As a newcomer who loves most horror (particularly bona fide classics and the best camp cult classics), can you offer any specific must-buy recommendations of other SF Collector's Editions?
Other than the ones that were just mentioned these are the ones that I own that I can wholeheartedly recommend based on the films themselves and the qualities of the blu rays.

Halloween II
Black Christmas
Prince of Darkness
The Fog
The Burning
Carrie
Child's Play
The Howling
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Psycho 2
Psycho 3

Yeah, I tried to grab the Eaten Alive Arrow but it's temporarily out of stock (was it limited? or just an influx of orders after Hooper's death?). I skipped the SF releases of Lifeforce and Invaders from Mars because they weren't Collector's Editions (silly reason, I know) and because they seemed more sci-fi than horror and were the most critically maligned.

If you had to pick the 2 or 3 best Collector's Editions (other than Romero and Hooper) to recommend as blind buys, what would they be?

I forgot, I did also pick up The Invasion of the Body Snatchers which I intend to watch as a double feature with the original. Some of those others are great suggestions, thanks. I have seen Halloween II many times so it should be a no-brainer for me.

I have to add that I see you are on the fence about Lifeforce which I was for a very long time but I finally ended up blind buying it and loved it. It's not perfect but I think it's Hooper's most effective film after the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Also there is a replacement program for Black Christmas (if you end up picking that one up) due to a faulty mono audio track that had terrible sibilance, hiss and popping issues. They should be all fixed now but just in case you get a bad copy you can just contact them to get a replacement.

Quote:
We are now taking pre-orders for our upcoming release of the eccentric stranded-on-an-island 1988 thriller AMERICAN GOTHIC which makes its Blu-ray format debut! Release date is planned for December 19th.

When six young friends fly off on a weekend getaway and suddenly find themselves with engine trouble, they have no choice but to land on a remote Pacific island. Looking for shelter, they are grateful when they meet "Ma" and "Pa" and their children – an bizarre family still living in the backwoods as if it's still the 1920s. But what begins as simple old-school hospitality becomes a terrifying race for survival when one by one, the friends start disappearing and dying horrible deaths. Fleeing the outside world many years ago, the family has created an island domain, where all strangers are sinners – and the killing has never stopped.

Features an all-star cast including Rod Steiger (The Amityville Horror), Yvonne De Carlo (Silent Scream), Michael J. Pollard (Bonnie and Clyde) and William Hootkins (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and is from Director John Hough (The Legend of Hell House, The Watcher in the Woods and The Incubus).

I picked up:

The Producers Collector's Edition
Army of Darkness Collector's Edition (It seems to go for 23-25 bucks at this point)
Session 9
Fender Bender

53 bucks total. I don't know if Fender Bender is any good, but I wanted the free shipping and so I picked it up since it was only 6.99. I hope its decent at least.

I wasn't a big fan of Army of Darkness when I last saw it in 1996, but it's a pretty expensive Scream Factory release and I have the other films in the series and I might as well give the movie another shot and complete the Evil Dead collection.

American Gothic, a movie I remember always seeing in the video store but never rented. I'll gladly get this Scream edition. I mean, it's cool, right?

Too bad American Gothic is (apparently) bare-bones. I was looking forward to picking it up. Ah well, more money in my wallet (for other purchases :P )!

I'll probably blind buy American Gothic if the price is right.

The Fog
Black Christmas
Serial Mom
Jeepers Creepers

and I'd highly recommend Final Exam & Cherry Falls for non-Collector's Editions.

Black Christmas
and The Burning are my favorite collectors editions but buy Ghost Story if you like unique ghost stories.

Some of my favorite collectors editions for Halloween viewing. There are more and also non-collectors editions I really like but here's a couple:
Sleepaway Camp 1-3
Pumpkinhead
The Howling
Both Tales from the Crypt
Ginger Snaps

HA! Told you!

Quote:
**OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION: HELL NIGHT is coming!**

Today we can (finally) provide some more concrete updates on our plans for the 1981 horror favorite HELL NIGHT. Here’s what we can divulge at this time:

- The Blu-ray & DVD combo will be branded as a "Collector's Edition" that will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date)

- The Producer-approved newly-commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from artist Justin Osbourn (Lifeforce, Pumpkinhead, Prince of Darkness). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will showcase the original theatrical poster art design.

- Extras are still in progress and will be announced sometime in October.

- National U.S. & Canada Release date is set for 12/12/17. If you pre-order now directly from our website @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/…/hell-...s-editi… it will ship two weeks early plus you’ll receive a FREE exclusive and collectible 18” x 24” rolled poster of the newly-designed key art. Posters will be made at a limited quantity so secure them now!

- As some of you already know, this title was leaked on several retailer sites prematurely before we could make a proper announce. The reason we couldn’t address it more publicly once that became more widespread is because we were having some technical difficulties. The title was originally planned for a Late Summer release but needed to be delayed because we became faced with an unforeseen and unwelcome scenario that we could not locate any of the original film elements despite trying many avenues to acquire them. Fortunately though we were able to access a good archival print and it is from this element that we will be doing a 4K scan of the film (including hours of intensive restoration work) so that we can get it to look the best it possibly can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We genuinely share your excitement on this particular film (it’s been highly-requested for years) and can’t wait for the final product!

Another one I've never seen and don't know a ton about, but looks like I'll be adding Hell Night to my list of "to buys".

I probably haven't watched Hell Night in over 15 years or so.

It's not your average slasher movie. Whoever said it was like a cross between Terror Train and The Funhouse was right on the money.
