Universal's post-1970 horror output somehow doesn't excite me very much. Other than Prince of Darkness and the first Psycho sequel, there's just too much "studio" stuff on there, not enough "B" flavor. Some of their 70's films were pretty good, like The Sentinel and Legacy. DEATH VALLEY was the only Universal title that I wanted to add to my collection and the only one that hasn't had a DVD release so I'm happy it's happening. Shout should go after Lionsgate next - they have the largest unreleased catalog, lots of good B-titles.

Universal did a poor job on Tremors. If this were to happen....a new transfer MUST be done for the first flick or no go for me. Then there has to be a mindful eye on any further DNR on the sequels....The DNR mess is atrocious and ruined the first movie for me. I do own the dvd's and for now I'll take those being upscaled on my PS3, but I shouldn't have to.

There's no point in posting titles like American Werewolf in London, The Thing, Army of Darkness and Darkman, as all are high-profile titles that already have releases, many of them SEs.

The Army of Darkness blu ray sucks. It hardly has any special features and only has the theatrical cut of the film. Without getting into a big debate about which cut is better; director or theatrical, you would think Universal would have included Raimi's cut of the film on the R1 release! The print is also very dirty and looks shockingly shabby for a film made in the 90s.

The Thing blu is passable. The supplements are ok but not as extensive as I would like. Universal has also recently did a gorgeous restoration of the film for it's anniversary this year that Carpenter has been touring around the country. Apparently at a few screenings he's been showing a reel of never before seen footage from the film.

The UK disc has a slightly superior transfer and includes the director's cut, albeit in SD, as well as the commentary track missing from the US disc. It's been as low as £4.99 on Amazon UK.

I can live with the UK release. I can't see it being re released anytime soon...

Yeah quite a few stores seem to be carrying these films on Blu in Canada. Cinema One is another one with them right at the front of their store. Weird that US stores are ignoring these great releases as an employee at Cinema One told me they have been selling well.

Agreed, these both could use better releases considering how big of a following they have. All of Screams' SEs have been superior to these releases and I don't think any of them are as popular as these two movies. Army of Darkness at the least needs all the extras from Anchor Bay's 2 disc set including the superior Director's Cut in HD. The Thing needs extras not stuck to a shoddy Picture in Picture track where the doc. is out of order, incomplete, and only viewable on a small screen in the corner.

I'm just saying Universal has it. I own all the blu-ray titles that I mentioned, however we can't rule anything out just because its been on blu-ray, or a special edition blu-ray. HALLOWEEN II was already on blu-ray and DAY OF THE DEAD was already on a special-feature packed blu-ray edition too. So, really we can't say its not coming just becuase it was on blu-ray already. It may be unlikely, but you can't say that it certainly isn't coming. So, I saw a point to posting them, or I wouldn't have done so... But thanks for expressing your opinion because that's what a forum is for. Not criticism.

Twister, with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt? It's on blu, and it's Warner. Also, An American Werewolf in Paris is with Disney/Buena Vista.

I would like to see Raising Cain and Firestarter on BD, though.

edit: It looks like Evil Under the Sun is with Lionsgate. Not sure about Invaders from the Deep.
I understand. . I skimmed through a few sites, typed it really fast, and knew that there were a couple iffy titles that I wasn't sure was Universal.

As for the ones that are already on BD, "Halloween II" and "Day of the Dead" have also already been on blu-ray. "Day of the Dead" even had a ton of special features. So its unlikely, but not impossible.

I really hope "Rollercoaster" comes through Shout or Scream. It could fit in either, but I just hope and pray it comes to BD soon.

I was just reffering to the SPMC set. Even though they've turned it down, I still want it. And Elvira, and the double feature of "Visiting Hours" and "Bad Dreams". As far as I know, only the SPMC has been officially turned down. Sorry, I kinda typed confusingly.

This has probably been covered but the Emilio movies above got me wondering if Anchor Bay still has the rights to Nightmares, the 1983 anthology, anyone?

In the audio interview from Scream Factory's facebook page Cliff says in reference to Scanners "another company out bid us".

I think that may be Criterion.

And after checking their site, Anchor Bay doesn't have "Nightmares" any more. so its more than likely Universal.

Or Motel Hell, and maybe Deranged. I'd like Deranged, but I would love Motel Hell. Its one of my favorite slashers.
