I thought the DVD of CHUD was just the scenes put back in the original order. Although I might not be remembering right since I think I heard it back when the DVD originally came out.

The only one not seen before I do remember was the slightly different shower scene in the Easter egg.

This is at least partially correct.
I'm not sure if there was added footage but one scene was definitely re-arranged because on its original theatrical run the producers had taken the scene in the middle where
[Show spoiler]the CHUDs attack the diner and put it at the very end to make it seem like one of those "oh no! Theyre still here!" comical endings.

Sounds like a ridiculous idea considering thats a really big turning point in the plot.
I'll take the directors cut, thanks.

Obviously they're no going Criterion on us, but considering how consistently bare their extras cupboard used to be, I'd say they've made significant strides.
Well, like I said, I might have been wrong. And I was.

I'm glad that Kino is changing their ways because I have a couple of older Kino releases that did feature some good special features. It seemed like they then started doing bare bones or near bare bones releases, but now they're turning around again.

In their early-mid DVD days, they would invariably be bare-bones releases, often improper PAL-to-NTSC conversions, and with awful cover art to boot. MoC used to consistently and emphatically wipe the floor with them in A/V quality, extras, and art, which is what makes their relative turnaround all the more pleasant to see. (In fact, my decision to go region-free back in 2005 or so was entirely due to the glaring MoC/Kino disparity!) They still have occasion missteps, like the 'restoration' of White Zombie and a few sync issues, but overall they've been pretty solid the last couple of years, certainly in comparison to the sub-par work they turned out prior.

Agreed. Shocked we still haven't gotten so many great catalog titles on blu from them.

Come on Paramount, bring on Dragonslayer, King Kong & Prophecy!!! Or give them to someone that WILL release them.

I have been hoping that VinSyn could get a good scan of Boggy Creek and at least issue a Gratis Download of a 2K scan at least

I got rid of my DVD copy of Slaughter Hotel having only watched about 45 minutes. Part of the reason was that I didn't really get into the film but also it happened at a time when I was purging some of my collection. I'm thinking maybe I might enjoy the film more if it were on Blu-ray so I'll give it another shot.

There are at least four extended opportunities to buy Criterions for $20 or less every year, as well as multiple major sales at Amazon, including one right now, so let's not quote the $40 list-price as if anyone actually pays it.

I've literally never paided more than 20 bucks for a 40 dollar Criterion.

Neither have I. Just dumb you have to wait for a sale at Barnes & Noble, to pay $20. You'd think they'd want a large amount of pre-orders.

I just received Macbeth a few weeks back, for $20. Paid $20 for The Blob, A Night to Remember & Godzilla, a few years ago.

I also own Scanners, HATE the cover and packaging.

Hopefully, they do The Brood justice.

At least you have that option. If you want a Twilight Time title there's no chance of getting it for less than $35.

There are a few more opportunities though. Typically Criterion has their own half off sale in February and September, and Amazon/Best Buy have sales in like June. There are spots every couple months.
