All of these rereleases has me concerned that the more obscure stuff they've released so far isn't selling. |

I'd guess that you've probably hit the nail on the head there! some of these recent announcements feel very 'safe'. I don't blame them (from a financial point of view), it's just a shame for fans of obscure horror/cult films.

Didn't Warner Archive do that recently? I know someone did. Made sense to me! At least then they have a rough idea of what interest will be.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to do a survey, but I've got to think that the vast majority of participants would end up being the folks who already discuss their wants and wishes here or on Shout's Facebook page, so they're not likely to get any surprising new data.

Either way, my belief is that I'd rather have the Sony titles released with no extras than not released at all. |

These re-releases are popular titles that will probably guarantee sales. |

Scream Factory has never hidden the fact that they need to release "Name Brand" titles in order to secure funding for more niche titles. The last time this debate readily was discussed was during the Mad Max/Escape from new York releases. Someone from Scream Factory, possibly cmac, stated that in order for a title like Howling II to get released, they need to put out some other projects that are guaranteed to sell well to offset the cost. The amount of fans lining up for Howling II at full retail price is probably pretty slim. I have every intention of picking it up myself, but not until I've A) Picked up a bunch of other more desired titles or B) it reaches a price point where I can no longer ignore it. (Usually around $12 shipped means instant buy) This idea can be applied to nearly any release. I'm hopeful that given the sheer amount of re-releases as of late it means that something special is brewing later on. I know better than to get excited about potential Comic Con announcements, but I can't help but wonder each year.

You and me both. It needs a new transfer badly, and the cast isn't doing much these days so new features are doable. Plus the slipcover design possibilities.
