I'm always careful with recommendations. If you can find a way to "preview" the film for free before purchasing - try that. I enjoyed it but the films I like are usually panned by most others

Guess the 'optional Italian audio' is a clue that there is an English track?
The film was released in its native Italy in 1968. Shout Factory's website lists both English and Italian language tracks.

I've read these same rumors that the materials do not exist anymore.

There was an uncut foreign release a year or so ago. How was that? I don't remember much talk about it, but I didn't think that insert shots were used for the cut segments which would mean that some sort of element had to have been used.

I thought folks might be interested in this upcoming book/Indiegogo campaign, which includes new chapters from Stephen Thrower, Kim Newman, and many others:

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
For many, Christmas is an annual celebration of goodwill and joy, but for others, it’s a time to curl up on the couch in the dead of winter for a good old fashioned fright. The festive holiday season has always included a more somber side, and scary tales of child-stealing demons to ghost stories told ‘round the fireplace go back to pre-Christian celebrations. These long-standing traditions have found modern expression in Christmas horror film and television shows, a unique and sometimes controversial subgenre that cheerfully drives a stake of holly through the heart of cherished Christmas customs.

Yuletide Terror: Christmas Horror on Film and Television, the latest book by Canadian micro-publisher Spectacular Optical, offers a definitive, in-depth exploration of the history of these subversive film and television presentations that allow viewers to engage in different ways with the complicated cultural history of the Christmas season.

Yuletide Terror collects over 20 essays and interviews that will deck your halls with insightful looks at all your festive fright favourites, including the BBC’s A Ghost Story for Christmas anthology series and contentious 1980s Santa slashers like Silent Night, Deadly Night. Unwrapping the true meaning of films featuring everyone from the Krampus and Scrooge to killer snowmen and evil elves, Yuletide Terror is a comprehensive look at TV and cinematic holiday horror from around the world, and includes a compendium including nearly 200 Christmas horror film reviews. This new anthology, set to be released for Christmas 2017, is the latest addition to Spectacular Optical’s line of cult film and pop culture books including Kid Power!, Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s and Lost Girls: The Phantasmagorical Cinema Of Jean Rollin.

Yuletide Terror features new writing by both emerging and acclaimed authors including Stephen Thrower (Nightmare USA), Kim Newman (Nightmare Movies), Caelum Vatnsdal (They Came From Within: A History Of Canadian Horror Cinema), Michael Gingold (Rue Morgue), Shelagh Rowan-Legg (The Spanish Fantastic), Alexandra West (Films Of The New French Extremity), Michael Helms (Fatal Visions), Andrea Subissati (Rue Morgue), Zack Carlson (Destroy All Movies!!!), Joanna Wilson (The Christmas TV Companion), Diane A. Rodgers (Cinema Retro), Andrew Nette (Pulp Curry), Amanda Reyes (Made For TV Mayhem), David Bertrand (Satanic Panic), Eric Zaldivar (Co-Writer, Django Lives!), Leslie Hatton (Popshifter), Owen Williams (Empire), Ralph Elawani (Bleu Nuit: Histoire D’un Cinéphilie Nocturne), Derek Johnston (Haunted Seasons: Television Ghost Stories For Christmas And Horror For Halloween), Neil Mitchell (Devil’s Advocates: Carrie), Chris Hallock (Diabolique), Ariel Fisher (Rue Morgue), Lee Gambin (Nope, Nothing Wrong Here: The Making Of Cujo), Zach Clark (Writer/Director, White Reindeer) alongside co-editors Kier-La Janisse (House of Psychotic Women) and Paul Corupe (Canuxploitation).

The book also features Motion Picture Purgatory comic reviews of Christmas horror films by underground cartoonist Rick Trembles, and original illustrations by British artist Alisdair Wood.

IIRC, the reinserted footage was in SD.

The reinserted footage on the German 84' Entertainment Blu Ray of Tourist Trap came from an HD scan of a 35mm theatrical print.

Anyone order Phantom of the Paradise from Amazon/Best Buy and still get a slip? I know it's been a good long while, but I'm just curious.

I would buy it. It's only out in a German mediabook I believe.

Not going to happen. There was a rumor that Warner's rights to the film had expired, but they rereleased it, not too long ago, as part of their Warner Archives MOD DVD-R program.

The best we can hope for for The Mangler is a Warner Archive Blu-ray since Warner still owns the rights. However, I would love to see one of these companies release Tobe's Night Terrors and The Apartment Complex since they never made it to dvd in the states. A better Blu-ray of Spontaneous Combustion would be great too since the Code Red one is pretty subpar.

I actually rewatched The Mangler last weekend and could barely finish it. Forget about the completely idiotic premise, it was just boring as f***ing sin.

One of the worst movies ever. If you want to watch a double header of terribleness just watch The Mangler and The Boogeyman (2005) back to back.

So I went to Boston Comic Con this summer and went to a panel with Jim Cummings (mostly known as the voice of Winnie the Pooh) and he briefly talked about this movie. He was approached to do the voice of the machine, or basically to make some evil machine demonic noises, and he really didn't want to do it so he demanded twice his normal salary to scare them away. But it didn't work and they said yes so he's like "sh*t, now I got to make some stupid grunting demonic noises for this crappy movie". Afterwards though, they ended up spelling his name wrong in the credits and credited "Tim Cummings" instead, which Jim was relieved to find out but felt bad for that guy haha. Look it up under IMDB under Other Crew, it true, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113762/...=tt_cl_sm#cast

The German Blu Ray Mediabook includes the unrated version of The Mangler. Sadly the unrated scenes are SD inserts.
