I agree. I like to think if Scream made these conditions clear most would feel that way.

According to GetHarryPalmer Theater is with Twilight Time and the rest are with Shout. We'll have to wait and see, though it wouldn't surprise me if Shout announced a third box or a couple of double features this month ('An Evening...' is more of an extra really). If it is a third collection, it should be a bit cheaper than previous sets, requiring no more than 3 discs, unless, of course, they're adding The Bat or something from Sony.
Aren't there two versions of Tower of London starring Price, one from 1939 with Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone, and one from 1962? The 1939 version is owned by Universal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Scream did a third volume that they included The Bat. The Tingler will probably come from Twilight Time.

On the recent KillerPOV podcast, SF made it sound like they could license from Sony if they wanted to, but since they can't make extras, they're not interested.

If I remember correctly, Sony will not allow companies to produce "New" extras. There are no restrictions on existing extras e.g. vintage making of featurettes and documentaries, trailers and tv spots, interviews, commentaries etc. Scream Factory could do some of those Sony movies that otherwise wouldn't get a proper release justice. I do agree that Sony should allow production of new extras, but that doesn't mean Scream Factory still can't load up Sony movies as much as possible with what is available to them. There are some good horror flicks out there that Sony is sitting on.

This is a very strange rule that Sony have, I wonder what the reason behind it is ?

I can only speculate, but it could be something as simple as not wanting features created that they don't have creative control over.

Scream doesn't create new extras on a lot of their MGM stuff so I don't know why it's such a big deal for them when it comes to Sony.

Licensing from Sony would appear to be the next logical step for Scream Factory - there's certainly plenty to choose from: Piranha II, The Seventh Sign, Candyman, 976-Evil, to name a few. Sony usually provides very clean masters to make HD transfers for, so there's nothing to worry about on that front. Extras are nice but they're not essential.

Actually, between Twilight Time, Image, and Mill Creek--there's not that much left in the Sony vault (horror-related). They're better off trying to woo Lionsgate.

Scream could reissue some titles in nice special editions, such as Happy Birthday To Me and When A Stranger Calls. Lionsgate seems to be a lost cause. Plus, there's no telling if they even have usable materials for HD. For all we know they could just have a bunch of tape masters. Much of that catalog is made up of Z grade films. Probably the reason they're so reluctant to license

Well, we did just establish that Sony won't allow Shout to create new extras--so I'm not sure how the two titles you mention could ever land SEs. Plus, they're already available as a pretty sweet double feature on BD, for less than $10.

Re: LG--I'm pretty sure they already have a bunch of their horror stuff available in HD on Amazon Instant and the like.

I'd love a Scream Factory/Lionsgate deal in the future, but I also still want Candyman, Night of the Living Dead (1990) rerelease, Brainscan, Children of the Night, and The Last Dragon from Sony. Maybe Twilight Time will eventually release these.

Doesn't Sony have the rights to RAD(1986)?

They just need to flash Lionsgate. That should work.

I did find it interesting that Cliff and Jeff mentioned that Sony still won't allow extras to be made for any titles sublicensed from them. After all, The Blob release did have a new audio commentary with Chuck Russell and the Q&A at the Cinefamily. Plus, the Fright Night re-release had the Fright Night Reunion Panel added to it, etc. I can only imagine that Twilight Time may have a different agreement with Sony based on re-releases for some of their titles.

Price's role in the 1939 version is pretty limited. I suppose its possible. Im sure the remake would be in the speculation filled set.

Not sure why I thought it was Sony. Now they have no excuse! I agree that it doesn't sound like a TT release. To this day, I'll never understand why these groups (especially lionsgate) hold on to releases. Isn't some profit better than none? I'd be all over a Hellraiser or Cube box set. Too many good releases behind closed doors.

Watched From a Whisper to a Scream last night and really enjoyed it. Despite the PQ being somewhat grainy in parts the movie itself was really good. Scream Factory may I suggest a similar title? 1986's Deadtime Stories.

Which is not true at all. Grindhouse released three films they licensed from Sony (THE SWIMMER, CORRUPTION and THE BIG GUNDOWN) and all three were packed with new supplements. Hell, THE SWIMMER has a brand new 2-1/2 hour documentary on it!

Scream Factory has shown with titles like The Island that bare bone only supplements doesn't necessarily stop a release.

I can't imagine any reason Sony would object to features being produced for licensed titles... certainly there's more to it than that.

I can understand the appeal of extras, but personally, 99% of the time I don't take the time to watch them. Just give me the movie, that's what I'm really after. Tried watching some of the interviews, etc. that Shout has on their releases and I'm bored 2mins into it. Again, that's just me personally. Original trailers and stuff are neat to see sometimes, but they're always on youtube anyways. Some of the more documentary type extras are more interesting depending on the movie.
