the years to come, as long as they release titles that we want and will purchase Predication -I think that The Horror Show will be HD...Id say the chances are over 50%. And there are so many movies that looks great in SD in their OAR..I think of Code Red's GhostKeeper, Horror High or Nightmare...or House on Sorority Row from Scorpion. The stubborness of refusing to buy something will ruin the DVD economy..and I will take something in SD if it means having more cool releases in the future. |

Personally, I think even if its not crystal clear HD, just call it a BD and we'll all be happy. Many BDs look like upscaled dvds, so why not just make money off them while you can. |

To each their own on the issue of "Blu-ray or no sale" but personally if a niche label is willing to put out obscure films or television shows that I really appreciate, they will get my business regardless of the format. Of course, I'd love to see all my films and television shows on Blu-ray but I'm very realistic and realize that won't ever happen. It's important for us as genre film lovers to support releases like this because of the care and passion behind them.

The DVD economy is already on life support - none of the major studios have released (to my knowledge) a single new pressed catalog title on DVD for at least two years, and there's no reason to expect that to change. It's only the indie companies like Shout, Scorpion Releasing, Arrow, BFI, MoC that still do the occasional non-DVDR catalog titles. I believe there was a recent Universal Vault box that was pressed DVD, but that's probably it.

I've gone blu ray only generally. The only time I'll buy a DVD, is if it IS from a company like Shout or Arrow, or if there's no blu ray upgrade foreseeable in the long run, like the Slumber Party Massacre set. I'll quite enjoy getting these, especially if they're in sets, as long as the PQ isn't affected, as that way they're cheaper. I'm thrilled that their Terrorvision and Video Dead is a double feature, and their cheapest preorder yet. |
