I'm dying to find out as well. The words "start saving your money" were thrown around again so I think many of our personal wants might be confirmed when the interview goes live. I'm hoping to see THE DAY AFTER and MIRACLE MILE make the cut, if not under the Scream Factory banner then under an as-yet-unannounced special non-horror line. For now, though, I'll keep basking in the glory that is the Super Six ![]() |

I like Cliff was hinting that Adrienne Barbeau was doing a commentary for the Fog on Facebook, so maybe we will get a new one and the original commentary.
I always loved that Jamie Lee Curtis and her mother were in the same film together and that isnt the only one |

i know, it is no secret that Carpenter is a Hawkes fanatic but the film is also an homage to Night of the Living Dead. being based on a western doesnt make it a western any more than A Fistful of Dollars is a samurai movie. the plot is universal and could be used in any genre, which is exactly my point. the plot of Rio Bravo is not unique to the western genre, and the plot of Ghosts of Mars doesnt resemble it in any way.

A second-in-command with a troubled past must redeem themselves through the guarding of a prisoner, while finding themselves under siege from a hostile invading group and trapped in a primitive locale without outside assistance.

the 'martians' arent coming to the rescue of Desolation Williams, he is in just as much danger as everyone else and ends up helping them. they arent trapped, at least not in the way the characters are in Rio Bravo or Assault. dont have any memory of anyone having to redeem themselves in GoM.

Ballard is a drug addict (as the Dude was an alcoholic) and this mission gives her an opportunity to show that she is a capable leader. As far as the prisoner ending up being an unlikely assistant to his captors, that is more in line with Assault. Still, the connections between the three films are fairly obvious and have been discussed at length elsewhere online and in print.

it wasnt my intent to start an argument or debate, but ive seen GoM and Assault numerous times and never made the connection myself. thats all. my main point which seems to have been lost in all this is that of all Carpenter's films Vampires is probably the closest to a western. many of his films have the feel of a western, not just Ghosts of Mars and Assault on Precinct 13, the genre was clearly a big inspiration for him much like Tarantino. Escape From New York and They Live also bear a heavy western influence.

You're quite right about Vampires and the others having Western influences or elements. It's a pity that he was never able to make El Diablo as a feature film. I haven't seen the made-for-TV one, but somehow Anthony Edwards doesn't strike me as a very dynamic leading man. I also would have loved to have seen Carpenter's Creature from the Black Lagoon remake with Rick Baker FX.

i know its easy to come off as a know-it-all prick on a message board but i really am grateful to have people who are even capable to debate a subject such as the films of John Carpenter, so i dont want to give that impression if i am.

Well, I probably sounded a bit snippy as well, so it's all good! If you want to read more about Carpenter, the book-length interview published by Gilles Boulenger here is recommended - Carpenter is really engaging and responsive to Boulenger's questions and observations. I know that Carpenter is often crotchety or curt with interviewers, but these two have a nice repartee. Carpenter also candidly delves into films he turned down or was canned from, a surprising list that includes Top Gun, The Golden Child, Fatal Attraction, Exorcist III, and Firestarter.

Hey guys, I just got home a short time ago so hopefully when I have everything together, I'll start getting this interview up. In regards to a commentary for "The Fog", I believe it was recorded this past weekend although I'm uncertain on who exactly was apart of it. I feel like it could be Atkins, Barbeau, Tommy Lee Wallace, maybe even Charles Cyphers. Like I said I'm not 100% who was involved in the commentary but I do believe it took place already. Scream Factory will be going to town with the Collector's Editions for the "super six", I can't wait to see how they all come together.
