Matinee!!! So happy I could cry. Happy to see plague dogs finally getting a release also. The scream titles are okay. Nothing great but some stuff I'll eventually pick up.

Especially after getting Drag Me to Hell and The Strangers I'm really surprised they still haven't picked up Dead Silence

A collector's edition of Drag Me To Hell is a clear indication that the company is struggling to acquire more horror films. Really an unnecessary release.

Saying that.... I'm over the moon about a CE of Cyborg. It's been the one I've been hoping for for a long time. I can't wait!

The reactions to Scream's SDCC announcements always surprises me. Makes for a fun read either way with the extreme disappointments and pronouncements of the end of the label or for people that are incredibly excited about a release or two. Always a mixed bag I guess. Half the reactions I read here and around the internet like Facebook and whatnot are readying the torches and pitchforks for too many re-releases, and then you have the crowd that is begging for Child's Play 2 & 3 and the Jaws sequels despite the fact that they've all been released before. It's almost kind of a fun social experiment really (not putting anyone down, it just really is quite interesting, to me, the reactions).

I'll throw a little positivity into the ring, as I'm quite stoked at some of the releases!

Darkman II/Darkman III - I'm kind of a Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert nut, so I will be picking these up. I don't own either of them in any form at the moment so no double dipping of any kind required which is always nice!

Attack of the Puppet People - I have never heard of this movie before. I'm a big fan of 50's horror, so depending on price point, will probably pick this up sooner or later.

Eye of the Cat - Never heard of before, the plot sounds interesting. Like Attack of the Puppet People, depending on price point (might wait for a sale on amazon or something) will probably pick up sooner or later.

American Gothic - Probably my favorite of the announcements! Can't wait to get this one!

Cyborg - Huge fan of the 80's/90's action stars Arnold, Sylvester and Jean-Claude (not necessarily a fan of him at all times, but a fan of a lot of his movies), so much so that I already own this one. Will have to wait to check out the special features and the picture/audio reviews before I decide if it's worth a double dip (it's not one of my favorite movies of his to be honest).

The Strangers - Very different view on this film than some of the folks that have spoken up here... I thought it was an incredibly effective and creepy thriller. I've never upgraded my DVD, so this is an easy purchase for me.

Drag Me To Hell - as mentioned above, a bit of a Sam Raimi nut! I've never upgraded my DVD of this film either (not sure why), so another easy purchase for me. The film has it's down points (it took me years to accept the goat scene lol and I'm still not a fan of the ending), but when this film gets it right, it really nails it. And yeah, I put my phone down every time I watch it

Silent Night, Deadly Night - easy purchase for me. I've avoided the previous release for so long simply because of the horrible reviews of it (I remember reading somewhere that the VHS quality was basically better than the Blu-ray quality). So I'm hoping they can clean it up a little as I haven't seen this film in years and would love to revisit it.

Misery - I make NO apologies for my wanting a new release of this movie! It's one of my favorite films of all time with two of my favorite actors of all time, and I believe Kathy Bates gives not only one of the best bat s**t insane performances of the past 30 years, but one of the best performances hands down of the past 30 years. And James Caan is just straight up my favorite actor (or at least top 3) of all time. I already own this on Blu-ray, and yeah, it's got a great set of special features, but if they can throw something else into it, and give the picture quality a bit of an uptake (the previous one looks decent but improvements could be made), I won't even give a second thought to buying this again (owned it on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray... what's one more time for a favorite film?)

So all in all, for ME (totally understand some are disappointed), this is a pretty good slate of releases! Waiting on confirmation from Scream for Hell Night, and this is another year where they're going to be getting a fair share of my money!

Mostly MGM and Universal stuff, with a sprinkling of independent deals. I think that's about what we expected really. I imagine a mix of Universal double-dips (for CE's) and more obscure fare from the MGM and Universal catalogues will see them through next year, but beyond? Unless they slow down considerably that's a very tricky proposition without a Paramount deal. I'm disappointed we haven't see more titles from Morgan Creek or Bing Crosby Productions, I guess they're proving difficult.

As for MGM double-dips, if we surmise that Silence of the Lambs is with Criterion and Killer Klowns with Arrow, that only realistically leaves Hannibal and Last House on the Left. That well is very nearly dry. I didn't think they'd do Cyborg, though hopefully this means they've unearthed decent elements to do a director's cut.

I noticed on Facebook they said they had more announcements to come for the end of the year, which is interesting.

THE STRANGERS is a classic. I'll definitely be ditching my current blu-ray and trading up!

It has so much atmosphere, white-knuckle tension, dread, suspense, and raw terror. Still freaks me out when I watch it late at night, alone. Every sound I hear during or after it keeps me up. Easily one of the scariest films of all time, let alone the '00s (or, really, this century so far).

