Yeah, I'm not sure why so many freak out at Scream's artwork. Bad or good, they always give you the original art on the other side.

And as much as I freaking loved They Live's Scream art, I still reversed the cover.

Has it been confirmed that even the non-Collector's Editions will come with reversible covers? I thought I read somewhere that they were, but I could be mistaken.

Also, I just recently ordered They Live, Terror Train, and The Funhouse from Amazon, I'm praying I still get slipcovers.

The non-CEs do not have reversible covers, and judging by the lack of a 'Collector's Edition' banner across Vampire Lovers, it will not have commissioned art, only the original poster art. From Beyond will have both however, as it will be a Collector's Edition.

If they don't come with slips, email Amazon and they'll give you a 33% refund on each - that's what I was given for Super 8 having no slip.

We're just going on faith that they'll "probably" say so because the Halloweens were their big flagship entry CE titles, but what happens on Wednesday morning, when they get into the general business of lesser catalog releases?
Pretty soon, one premium corner gets cut for mass production, and then another...

The Island, Death Valley, and Video Dead/TerrorVision are all non-CEs, and none will have reversible covers or posters, so it's safe to assume that'll be the policy from here on out.

Really? Huh. Never heard of that.

That's be neat if I don't end up with them. Regardless I hope I get them. Especially They Live.

Neither had I, but I emailed them to ask if they could send just the slipcover, without asking for a refund or even mentioning damage, and this was their response:

Quote:
If you're interested in keeping the "Super 8 (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)" with the slight damage, I'd like to offer you a refund of $2.00, which is 35% off the price. To accept this refund, let us know and we'll issue the refund to your Visa card.
It seemed like a boilerplate response with the comment about damage, and the 35% refund, as if that would be the normal policy. I could be wrong though, this was the first time I emailed them about a missing slip.

In regards to the artwork complaints:

YES, it goes on waay too much, and as NoirFan pointed out in regards to the NOTLD 1990 thread it gets beyond pointless to make the same argument over-and-over again.

The argument that at least I make is that if Scream is going to commission new artwork, to at least put some time and effort into something that is worth the time and the money. I still do not understand why Cliff doesn't consider having contests in DeviantArt for the talented artists to create submissions for the customers to choose from. While I like very much the FROM BEYOND dvd cover art (and the artwork it was based on), I can respect and have no major gripe about the other original cover art being chosen. The bottom line is that at least the fans were given the choice.

But let's face it: most of the custom art is okay at best. It's either painted photoshopped heads (which everyone here complains about in regards to most blu covers, until Scream commissions someone to paint them) or it's like the FROM BEYOND cover which is very cartoony. At least the Second Sight cover is painted with oil paints and the characters look like the human actors in the movie.

When slipcovers first started showing up on DVDs over ten years ago, I really don't think anyone gave them a second thought. I worked in a couple of video retail places around that time, and the only related interaction I ever had with a customer was to respond to a complaint of his about the small portion that "we" cut out to expose the barcode in the corner. He thought that was stupid. I thought his complaint was stupid.

Flash forward to 2012 -- the biggest retailer in the land is offering a discount of one third because the blu-ray didn't come with a piece of cardboard. (It's even funnier if I'm correct in assuming the product page on Amazon didn't say anything about the release coming with a slipcover?)

It's just strange is all. Faintly surreal. I'd equate it to getting a discount because the package doesn't have that strip of white tape along the top edge.

But hey, it's always nice to get a discount, whatever the reason!

The photo for the listing shows the slipcover though, and technically it is a missing part of the packaging, just like a missing booklet would be. As I said, normally I throw slipcovers away without a second thought (although very few discs that I buy even come with them), but I did like this particular slip, which mimicked an old carton of Super 8 film.

As posted earlier, none of the ones released or announced so far have had reversible covers.

Damn...that sucks. I haven't had an issue with any of the art but it would still be nice to have the reversible cover option ala Arrow, heck even the Arrowdrome releases have a reversible cover.

And The Island doesn't and neither The Nest nor TerrorVision/Video Dead will, so that's 4/4. Or, 0/4, depending on how you look at it.

To be quite honest though I love the original theatrical art. Don't think you can go wrong with that.

In all honesty it wont matter because these are films I've been waiting to get on blu. So artwork doesn't change that.
