It would be great if Shout could get the rights to Halloween 6 and finally release the producer's cut.

It would also be great to see them get the rights to Child's Play 2 & 3 and give them some special features!

my bootleg of halloween 6 the producers cut needs to be retired in the worst way. i really hope with how we are getting tv footage put into halloween 2 from scream factory that we can see more of the same with part 6. the producers cut of halloween 6 has reached legendary status and it think if you put out a ultimate edition of 6 it would sell a crapload of copys. i know i would buy one and i would force my friends to buy copys also.

Cliff can you shed some light on Shout's attempt to acquire the Miramax library before Echo Bridge got the contract? I don't understand how a fly-by-night could somehow outbid you guys for a coveted library only to piss on the titles (forgive my French). They can't even decide what film goes with what and so end up releasing the same titles over and over in two, three and four packs. Some of them aren't even in their OARs! I hope they have a short contract and Shout can swoop in and rescue this library after they're done milking it.

This always comes up in any NOTLD discussion. It's a valid point, for sure, but how much will it hurt in the end, really?

Are people likely to go buy a stolen piece of crap off of ebay or third party from Amazon? Or will the average consumer actually buy the product they see sitting on a shelf at their local store? Most likely the latter. Not only that, but people that are very knowledgeable about Blu's and especially NOTLD on forums such as this, would gladly pay for an 'official' version over something else. It's kind of a win-win.

But, I understand there are other risks and factors involved... such as the cost of obtaining a decent print.

How so? NOTLD is a PD film; NO ONE owns it (except to some consent George A. Romero) and anyone can release it so you don't have to pay a dime to get it. And finding even a 35mm print should be easy if Romero has a copy or you could use the Japan Happinet Blu transfer since it's uncut (though still having the framing issues). Though I feel in today's time (no offense), Criterion would be a perfect candidate to release the film on Blu.

Would you rather that than someone using the FF transfer that's edited or worse a transfer from another PD tape or DVD that was culled from a very, very, VERY worn out VHS?

Some other things; For what it's worth, Anchor Bay should've gotten the Miramax library (at least their releases would be better than Echo Bridge although they now've been getting better) and I think you guys should release SEs of Child's Play 2 and 3, maybe to even coincide with Curse Of Chucky. And again, I wanna throw my idea of a new Army Of Darkness release on the table. Lastly, when we'll we get an annoucement for Phantasm II. Sorry if I'm sounding bossy.

Army of Darkness would be sweet.

I do think that an in-store release of NOTLD would still sell, even if someone pirates the transfer later. Newly produced bonus material would be owned by Shout, which wouldn't be able to sell under another label. I'd also like a 1.33:1 and a 1.78:1 version (a la The Evil Dead).

I think Shout should really consider it. They'd be the first studio to release NOTLD on Blu in North America.

Funny thing about a matted aspect ratio for NOTLD; Elite tried to do a matted widescreen version for the laserdisc between 1.66:1 and 1.85:1 but none didn't seem fit (probably because info was cropped off) so they went with the original full screen version. Though I think nowadays, when making a widescreen image from an un-matted source, you can either matte the top and bottom, most of the top, or most of the bottom.

Cliff, I wish you guys all the luck in this world with your Scream Factory label and hope, that it will be a very big success for you guys.
2 years ago I bought your Blu-ray's of Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World and Humanoids from the Deep and loved them very much. It was a shame, that there was a lack of interrest in the horror fandom which forced you guys, to discontinue Blu-ray's of the Roger Corman library. So I hope, that this new sub-label will work out better for you guys. I will support it as much as I can and I can't wait to get my hands on H2 & H3 next month.
Unlike most of the others I have no special release wish yet. But I hope that you guys will continue to have such a good relationship with Universal, because they have a great horror catalogue. Stuff like the Universal Monsters sequels, Army of Darkness etc. could be a possibility, if that relationship will stay strong.

And I also hope that all of these 'awesome releases, I have to buy these' people will really buy your products and support you guys. Because if we horror fans let Scream Factory fail, we have no right to complain about bad catalogue releases again. Now here's a company who wants to do everything right, so let's support the hell out of them and show this world, that we really do care about quality products.
Just my two cents!

Since it's been mastered from the neg recently, there's absolutely no point in going to any source but the neg (Network should've just skipped doing it completely). The neg belongs to Romero & Co., and to access it would cost good money. Shout cannot just use the Happinet/Weinstein transfer. It doesn't work that way. And if Shout did, that could prevent them from ever being able to work with the Weinsteins in the future (which may or may not ever happen, anyways, but why sabotage that?). A lot of people think it's ok to just use whatever transfer of a PD title, but that's not really accurate.

It's not just a hard matte. You can move the image in the frame shot-by-shot. It's what was done to the Blu of The Evil Dead and the cropped version works very well. Looking at some images online of cropped presentations of NOTLD look great. It also helps cut down on some of the extra headroom that show up in many shots in the film.

I still say the smart play on Night of the Living Dead would have been...

Acquire the rights to the color remake... then package that w/ the original in a multi-disc set along with extras AND sign George Romero on-board and agree to cut him in on royalties for the public domain movie so that he would approve and give you some new commentary and such.

Given the popularity right now of the Walking Dead... IF someone had put that package together, I guarantee it would sell... and even if you worried about someone ripping you off on the public domain side, nobody would be able to put the total package deal together to match such a release.

That is ultimately why I was disappointed that Twilight Time got the rights to the remake. I know I beat them up for other reasons... but in this case my disappointment is that it means at least 3 years before my dream Night of the Living Dead package can even be considered
