Definitely not. I didn't see my first R-rated film until I was 11. I begged and pleaded my Dad to take me to see Conan the Barbarian(back in'82), which he did...as long as I wrote a brief report on the movie.
Now my two boys are 6 and 2, and I won't even consider a horror movie viewing any time soon. I get times have changed, so I will just have to evaluate the situation when it eventually does manifest itself.

Congrats guys! You won't find a more daunting, more rewarding task than that of raising a child.
Just be sure to say goodbye to a couple things:

1) Free time
2) Disposable income

I don't have kids of my own, but my grandnephew (who's now 8) has been coming over for movie night with his Uncle Ron since he was around 5, and we usually watch horror movies. It's usually the classic (or not so classic) horror films. We'll watch more modern films, he loves Super 8 and the Tremor series, but no films with nudity or excessive gore/violence. We'll also watch the special features if there's any on the disc so he can see how the monster/movie was made, so he knows it's not real. He still gets scared ("Uncle Ron, is your door locked...I'll just check.."), but he understands it's just a movie. He can't wait until he's old enough to watch An American Werewolf in London!

Nah, my 3 grandnephews and 1 grandniece are usually well behaved kids when they are here. Which is good, because I don't have the room to put all those movies out of their reach!

There's one existing scene from his version that is currently in Jaws 2 and it's right at the beginning after the celebration party and it shows Amitty all deserted like a ghost town and then the shark's finn comes up and enters the waters of the town. Always been one of my favorite moments in that film.
fascinating to hear about this! That's one of my favorite shots of the movie as well... very dark and creepy--- makes sense now knowing who directed it..

you're bringing back memories of what I would and wouldn't show my 2 boys when they were younger... I was very careful at first as well...

a few years ago they discovered WALKING DEAD and now most rules are off the table. They're 15 and 17 now so they just saw THE EVIL DEAD remake last week... times have changed!

Holy crap... I have 10 of those slips (Including Pumpkinhead, Dolls and The Funhouse) plus a bunch of other ones I could put into a lot. If 15 Slips can/will net me $250 I might have to part with some of these things.

That's great. My 3 nephews (11,9,6) are begging me to watch horror movies with them. They are obsessed about it right now. I think Tremors and Super 8 are great starts. The 6 yo I'm more concerned about but he loves those weird horror action figures.

EDIT
As for me growing up, I started the horror super early. Always understood it was fake...but just loved getting scared back when I was 7. I used to watch the classics with my late Dad....good memories. Although he used to tease me when I was younger that I would always fall asleep during The Exorcist. He'd wake me when her head was spinning. LOL

I sold a bunch of my Scream slips last year and got $150-200 bucks, I couldn't pass that up for cardboard.

I love Dolls, but am torn about spending the money on a movie that's barely longer than an episode of Westworld. However, two stores near me have copies with the slip. The problem? One store has one for $20, which is fair, but the slip is busted to shit and is torn at the UPC window. The other store has a perfect copy in a slip, but wants $35 (!) for it.

Don't be afraid to break out the oldies if you have them. I've heard numerous times that kids don't want to watch these old black and white films, and I say nonsense. My grandnephew loves the old Universal monster movies, the 50s sci-fi/horror movies, etc. The only thing I've heard him say that could be considered negative was the first time we watched the original King Kong, he told me you can tell Kong wasn't real when Kong first appeared. But after that he was into the movie ("Uncle Ron...what's going to happen next?!?!") and the stop motion animation didn't matter.

Has Shout ever done a deal with Fox? or do we know if that's a possibility?

So nothing recently with Fox? I'm thinking we need the Beach on blu-ray. Probably makes more sense under the Shout line. Don't think it fits in with Shout Select. Given the director and Dicaprio as the star, it blows my mind this hasn't seen a blu-ray release yet.

Been a long time since Scream released a Fox title. There's certainly scope for collector's editions, both new (The Fly II) and moreso re-releases (The Fly, Wrong Turn, 28 Day Later, The Hills Have Eyes, etc) but not a great deal for non-CE titles (Curse of the Fly, The Norliss Tapes, The House on Skull Mountain, Warning Sign, The Vindicator, Omen IV, Quicksilver Highway, Turistas and a few others).

I'm talking about Scream here btw, not Shout.

Yeah, sorry, the Beach wouldn't be a Scream title. The Scream Factory thread is just my go-to. Seems to be a lot more good talk on here. I gave up on waiting for Turistas and bought the DVD brand new for $2 the other week Would still love to see a blu release. Hopefully SF can start breaking down some more doors and get us some new content.

Oh I'm sure there's quite a few Fox titles which would make good Shout Select candidates, if they wanted to make a larger deal. Upgrades of existing Fox titles licenced by Shout (Capone, The Nickel Ride, Gordon's War, etc) would be a start.

I was actually thinking of The Beach yesterday. This would look great on Blu-ray. Cool movie.
