Shout! Factory to Distribute Giallo-Inspired Horror Comedy ‘The Editor’ (Exclusive)

Quote:
Shout! Factory has struck a deal with Kennedy/Brooks to distribute the giallo-inspired horror comedy “The Editor” in the U.S., TheWrap has learned.

Directed and produced by Adam Brooks and Matthew Kennedy, the stylish genre movie premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to play at the San Francisco International Film Festival on May 1.

Brooks and “Boardwalk Empire’s” Paz de la Huerta star alongside Samantha Hill (“Bad Meat”), Tristan Risk (“Dark Continents”) and “The ABCs of Death 2” actors Laurence R. Harvey and Conor Sweeney, as well as genre stalwart Udo Kier (“Blade”) and Kennedy.

Shout! Factory has secured exclusive U.S. distribution rights to “The Editor,” including broadcast, digital, home entertainment and theatrical for cross-platform releases. Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout for the film on a variety of entertainment distribution platforms and in all packaged media through Shout’s genre label and horror entertainment brand, Scream Factory.

“‘The Editor’ is catnip to horror film geeks and film geeks in general,” said Shout’s associate VP of acquisitions Jordan Fields. “It’s a superbly crafted, maniacal blend of comedy and horror, where the satire is both broad enough to include the casual fan and precise enough to reward the hardcore fan. There’s a reason Astron-6 has such a rabid following, and we’ll do our best to make sure ‘The Editor’ finds the massive audience it deserves.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Shout Factory for the release of ‘The Editor.’ Shout has re-released many of the genre classics that have inspired our work, and they continue to give new and intriguing genre films, like ‘The Babadook’ (Shout had home entertainment rights) and ‘The Battery,’ a proper release that will appeal to fans. ‘The Editor’ is our neo-giallo love letter to all things Argento and Fulci, and we feel it will be right at home as part of the Scream Factory catalogue,” filmmakers Kennedy and Brooks said in a joint statement.

This is one of the greatest bits of news i have heard. Period. I LOVE Astron-6 and have been dying to see The Editor since they started the Indiegogo campaign. It's a shame that they don't seem to have Canadian rights but that ain't stopping me from pre-ordering this day one amd spending the possible extra inport costs to do so.

If you guys haven't yet, i urge you all to check out Astron-6's previous works: Father's Day, Manborg, and all there short films.

Never heard of them until now. After watching the Manborg preview, I'm convinced they need to team up with Community's Dan Harmon to create a Kickpuncher crossover film.

I got to see The Editor back in October at the Knoxville Horror Film Fest and loved it! Glad to see it's finally getting released.

Scream is making some good choices on the newer movies these days. Now they need to go after Suburban Gothic and Housebound.

Which one of the double creature features should I watch first when I get them (next week most likely): Food of the Gods / Frogs or Empire of the Ants / Jaws of Satan?

I heard Frogs/Food is better. Not disc wise, film wise.

the F/F one for sure. Food of the Gods is pretty awful, but it's audacious in its nuttiness with giant maggots and giant killer rubber chicken heads and rats crawling on matchbox cars and Ida Lupino. Frogs is a bit better made and is a ton of fun. Empire of the Ants and Jaws of Satan are quite dreary in comparison, though I'm sure I'll end up buying them sometime anyway cause I never had the DVDs

Housebound already has a US Blu-Ray release from XLRator.

Yea my Escape from New York was shrink wrapped with the slip. Like the reversible cover with the original art work on it.

Thanks guys. Those were what I was leaning towards, mainly because of Frogs' tagline. Something with the line of "today... the pond, tomorrow... the world" has to be gold.

I couldn't agree more. For those of you who've never seen it, one of the Vincent Price FB fan pages posted this handwritten letter from Vincent in which he mentions the film and his feelings about it.

I just placed the following order directly from Scream Factory...

Frogs/The Food of the Gods
Empire of the Ants/Jaws of Satan

With the free shipping, it all comes out to $39.94 and a hassle-free acquisition of these movies a couple of weeks in advance.

I've posted several times in this thread about my love for Frogs. I like Food of the Gods a lot, although I don't outright love it. Empire of the Ants is a a good slice of 1970s fun, and Jaws of Satan looks like a fun blind-buy.

Awesome, thank you! How I never knew that was an option is beyond me. Haha! I knew that a few have been announced for release from Kino later this year, but I couldn't remember what all they were.

Oh, I probably should have stated that I was trying to purchase the remaining of his horror films, though I'm sure that movie is great : ) Thank you.

So far but there will most likely be more, they've been averaging 6-8 titles a month recently.

I think they said the previously announced Nomads would come out in August. Should know for sure when they put up preorders, which will likely be next week.

And if anyone is interested, since Scream put out the first two, Ghoulies Go to College is now on Netflix.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on the vincent price collections from a few weeks back. I did go for the first collection and after only watching the pit and the pendulum I'm already happy with the decision (although if the rest of this collection is as strong and TP and TP it won't be long before I pick up volume 2). Discovering the fun of vincent price and roger corman reminds me of how I felt during the height of DVD when it seemed like every week I was finding something awesome.

Jack's Back is also August isn't it?

Edit: Nevermind, I missed the post above with all the dates.
