That said, saving something like Exorcist III for then might be a good idea.
I'm predicting that Carrie is on of the next ones to get a re-release. It's the 40th Anniversary this year and based on the pattern for TCM2 and ROTLD, it'll get a new transfer. Brian De Palma doesn't seem to be busy so it's a perfect time for him to be involved in it.

It'll be a massive surprise if Scream Factory picks up Carrie. I really think it'll end up at the Criterion Collection instead.

I listened to Scream Factory's Killer POV episode a few days ago and they basically said Sony does license their titles, but one of the stipulations is they can't have special features? Which explains why these Twilight Time Blu-rays are bare bones. I've personally never bought a Twilight Time title because their transfers really aren't anything special from what I've seen and heard. Some of the titles they put out (The Blob, Night of the Living Dead '90, Fright Night, etc.) are titles that would definitely sell if Sony released them on Blu, so it confuses me why they just don't? I mean, they did Christine shortly after the Twilight Time Blu?

IIRC, the current Twilight Time release is mastered in 4K, like Fright Night, Christine, etc.

Sony does license out to TT, Mill Creek, etc. I don't understand why SF doesn't just license some of the Sony titles. Who cares if they're bare bones. I'd rather have a title released bare bones than not at all.

I 100% agree. If a more feature packed release comes later on, so be it, I'll decide at that time whether it's worth the money to double dip, but for now I'll gladly take a pressed Bare Bones disc over a digital release or nothing at all.

I completely agree! I don't care if there aren't any special features as well. Maybe Scream will eventually get to that point once they run out of MGM/Universal titles.

I'm pretty sure Sony does allow special features as long as they already exist. They just won't allow the production of new ones. Vintage making of featurettes, documentaries, director's commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes, etc. should all be fair game as long as Scream Factory didn't produce them.

What's the big deal with Sony & special features though? Why won't they let new ones be produced?

They want to own the rights to everything available for a film. If Scream Factory produces special features for a release, they use their own "Red Shirt Productions" company and then own the rights to that feature... Sony wants ownership of everything so they simply won't allow new features unless the licensing company is willing to give up the rights to whatever it is they produced and give them to Sony.

Thanks for the answer. That kind of sucks but if it's barebones or nothing I'll gladly take barebones.

MIA 3 is barebones and that didn't stop me from buying it. Maybe once the new/rerelease well is dry they'll rethink their position.

That makes sense. They just basically said in the episode they can't have special features, but I took it literally. I think they'll definitely get to a point where they'll take what they can get.

Me too, it just arrived today. Extras are nice, but a lack of them shouldn't prevent a title from being released.
