I agree with your thoughts on the original. Pumpkinhead is brisk and to the point, but it's an all around enjoyable film with great visuals, practical effects and a fun atmosphere. You could do far FAR worse.

Pumpkinhead is a terrific little horror flick. It's dark, atmospheric and scary, with great practical monster effects. The story is surprisingly emotional, too, and refuses to take the easy way out.

I saw Pumpkinhead this past weekend. I thought it was a pretty good movie. Straight to the point and fast paced. The only thing was that my family was over and they were being so loud outside that I couldn't even hear what some of the actors were saying. I'm going to watch it again next month though.

Pumpkinhead is generally more liked than disliked as far as I know. I love the effects and the atmosphere, Lance Henriksen is great in this as well !

Pumpkinhead has a fantastic mood throughout and I love it more and more with each viewing. The BD is pretty awesome. Too bad Stan Winston didn't direct more films, as he did a fine job with this.

Lance Henriksen is awesome. He kind of makes the movie. Put a different actor in that role, and I don't think this movie is that enjoyable.

Pumpkinhead is my favorite Scream Factory release to date! A perfect blu-ray release of a creepy atmospheric monster movie with great special effects! Stan Winston and Lance Henriksen rules!

Does anyone know who has the rights to this movie(has anyone even seen it)

Its not the best movie ever but i've always had a soft spot for it. Its got some good 80s horror actors in it and KNB effects but i never ever hear anyone mention it. Would love a scream release.

Based on the poster alone I’ll assume Lionsgate owns it. Vidmark was the home video division of Trimark pictures, both were purchased by Lionsgate years ago.

Yep, there is a long list of titles Lionsgate owns that would be perfect for a label like Scream Factory. Lionsgate doesn’t seem to be very interested in releasing a good deal of their vast catalog.

Scream seems to be having some success in the market, you’d think a company like Lionsgate would notice and at the very least test the waters on their own specialty label for these types of films. Won’t license out, won’t release themselves... why even own?

Here's a scary thought: What if Lionsgate doesn't own OCNs or original materials for their back catalog? They picked up so many defunct libraries when they bought out Artisan and they have barely released any of it on DVD, let alone Blu-ray. I think the reason they decline to license may be because all they have are tape masters or nothing at all. The Vidmark library, for instance, was created for the direct-to-video boom of the late 80's-early 90s, so much of that library are probably video masters. Even if the studio did have film materials for most of those titles, it's also possible they just trashed everything to save money.

Just like Warner! They have the biggest catalog with lots of great horror and action movies from the 80s. Just sitting on them and doing nothing! Companies like Warner and Lionsgate make me mad and sad!

For Lionsgate titles, if you go on Amazon you can see they have a lot of their catalog that is not available on Blu available for streaming in HD. So they sure have the masters.

It really baffles me they really don’t care for the Blu format, and on top of that they don’t care to make a profit by licensing the titles out. And they have licensed titles to Criterion previously.


I would ask Shout to try again or try to get the following catalog:

That's sort of promising but it still doesn't mean they have the masters for everything they own. It seems like these companies just buy up rights so no one else can have them. they see it as an investment but have no desire to do anything with them, other than maybe some of the top tier stuff.

88 Films is going to be releasing Creepshow 2 on Blu-ray. Don't know if it's already been mentioned.
