No studio in there right mind would touch Clownhouse on any format. I remember the hell Disney got when they hired Salva to direct Powder (which I would love to see Mill Creek release). I don't think Clownhouse will ever see the light of day again solely based on the nude scene of the victim in the movie and the fact that he is old enough and smart enough to sue the pants off any studio that tries

MGM tried to release the film on DVD twice, first on August 26, 2003, then again on August 24, 2004. Both releases were canceled, but in 2004 the copies were silently leaked out. I'm just kind of surprised there is still no active release of the film on home video almost 30 years after the events in question took place. (1987, during filming.) I can't foresee any extras such as commentary tracks, documentaries, or interviews ever being produced for the film, but a 1080p 1.85:1 BD would sure be nice.
MGM only attempted one release of the film on DVD - and that was in August 2003. It was canceled prior to streetdate - rumor has it that it was Nathan Forrest Winters himself that was behind the cancellation, and MGM decided to shelve the film entirely instead of facing a huge lawsuit. Copies of the DVD did leak out at the time, primarily review copies and such, but it seems like MGM destroyed most of their stock. The following year, it may have appeared a second attempt at a DVD release happened, but what that was was more of a liquidation of copies found at some warehouse, and those were sold off quickly, but MGM did not actively attempt a second release.

As far as Scream or any other company trying to license the film, it's really not up to them. MGM has the film under lock and key and it most likely will never see the light of day again.

I wouldn't be surprised if a very small independent studio released Clownhouse.

But as for a bigger studio like Shout (especially considering that they release children's content) forget it.

I don't see any Bluray release of Clownhouse ever happening in the US (unfortunately, as I consider it to be a very effective film).
Maybe in Germany. But there are big chances it'll be a DVD upscale.

If Clownhouse does get a release, expect it to come out long after both parties of the incident are long gone.

Probably released in the same manner as Child Bride or something.

Anyhow, I still hope Scream Factory's partnership with IFC will result in some Shinya Tsukamoto blu-rays.

1. The film has music clearance issues involving the band, Fastway.
2. The film is owned by StudioCanal and probablt falls under their licensing agreement with Lionsgate.

I thought it was something messed up like Clown house's issues.

Any updates on Hell Night? What's the hold up with this one?

Maybe Scream Factory or Arrow already have it in the pipeline for 2016.

Jeff said on Screams page that *barring a miracle, this is very unlikely*.. Thats about as close to verbatim as I can get.

That's really disappointing. I saw this again on 35mm a couple of months back as was reminded of just how much I like this movie & would love to see it get a proper release.

The two issues you mention - music clearance and Lionsgate - are becoming two of my larger pet peeves when it comes to potential releases being torpedoed.

Music clearance is also an issue for The Keep as well for those playing along

Also, Rawhead Rex and Maximum Overdrive also are in rights limbo, maybe one day that will change. Fade to Black is either with Lionsgate now or possible with the producer who wants $$$$ for it ..

Even if there is a remake, I highly doubt it goes to theaters. It will probably be straight to VOD/blu ray like most horror these days. Mr. Curtis needs to get the original Hell Night out to the masses now. His plan sounds a bit nonsensical considering Hell Night was a low budget 80's horror flick that only the most hardcore fans even know about.

I can't imagine why people would even want that movie, aside from the possibility that it would have a slip sleeve. I watched that movie about 10 years ago and it was a steaming pile of s***.

  1. Ozzy Osbourne as a televangelist crusading against rock music.
  2. Demonic Walkman attack.
  3. Rock's chosen warriors will rule the apocalypse!
