Was thinking about a blu-ray wish list the other day and Scream could do a good job with all of these.

I'm not up on which movies are owned by which distributor, so I'm doubting a lot of this is possible, but I'll leave it open to comment:

8mm
Alligator
Chopping Mall
CHUD
Dagon
The Irrefutable Truth About Demons
Leatherface: TCM3
May
Night of the Demons 3
Session 9
Waxwork
Wish master 1 & 2

Re-Releases:
American Psycho
Bad Taste
Dawn of the Dead
Dead Alive
Slither
The Thing

Have other region releases, but nothing in North America:
Inside
Split Second

I assume many were mentioned in the previous 1900 pages (or even last two pages), so forgive me for that... Some would maybe make more sense with Arrow or Olive, but if Scream released any of the above, I'd be pretty content.

8mm
Alligator Lionsgate or back with the producer
Chopping Mall being worked on with Lionsgate maybe
CHUD image
Dagon Lionsgate
The Irrefutable Truth About Demons - maybe with a New Zealand company ?
Leatherface: TCM3 -Warner
May - Lionsgate
Night of the Demons 3 Republic pictures ?
Session 9 - not 100% sure
Waxwork ----------------------Lionsgate
Wish master 1 & 2 ----------Lionsgate

Re-Releases:
American Psycho - Lionsgate
Bad Taste - supposed to be with Peter Jackson
Dawn of the Dead - the producer wants too much for it
Dead Alive --supposed to be with Peter Jackson
Slither -Universal, maybe shout could get this one
The Thing Shout has tried to license this - but no luck

Have other region releases, but nothing in North America:
Inside The Weinstein Company I think
Split Second - shot down by Shout

I assume many were mentioned in the previous 1900 pages (or even last two pages), so forgive me for that... Some would maybe make more sense with Arrow or Olive, but if Scream released any of the above, I'd be pretty content.

Many of us have these wishlists pretty often. Its a nice list of titles, but if you go to IMDB or Amazon, and see these titles being released by Image, Lionsgate or Warner, that makes them all unlikely. Lionsgate and Image could lose the rights to some of the titles but if they wind up in the hands of the owners of the film, that could be worse because they all want a ton of money for them

Thanks for sorting that pretty quick - much faster than it'd have taken me to go through them all. Figured that was the case with most. As I said, blu-ray wish list so fingers crossed SOMEONE releases them.

I'm kinda curious to see what Jackson does with his old horror flicks. He can obviously do whatever he chooses, but there's part of me that thinks Arrow or Scream will do at least one of these.

Does Warner own New Line Cinema? If so, bummer...there goes my hopes for Willard (2003).

Question

Does someone have a post or list or common knowledge for which studios Shout/Scream, Kino, etc, cannot loan from?

Sadly I see the same situation with DEAD ALIVE and BAD TASTE as James Cameron's True Lies and Abyss - the director will always be too busy to work on the films to approve a final release. As if they're the only ones qualified to oversee a restoration

Yep. Warner would have to release it themselves.

Scream sub-licenses from Universal, MGM, they have also with Fox, and to a much lesser extent Sony (dont starting thinking Fright Night or The Blob basically) plus some independent companies, the Italian films came from Filmirage

Kino has deals with MGM and also some smaller studios , but they are also trying to branch out since the MGM well is drying up

Olive - MGM, Paramount / Republic

Criterion - MGM, FOX, Sony

Twilight Time - MGM, Fox Sony

Also, before you go "what about Warner" Warner has a policy about sub-licensing.. and before you say *what about Nightbreed* - that movie went to Shout, while Badlands and some Pre-Codes went to Criterion were all favors to directors. If a director requests, or begs even (!! )for a specific title then Warner might license a title out - but they dont do deals for several titles. Warner might do some charity here and there, and Criterion does get special treatment because of who they are.

MGM probably at this point has licensed at least 500 titles to all the labels maybe more

Do Touchstone & Buena Vista sub-license? Or are they Disney owned for which I gather do not loan? The main reason I'm asking is because of Denis Leary & Kevin Spacey's hilarious "The Ref." It's one of my top "Want on BR so bad" list.

One of three things

1-Truffaut isnt alive - so this could be a favor to someone close to him type of situation

2-Warner may license a title to Criterion only because they are Criterion Criterion is by far the big exception to the rule to some extent

3-On top of that Warner may have let the rights expire to the film, like they did with Foreign Correspondent - Criterion may have gotten Day for Night from the producers or owner of the film

I also found out Martin Scorsese asked WB to license their pre-codes to Criterion.

Nope. Disney / Buena Vista has a bunch of titles that are with them (Selznick, Hitchcock, Kolchak the Night Stalker) - there is more to it than what Im saying but I cant recall, something about MGM having them, losing the rights and went back to Disney or something..

Given what's realistically available to Scream, I'm just hoping for more lower-tier MGM titles this year, providing HD masters are available. There's a few titles I think would do well as singles but most would probably come as double features, so I've tried to do some logical pairing, as best I could:

The Curse
Enemy Territory
J.D.'s Revenge
Exterminator 2
The Attic
After Midnight
The Ambulance
Death Weekend (AKA The House by the Lake)

Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? / What's the Matter with Helen?
Rolling Vengeance / Steel and Lace
The Falling (AKA Alien Predator) / Deep Space
Mom / The Vagrant
Curse 2: The Bite / Curse 3: Blood Sacrifice (AKA Panga)
The Alchemist / Transmutations
Monster Dog / The Cellar
In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro / The Bat People
Hunter's Blood / The Supernaturals
Stone Cold Dead / Nightkill
Blood Link / Open House
The Evictors / South of Hell Mountain
Dark Tower / The Rift (AKA Endless Descent)
Dark Places / Voices

Some of these are long shots, since I don't know if MGM even owns the rights to them anymore.

Also a few Fox titles I hope are released:

The Hex (I believe this is with Fox)
The Vindicator (see above)
Frankenstein Unbound (see above)
Warning Sign
Alien Nation
The Fly II

The Mephisto Waltz / House on Skull Mountain
Witchcraft / Devils of Darkness
The Earth Dies Screaming / Chosen Survivors

Thanks again dsman71. You're my go-to guy for these kind of matters.

I have shout/scream and kino 'liked' on my facebook but my time is limited on fb. I guess I'll make that time.
