Okay, thinking about the announcements a bit more - sure they might be on the weak side, aside from a couple of titles. But I'm okay with not having to buy every single thing Shout puts out. I'm having enough trouble keeping up with Kino, Arrow, Scorpion, Code Red, Vinegar Syndrome and 88 Films as it is.

It's a good time to be a fan of schlock, even if Shout! fumbles the ball.

I watched The Stepfather last night. I don't think I had seen this on anything but Cable TV and so I was pleasantly surprised with the shower scene (the woman that played the daughter is actually hotter now) but the movie seemed a lot tamer than what I had remembered years before.

The best thing about the film is Quinn's performance. I'm not sure anyone else would have done just as good of a job. Outside of that, its sort of a mixed bag. The criticism of the Reagan years that was currently going on was effective even if obvious. The performances are generally solid, but it is fair tame now. The final act feels rushed to me. For a while it seemed that Jerry's slide into madness was going at a good but slow pace... Then shit starts to hit the fan and the movie just speeds up. I think it hurts the movie in the end.

I'd probably give it 3 1/4 stars, but it wasn't quite as good as I had remembered. The blu ray picture quality was ok, but this could benefit from a re-release.

I'm surprised that Scream Factory hasn't released the 2nd film.

I just hope SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT gets a new transfer, the ANCHOR BAY BD release is like a DVD rip.

I picked up this and Humanoids from the deep about a month or so ago but haven't gotten around to watching The Stepfather just yet. I nearly watched it this weekend but ended up going a different direction with my viewing selections. Reading your comments makes me want to check it out again now so perhaps this week.

Both of those are fantastic. Humanoids is a fantastic creature feature and Stepfather is a great "character" driven slasher.

Loved it, but I'm definetly in the minority here. This film has a controversial past. A very favorable review is up now. The transfer does look stunning and the score is one of Ennio Morricone's best

Should've been the best recast in slasher film history, but Hellman screwed the pooch with that one.

The one Brian Yuzna directed was alright and so was the one with the killer robotic toys, though.
I totally disagree, guys. I think all of the sequels are varying degrees of bad, but I think 3 is hands down the best one. I think it actually tried something while not completely escaping the original premise. I actually think Yuzna's entry is far and away the worst. That one bored the hell outta me.

Also, don't forget that Leo Johnson was also in Part 3 if you want more Twin Peaks connections.

Unfortunately it looks like the audio is pretty bad.

For the CC titles, I'm definitely in for Drag Me to Hell and The Strangers, probably in for Misery and American Gotchic and maybe in for SNDN (even though I loathed it after my first viewing).

The added benefit for all these re-releases is that for those of us, like myself, who don't already have these titles in their homes can now jump over the bargain basement original releases and get the well-padded releases that are worth the money we spend on them!

Anyone know who has access to 'Mirror/Mirror' (1990)? I checked it out yesterday - would be cool to see SF release this.

Well, Shout Factory got back to me and confirmed they cancelled my Escape from New York steelbook pre-order due to the card I used had "insufficient funds".

Dammit. Well, I now placed a pre-order through Walmart and though i'll receive it later than I wanted and won't receive the poster (didn't really need it, anyway), I did pay significantly less for it overall.

No point in paying extra now that my desired delivery date is long past gone now.

Hope they knock Silent Night, Deadly Night out of the park because the other announcements are weak. I mean, of course I love Misery but the recent anniversary release is top notch already.

Already bummed they couldn't pull off a SNDN boxset though.. Again Shout gives the impression of laziness and complacency compared to Arrow.

We could get a SNDN Arrow Video set in the UK.

I would happily triple dip the first film to get that kind of a release.

I found it loathsome and repulsive...which I'm sure is why it appeals to lots of people.

For Christmas/Santa horror, I prefer Christmas Evil (aka You Better Watch Out).

I think the loathsome and repulsive atmosphere really enhanced the film's tragic element.

Billy got handed with a shit deal in life. His brother Ricky somehow had it better, though (until Better Watch Out happened).
