I agree. They probably wouldn't want to do it. But if they did, they very easilly couldve out bid Shout! Fasctory. I'm just saying you can't really rule any company out.

Sure, it could be any number of companies. But, based on the recent past (Criterion released De Palma's Blow Out, would Scanners really be that much of a reach after they've already dropped Videodrome?), I think Criterion is the most likely candidate.

Scanners might be a little too "bloody" for Criterion. The film borders on being a slasher/hardcore horror flick. Synapse just announced on fb that they're about to drop a big bomb on us so they're another possibility.

Damned if I know what Synapse has but maybe they have gotten more Hammer movies from Anchor Bay or a few other old AB titles like Phantasm or maybe they finally got the Kindred..
Or movies Scream Factory didnt get like Rawhead Rex..or other MGM movies like Squirm or ???
Who knows - it depends on what Don means by *Giant*
maybe its Godzilla 1985 ( giant as in Giant monster ?)
I doubt it but I can dream cant I ?

That's it.

Yes, as I opined before, Synapse is the other, albeit lesser, possibility (although if it isn't one of the 'big bomb' titles, I think we can rule them out). I really love Synapse and the quality of their releases (even if they'd been quiet since July), so I'll be rooting for them to acquire it.

Was it Synapse that was supposed to release "The Kindred"?

Yes it was but there was some legal issues if I recell. I asked Don about it every 6 months to see if anything new happened. Maybe he got Without Warning ??? That might be considered a giant to many genre fans. Id love it if he got those older Anchor Bay Hammer flicks including Quatermass

I think it would be something like multiple check stands with employees or a couple of scan guns or some smart ass thing like that. All this talk of a Scanners Criterion is really making me excited. I would in turn definitely blind buy Scanners2/ Scanners3 from Scream then.

Yeah, I'm sure that would be the case!
I would definitely buy them all, if that turns out to be the case.

What about the Demons films? Anchor Bay recently lost the rights to those and they have been releasing a lot of the same titles as Arrow (Exterminator, Frankenhooker, Red Scorpion) who recently released them.

Let's no kid ourselves. Only released to profit from the remakes...not for the general pleasure of the fans.

That could explain the "titles(s)" that Don referenced. Could be a double feature like Arrow did

I take it you haven't seen their incredible work on Cronenberg's Videodrome??

Actually Demons and Demons II are still on the Anchor Bay website, for the record.

A couple of flick that are off their site

- Dawn of the Dead
- Night of the Demons

And Shout has put out Arrow coordinated titles too, like "The Funhouse", "Day of the Dead", "Deadly Blessing", etc.

I'm just glad they got some type of blu-ray release at all (talking Mother's Day and I Spit on Your Grave), even if it was just to make money off the remakes. And they were pretty okay anyway. And they've recently released H4, H5, and a few others on bd. They still release their catalog titles, but not as good calibar, and not as frequently.

And maybe the "scanners" rights were needed to produce the remake for TWC.

Although both are listed as 'discontinued' at Michael's Movie Mayhem, and they're usually reliable. Plenty of copies still on Amazon, but that doesn't mean they're not OOP.

I didn't say it wasn't o.o.p. I said it was still under their beslt. Anchor Bay still has rights to them. that might be different next week, but for now they still have the rights to them.

And silent night deadly night 1/2 were o.o.p for years and its getting re-released in a couple weeks. O.O.P DOESN'T MEAN "WE DON'T HAVE THE RIGHTS ANYMORE"! A lot of people don't seem to understand that. But whatever... It is a forum.

Looking at AB's website, not a sign of Tenebre (nor Trauma, The Card Players, and Do You Like Hitchcock? either).

UPDATE: Never mind, Do You Like Hitchcock? is still on the site:

It only has two really gory/bloody moments, and one is very quick and short.
