I can understand a lot of people's issues with "Prison" and "From Beyond" but personally I think "From Beyond" is much closer to Zornow's artistic sensibilities than "Prison" was. He does really well with graphic violence and gore which is why I think assigning him a slasher film would suit him best or even "The Howling". Here are some samples of his work that I think really showcase just how right he for this line.

I just find Prison's custom cover absolutely horrendous... very close to those kind of ugliness:

But I love all the other covers that Scream Factory use. And the one for From Beyond looks great to me.

I definitely think he is a phenomenal artist, but he didn't capture those films very well. I do think he would do a better job on something like "The Howling".
I've seen other examples of his work, and I know he is great at what he does.

I was gonna make a post of all the Scream Factory titles I already own, which ones I'm gonna buy in the future, which ones I'm considering and which ones I'm passing on and then making a list of what I think they should start getting to work on. Then I remembered, who gives a fyuck. I'm just kidding guys but really get a grip your wasting up thread space in here with those useless posts.

But on more a serious note, just how much of a horror movie is "The Island"? And is it good enough to be considered for a blind-buy? I'll also be consider the bonus features it comes with. Your opinion on this will be valued.

Hell, I might get "The Island" based on the director's credits alone. Before "The Island" Michael Ritchie had some success with "The Bad News Bears" then post "The Island" came a couple true classics such as the great slasher parody "Student Bodies", two of Chevy Chase's best work ever in "Fletch" and "Fletch Lives", in-between those two flicks he squeezed in the lesser-know Eddie Murphy flick "The Golden Child" and it seems after the 1994 Chevy Chase vehicle "Cops & Robbersons" which is a guilty pleasure of mine, the director died in 2001.

Uh..."The Friends of Eddie Coyle" and "Smile" are flat out fantastic. Michael Ritchie was a great director.

Michael Ritchie didn't direct "Eddie Coyle." Peter Yates did.

Downhill Racer and The Candidate are two of his best, both with Redford.

LOL @ Batman's butler... that's like saying Laurence Olivier is known for Clash of the Titans. Caine had a huge and Oscar-winning career before Batman, you know.

And those are all pretty messy, and I'm not talking about the gore.

So why doesn't Scream/Shout! just do contests on DeviantArt? You have a ton of talented people, and to get the fans involved by picking the cover art they like the best AND getting a cover art for probably cheaper than what they are commissioning these artists to do = WIN WIN WIN.

The only artwork that makes me WANT to buy the movie is the THEY LIVE artwork. Every single other piece I could care less, be it the floating photoshop head posters or the schlocky 14-year-old fan boy angled art (like FROM BEYOND).

SF, you can do better than this.

I've really liked the original art for the first 5 covers. They Live was probably my least favorite art, but I didn't mind it.

Prison is ok. I don't hate it, but it isn't great. The Viggo drawing seems a little dodgy.

That said, I kind of hate the From Beyond art. Way too busy and ugly.

I believe both Prison and From Beyond are the same artist (Zupco or something). I may be wrong about that, but I believe so. I'm just not as crazy about his art as I am for their first artist's work.

Random thought - I kind of wish they released another Universal title in the place of "Terror Train", it could've waited, would've been cool to have a nice wave of 70's/80's Universal horror titles to look back on.

Default R.I.P. Deborah Raffin

For those that are unfamiliar with her, she was in Scanners 2 and other genre films such as God Told Me To and The Sentinel.

Source:

Deborah Raffin, an actress and entrepreneur who launched audiobook powerhouse Dove Books-on-Tape with her husband, music producer Michael Viner, has died. She was 59.

Raffin died Wednesday of leukemia at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, her brother William told the Los Angeles Times. She was diagnosed with the blood cancer about a year ago, he said.

The blond Los Angeles native, who as a college student was spotted by a talent scout while on an elevator, stared her career by appearing in such films as 40 Carats (1973) with Liv Ullmann; Once Is Not Enough (1975), starring Kirk Douglas and Alexis Smith and based on the novel by Jacqueline Susann; and The Ransom (1977), with Oliver Reed.

Raffin gravitated to telefilms and starred in 1976's Nightmare in Badham County as a UCLA co-ed falsely imprisoned in the South; in the 1979 thriller Mind Over Matter; as actress-author Brooke Hayward, the daughter of tragic Hollywood star Margaret Sullavan (played by Lee Remick) in 1980's Haywire; and as a businesswoman in 1988's Noble House, based on the James Clavell saga set in Hong Kong.

Raffin was nominated for a best drama actress Golden Globe for playing a compassionate caretaker opposite 15-year-old Diane Lane in Touched by Love (1980).

She was a regular in the short-lived 1981 ABC drama Foul Play, also starring Barry Bostwick, and guest-starred on such series as 7th Heaven, ER and The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

In the mid-1980s, she and Viner -- who as a music producer had assembled the Incredible Bongo Band -- launched Dove in 1985 in the garage of their Coldwater Canyon home. Viner had won an $8,000 bet in a backgammon game with Sidney Sheldon; rather than collecting his winnings, Viner asked the author to let him publish two of his works as audiobooks.

Dove would publish Sheldon's The Naked Face and salacious titles that included You'll Never Make Love in This Town Again, about prostitutes and Hollywood celebrities, and Faye Resnick's book about Nicole Brown Simpson. But it did serious fare as well, like Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time.
Jason Robards, William Conrad, Burt Reynolds, Elliott Gould, Roger Moore and Ruby Dee were among those who performed on the audiobooks for Dove.
The couple expanded into movie and television production but sold Dove in 1997 amid a series of financial setbacks. After they launched New Millennium Entertainment, Raffin and Viner divorced in 2005. He died of cancer in 2009.
Raffin was the daughter of Trudy Marshall, a contract player at 20th Century Fox in the 1940s.

In addition to her brother, Raffin is survived by her daughter Taylor Rose and her sister Judy. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Culver City.

*EDIT: I posted this here since she was in Scanners 2 and it's due to be released next year by Scream Factory.

Aww. That's sad to hear, since she was a promenent horror figure, maybe we'll see a memorial featurette on the release.
