There are copyright records that Steve White had intended to produce his own Amityville V, but it doesn't appear that film was ever produced. Had it been produced, it appears that it would've contained footage taken from the 4th film and may have been a direct sequel. I would probably view this as a separate franchise, and not part of the original franchise.

The Amityville Curse (5) is separate from the Steve White produced films and probably shouldn't be officially recognized as being part of either Amityville franchise.

The Amityville Horror is an official remake of the original film.

Everything after 2005, thus far, is independent and should not be considered part of any any Amityville franchises.
I wish Steve White made more Amityville films. So Amityville Awakening should be an official Amityville film after the remake? I wish there is a way to tell what is and is not an official Amityville film with the title under public domain.

Depends on what you consider official. I'm of the impression that Amityville: The Awakening will be it's own thing, not connected to any of the prior films or to any of the books in The Amityville Horror series.

One could argue that a truly exceptional horror film is exceptional no matter the set-up. I have a nice set-up now and enjoyed it when I was younger but it didn't hold up for me as much the last time around. It's not bad but lack of root for characters drags it down I think.

I found it boring and dragged a little, but definitely will rewatch my SF version in the coming weeks leading into Halloween time. Some films take time with me, and I know TCM2 was a huge grower for me. Eaten Alive is another I didn't really enjoy, but hope to see grow on me.

I know this has been brought up in the past to the point of ridiculous but it's been a while and considering the titles that they shot down in the past that they flipped on why has Hello Mary Lou Prom Night II not released by not just Scream but anyone? I would think it's getable with it being MGM and it's actually quite the decent 80's title. Tired of looking at my DVD lol

Does echo bridge have the rights to this? It appears they were the most recent to release the film on DVD in 2013.

I doubt MGM has it. With all of the studios that license from them, it would most likely be out by now.

Looks like Echo Bridge got their hands on it...

That banner at the top should read -

"The Ultimate in poor quality"

Yes, MGM's rights expired

Yes. The most recent release was about a year ago.

In case you guys haven't heard, Scream modified the Black Christmas cover and darkened Billy's face. It looks much better.

Here's a link to the cover.

Well that stinks...I bet if they knew then what they know now about titles drying up and lack of new studio deals they would have grabbed it while they still could.

This doesn't necessarily mean anything though...

Syanpse put out PROM NIGHT on Blu Ray around the same time Echo Bridge put this set out, plus they had their single release out.

Not saying that Echo Bridge didn't license it or has some rights to it, just saying I wouldn't count out another studio stepping in and doing a better release.

I honestly think the time for a legitimate Blu-ray release for Prom Night II has passed. I never understood why Scream Factory never bothered to pick it up when they were dealing with MGM but they're licensing mostly bigger titles these days. I suppose we may still see something in the future but if MGM doesn't have the rights anymore then it's less likely.

The rumor I heard was that the sequel rights were owned by the company that owns the first film, or producer rather. Not sure if that's true or not but it went somewhere after MGM lost it - that line of thinking certainly makes sense. It's possible if that's the case that since there was a pre-existing license with Echo Bridge for the first film, the second was just tossed to them.

It's also possible that they struck up the same deal as the first which could allow for another release... Hopefully anyways.

Pretty surprised that Synapse didn't get it when they got the first & Curtains.

I don't love it, but I watch it now and again to admire Hooper's use of widescreen. It has some really wonderful compositions.

I thought the original looked fine but this does look much better.

Perhaps they did. With Tenebrae, Phenomena, and Suspiria taking up so much of their time, (not to mention the releases of Mosquito, Manos, and Basket Case 2/3) and Popcorn among others still in the wings, it seems plausible that Prom Night II could have been snatched up as well and just hasn't been communicated as such. Fingers Crossed this is the case.
