I imagine it will sell, well and hope for more obscure, and also with the Return of the Living Dead will definite fund them for at least 3 years, while The Thing could fund them for 10 years

You mean the double feature disc from Artisan? If so, I have that one as well, and while equipped with a passable (what appears to be) full screen transfer and two-channel audio, the first film in particular needs a reworking based on its "closet cult status" following...

Yes I did, and I was shocked too. I was so used to seeing it on VHS for so many years leading up to that. I'm bummed they don't have it on there anymore. That movie is probably my ultimate guilty pleasure.

I never said you didn't support them.
It makes perfect sense, just not to you.

If you've followed this Scream thread, you'll be aware that it was long ago hijacked by slipcover fanatics, cover art collectors and people more interested in bonus material than the actual movies.

For these people, wasting money and resources on multiple releases makes some sense in their Bizarro world. It doesn't makes sense to movie fans.

But they are the folks calling the shots in this thread now so the movie fans don't have much pull here.

I totally agree with what you're saying -- which is why I was going to ask Rick (who commented before you) exactly who he thinks this "makes sense to"...

It's had an HD print for years. It's aired on various networks and is for purchase Digitally I believe. I actually just watched it about 2 months ago on the El Rey network. At this point all that's missing is a Blu Ray release which given that it was recently aired a few times on a standard Cable channel leads me to believe that a release could be closer than we think as I've speculated several times in the past with other films... most all of which have come to fruition.

I didn't know Waxwork debuted in HD on broadcast -- nor that it had an HD print prepared; indeed, that's great news, and what we need now is a physical media release with a clean, sharp 1080p encode...

Well gosh, since you can somehow magically open the vaults of Lionsgate, WB, etc...please do so and in the mean time we'll just enjoy what we have for now. Like it or not we wait...these are little celebrations for "movie fans" who care about these titles. Everyone thinks they know how things are and how they would do it if in charge...it's just funny how powerful everyone thinks they are. What's the beef really they release what they can and also release a steady stream of modern horror from Chiller, IFC Midnight etc. Win win to me. People are just bitter of other peoples joy.

I think what Rex (and SeanJoyce) was trying to convey -- and it's just my two cents -- is that it just seems that way (that it's a slipcase cover-obsessed corner of the forum, et al)...not, necessarily, that "people are just bitter of other people's joy." Sometimes it seems like some of the releases are redundant in certain aspects -- not all -- and when we look at titles that have been seemingly re-released in previous editions with already (again -- seemingly/apparently) suitable video transfers and audio mixes (and extra packages), it at times seems to certain folks like the re-release was redundant...

Now, if I am misspeaking for Rex or SeanJoyce, then I apologize; I am merely providing some insight in to what they may have been attempting to get at (though his words were more...well...right to the point).

Who cares why somebody likes something? As long as they like it and support the label...in turn the format. Doesn't everyone win?

Is there some sort of established regulation on how something has to be liked? In this case SF BD releases?
If so, please direct me to it.

No, there's no established hard-in-stone regulation dictating what someone can or should like.

There we have it then. Everyone who enjoys these releases, wins.
Of course this being the Internet, it's always a little more neat-o to dislike rather than like...but to each his/her own.

You may not like it, but learn to love it.

At this stage of the game, there aren't enough catalog releases left, nor enough of a market for physical media for these companies to get by. It's not a coincidence that Shout Factory's current slogan is "The Collector Mentality Enabled." The only way to survive hocking physical media is to make it enticing to the collector. That is more often going to mean special features, slipcovers, and cover art.

I'm not into slipcovers, but I can understand the mentality. I applaud Scream for putting out attractive packages that collectors want to own vs. studios slapping photoshopped covers on bare bones discs and dumping them into the $5 bin. I'll say that the attractive packages Scream puts out has enticed me to purchase several movies as blind buys that I never would have given a second thought as a bare bones studio release.

No one seems to complain about the vinyl craze...much of which is fueled by limited edition releases as different color discs or special artwork. It's simply the nature of the beast now. It's either that or likely the end of physical movie sales and no way to truly own the movies you love.

I don't see how one makes the conclusion that people who care about special features aren't movie fans.
