I don't recall hearing anything to that effect.

Really looking forward to seeing hi-def copies of:

King Kong 76
Prophecy 79
Dragonslayer
The Big Bus
The Brady Bunch movies
Addams Family Values
Maybe Star Trek The Motion Picture Director's Cut.
Bug
Foul Play
It Came From Hollywood
I Married A Monster From Outer Space
Pet Sematary Two
Stuart Saves His Family
The Relic (a better looking version than the Lionsgate edition)
Private Parts
Brain Candy
Didn't hear anything about that

What's wrong with the Lionsgate release of RELIC? It looks and sounds great. I would love to see PROPHECY (79) and BUG on blu though.

Finally had the money to get Pumpkinhead and Tales From the Crypt/Vault of Horror. Just need to get Vincent Price Col. II and then Lord of Illusions when that's released and I think I will have all the SF films I wanted. Shame about Dog Soldiers as well as the transfer for Ravenous, would have liked to have added those to my collection.

Which is the company that was supposedly releasing some Paramount titles? I thought it was SHOUT/SCREAM.

Personally, I think the Lionsgate edition of The Relic looks way too muddy. It was always a dark movie, but it was always easy to see in the darkest scenes. Even the creature looks washed out in some scenes.

The worst part, the scene where the creature walks up the steps in the lab, at the climax. In theaters, you saw a lot more detail and texture, in it's skin and muscle structure. It was the first time you actually saw it entirely in some what bright light. It looked bad on VHS, it just looks ok on bluray.

You might be thinking of Olive Films. Their deal with Paramount is rumored to be over, though. Warner Brothers is the primary distributor for Paramount's back catalog.

So, "Escape From New York" is set in stone? Because I'm dying to sell off the final special edition DVD MGM released with the commentary and special features, and my currently flipper disc blu-ray as well. BUT, if history has taught us anything it's to wait and see if it all gets ported over before we sell. So, they can announce the specifications any day now.

By the way, Tobe Hooper's "Salem's Lot" is more style over substance. It's great yeah BY TELEVISION standards in the late 70's! Don't get me wrong, I bought the DVD when they started producing the non-flipper versions (come on, "IT."), but boy does it drag and there are just plain boring scenes. However, they are some good creepy stuff and the atmosphere they captured is beautiful. I'd buy it again if they did a blu-ray with special features, but it's not the masterpiece people are making it out to be.

Just posted.

Scarecrows is going stand alone while Destroyer is going to be paired up with something else. So those people upset about that should be made happy.

We can now report that the planned street date is 4/21.

As you know, we LOVE Carpenter films and we're attempting to pull out all the stops on this classic. We can tell you that the current plan is to make it a 2-disc blu-ray set. Full specs (listing new and existing extras) will be announced sometime in February. Pre-order links - and finished artwork - will go up sometime in early Jan so be on the lookout!

New extras are all well and good (I'm hoping an isolated score is among them), but how about a new 2k transfer? To me, that would justify a double-dip far more than just taking the pre-existing release(s) and adding a couple of brief talking-head interviews.

Not sure how I feel about Warner being in charge. They love to release catalog titles on DVD, and worse, DVD-R copies at full price!!

Woot!

Now that means I don't have to watch Destroyer (which I found on YouTube)

I know there was some debate over the color timing of the existing master, but I'm not aware of any issues with it that would require the creation of a brand new 2K master. It's far more likely, IMO, that they'll bring in Dean Cundey to oversee a color correction of the film.

I think some folks were talking about the OTA version on MGMHD, and how it was a little brighter.
I'd be tickled if Dean Cundey could be on-hand to oversee any work being done. I'm thinking Scream must have him on speed dial at this point.

Would really like to see them release The Hidden, Screamers, Bad Moon, John Carpenter's Vampires, and Silver Bullet.

Someone asked about the EFNY transfer in a post separate to SF's announcement and this was SF's reply:

No official word yet but we are working on making this release of NY the most definitive one yet!

I'd say that's a pretty good sign that they'll work their asses off on this release and a new transfer might be in the offing.

"Working on making this release of NY the most definitive one yet" most likely means new extras. A new transfer is doubtful.
