Slither is a film that has grown on me with time. I was really unimpressed during my initial DVD viewing upon it's release, but with each subsequent re-visit every so often I've definitely found a lot more to enjoy in the film to the point where I would say I like/enjoy it and would actually recommend it to most people. It's the rare breed of horror movie that I feel can be recommended to pretty much any kind of movie fan and they may very well find enjoyment in it. It's inoffensive, has some nice shocks as well as laughs, likeable leads and in general is just a fun experience. My initial impressions were likely based on me being the cynical horror fan that I was/can be at times. I've learned to lighten up a bit and enjoy most all facets of the horror genre these days though so Slither is a nice change of pace from the sub genres I usually frequent.

I still have the Alliance Blu Ray release so I'm in no rush to upgrade, but it is on my list of titles to pick up down the road.

On a related note, I'd watch Gregg Henry and Michael Rooker in dog food commercials. Love the cast in Slither, and while the meta feel oftentimes doesn't work for me, it does in this case, big time. Awesome effects, to boot.

My recent rediscovery of Night of the Creeps (1986) would probably be helpful to a belated rediscovery of Slither, I'm inclined to believe.

Those films have a similar vibe to them.

I rented Slither on amazon instant video over the weekend and only watched 40 minutes and forgot to finish it before my time ran out. I wasn't all that impressed with it though to be honest. I absolutely love Night of the Creeps though.

Night of the Creeps is an all time favorite for me, so that could play a role in me loving Slither as well.

If I only watched 40 minutes of every movie, I probably wouldn't be too impressed with some of them either Seriously though, my opinion has changed about movies after a strong second half but it's probably the exception to the rule. I usually like a movie all the way through

Yeah I agree. I'm upset that I forgot to finish it and there have been plenty of times where my opinion has changed on an initial viewing or a 3rd or even 4th viewing. I'll probably give it another try sometime. One thing I will say is the majority of the time I end up liking a movie it will grab me right away or within the first 30 minutes and if it doesn't it's rare that it will.

Was the barn/birthing sequence in the first 40 minutes? Say what you will about the film itself, that one sequence has always gotten a chuckle/reaction out of me.

No I can't say that it was. I do remember the odd sex scene though. I'm not sure if that's the scene you are referring too.

Nope, the repercussions of that scene are what I'm referring to. She ends up in a barn and that's all I'll say in the off chance you aren't aware of how the following scenes play out.

Ok yeah I definitely didn't see that then. I'll most likely give it another try.

Same here. I brought my girlfriend (now wife) to the theaters to see it and we both loved it. She was even more enthralled with the film than me, she requests it as part of our October marathon every year. I'll probably surprise her with the new blu as part of it this year, a nice upgrade from our old DVD copy.

I wouldn't call Slither meta either, it definitely wears its influences on its sleeves but it never feels too heavy handed either. Gunn wrote a good script and had a hell of a cast to bring it to life. And the effects are quite good too.

The best part of Slither (after Gregg Henry, of course) is the Corb Lund band, who went ahead and outdid themselves in Backcountry (another Scream release.)

Sorry about the tangent; Slither is a cool flick even if it's a far throw from Night of the Creeps' awesomeness.

I just finished watching my Scream Factory Blu-ray of Teen Wolf Too.

Teen Wolf Too has a 3.2 rating on the Internet Movie Database, but I figured that it's a 1980s comedy that stars Jason Bateman, so how bad can it be?

It is pretty bad, but it's also a lot of fun in a good-natured sort of way and, especially, in a 1980s sort of way. I can't say a lot of unfavorable things about a movie that features "Send Me an Angel" by Real Life. Jason Bateman is decent as Todd, the cousin of Michael J. Fox's character from the first movie. Teen Wolf Too follows pretty much the exact blueprint of Teen Wolf, with Bateman's character using his newfound werewolf abilities to gain popularity and to lead his boxing team to a championship. In the end, though, he realizes that he must prove himself to his friends and to the school by taking care of finals and the boxing match as his non-werewolf self.

Jason Bateman is pretty good, although he does not quite exude the same brilliant dry humor that he showed in the Silver Spoons television show or the It's Your Move television show from the 1980s, nor does he quite have the same dramatic chops that he has gained in recent years. Estee Chandler is gorgeous as Todd's nerdy love interest. Kim Darby (True Grit, Better Off Dead) is a highlight of the movie as a biology professor. James Hampton, who played the father of Michael J. Fox's character from the first film reprises his role.

Teen Wolf is not exactly a masterpiece, and Teen Wolf Too is nowhere near the realm of being a masterpiece, but it's wonderfully 1980s, and, for that, I can forgive a lot. I like this movie.

This Scream Factory Blu-ray looks pretty great, although nobody was really howling for a full-scale extensive restoration of this particular film. The supplementary interviews, which I'm watching now, are all in the fun.

On Facebook Scream have confirmed The Strangers and Drag Me To Hell will be coming in 2018, which is probably no great surprise. Given that they've discounted Cyborg for this year as well, I wonder if we'll see Eye of the Cat and American Gothic alongside Silent Night Deadly Night and (fingers crossed) Hell Night in December? Alternatively, they might have a few unannounced titles slated for December, since they hinted there would be more to announce for this year after the SDCC announcement (and we've only had the Naschy set so far).

As of this writing, HELL NIGHT is still up for pre-order from both Best Buy ($22.99) and Barnes & Noble ($23.99).

Of course it is. The denials are just a smokescreen. SF have already been outed as poppycockers - they'll deny something right up until the end.

I hope you are correct, but since this is one of their biggest releases recently why not advertise the hell out of it.

Because they're still upset the title was leaked. Kind of silly to allow retailers to create preorder pages and still hope to keep something under wraps