Agreed about the atmosphere, tension, dread and suspense. I'll also usually watch it late at night and it definitely freaks me out every single time... "what the hell was that noise outside?" kinda thing... which is the reason I love horror films, so the fact that this one so effectively gives me the creeps... definitely a great film in my opinion.

I think it's safe to say that SF's comment about having "logs in the fire" was just a typo. What they meant was that they have "Logs in the toilet".

Surprised that Shout hasn't picked up Cry_Wolf (2005) and/or The Hitcher (2007), since I'm sure they're available from Uni. And damnit, I can't believe The Fly II (1989) is still out there unannounced.

Personally, this line up looks pretty cool. I'm actually quite excited for the modern horror titles. Seeing as how Scream has released so much 80's horror, having a slice of horror as recent as the previous decade is quite cool. I'd assume Cyborg would be a pretty big edition, as I could guess that Albert Pyun would be involved in this release. Director's cut, maybe. The Strangers and Drag Me To Hell are very nice surprises. Two memorable modern horrors. As for Silent Night Deadly Night, it's pretty much given that this release is going to blow away the previous release. Pretty much the only way is up. Although, I might see a Dog Soldiers situation here if the only elements of the film are problematic film prints. Misery needs no introduction. It's going to be a pretty cool edition.

All these re-releases, especially of newer films like DMTH and Strangers (which I love) are pointless. And there isn't going to be any Paramount deal. This is it.

I said a while back, if the Vestron line from Lionsgate proved to be successful we might start seeing some of these studios start doing the same and releasing their back catalog and maybe start their own lines. Sony just recently announced 976-Evil which looks to have special features, new transfer, a nice slipcover and looks to be a solid release. They could start putting out their own titles if this sells well. And I suspect Warner and Paramount...etc will soon follow. Leaving the Scream Factory line with the scraps left overs. A.K.A more re-releases.

After this massive disappointment the only thing that makes me feel better is looking forward to other studios' output. Not so much Vestron (they seem to be in a rut as well) but Arrow (The Slayer), Code Red (Ghostkeeper, The Dark) and, particularly, Vinegar Syndrome. The studios that go after the obscure independents are the ones getting my money. BTW, if anyone liked Strangers I suggest checking out the much better and scarier original French version called Them.

We just revealed the following upcoming Scream Factory Blu-ray releases at our Comic Con panel this evening. Here's the line-up that will be coming soon to you in Nov and early 2018:

SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT (1984) – Ho Ho Horror! The anti-holiday slasher cult classic favorite is being prepped for release before Christmas.

MISERY (Collector’s Edition) (1990) – Hide the sledgehammers! Stephen King and Rob Reiner’s iconic classic receives the deluxe treatment it rightfully deserves.

DRAG ME TO HELL (Collector’s Edition) (2009) – We go more in-depth into Sam Raimi’s wildly-entertaining and wicked soul-cursing hit film.

THE STRANGERS (Collector’s Edition) (2008) – One of the scariest film ever in the “home invasion” subgenre gets an upgrade ahead of its planned 2018 sequel.

CYBORG (Collector’s Edition) (1989) Martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme battles evil in this late 80s post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller.

AMERICAN GOTHIC (1988) – Often-requested quasi slasher film starring Rod Steiger and Yvonne DeCarlo. From the Director of The Legend of Hell House.

DARKMAN II (1995) & DARMAN III (1996) – First time on Blu-ray! Both star Arnold Vosloo. Jeff Fahey appears in III. Official street dates for both are 11/7/17. Extras are in progress and will be announced at a later date. If you pre-order now directly from our website you’ll get it two weeks earlier! Darkman II: https://www.shoutfactory.com/…/darkm...return-of-dur… & Darkman III: https://www.shoutfactory.com/pr…/dar...ie-darkman-die

EYE OF THE CAT (1969) – From the Screenwriter of Psycho and stars Eleanor Parker. First time on a home entertainment format!

ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE (1958) – From Bert I. Gordon. First time on Blu-ray! Official street date is 11/14/17. If you pre-order now directly from our website @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/pr…/att...-puppet-people you’ll get it two weeks earlier!

We have no other details to report on this time.

Which ones are you looking forward to this most?? And, BTW, we have even MORE good stuff planned for end of the year and into 2018, we just can’t announce everything all at once smile emoticon"
Overall, meh. The ones I will likely get are in bold.

Only one I'm interested in is Silent Night, Deadly Night. I would rather they release a double feature of 1 and 2 as opposed to a collector's edition of Part 1, but oh well.

Nice to see another 50's title in Puppet People, and SNDL desperately needs the new transfer that SF will undoubtedly give it. Other than that, not too much for me to get excited about. I'd pick up American Gothic and the Darkman sequels when/if I could find them for 50% off, but in no hurry otherwise.
