Since eOne acquired Alliance does that mean they also got EBHE? If so, maybe eOne will whip EBHE into shape. It's unfortunate what EBHE is doing to some of these titles.

Annoyingly, too, since they have some great titles.

At this rate, I'd settle for all three Ginger Snaps films on one disc.

Does it really matter? They're both terrible companies. As I understand it, Alliance Atlantis' releases have terrible picture quality.

Alliance and Echo Bridge have been partners, but aren't releated beyond that.
They did both aquire the Miramax catalogue in their respective countries (Canada and the US), and they do have many of the same shows and films (Degrassi, Prom Night, etc...) But they aren't jointed together.

Echo Bridge was formerly Platinum Disc, who put out "Prom Night" with Alliance. Both companies names are on the packaging. So they have worked together.

And it could also be possible that Alliance is the rights-holder to "Prom Night", but Echo Bridge (aka: Platinum Disc) may have subliscensed it from them.
If so, then when Echo Bridge's deal expires, eOne may be the official rightsholder to "Prom Night" in North America. Then again, maybe Echo Bridge got it from another company, or they just genuinely own the film.

If that happens, could eOne do a better job with Prom Night? Also, why is that Echo Bridge treats every film horribly while they seem to be more kind to Degrassi?

Since Timeless Media Group (TMG) is a subsidary of Shout!, is there any chance that they could have access to some of those films? I don't really know what Shouts rights are in this situation, but they do have a few titles that might fit well with Scream Factory.

An example (a bad example at that) would be "The Howling" 3/5/6. But since cliff wouldn't go for "The Howling II", I doubt he would for any others. Maybe Timeless has some better choices...

No likely. New transfers would need to be done.
I happen to like "The freaks" Howling film.
But there are no HD masters.
It won't sell enough copies to warrant three HD transfers. That's a big cost.

Cliff,
That's a shame about no more Albert Pyun movies. They seemed quirky and different enough that I thought they would be a shoe in for your company. Perhaps one day down the road? I just would love to see these in their original aspect ratio. His films, like some of the Empire catalogue has never been on dvd and the old VHS is OOP.
If anything, hopefully my request is taken into consideration for future MGM acquisitions.

Thanks again for all of the great releases!

Mark

A complete fallacy.

98% of Alliance's Blu-ray business is the distribution of major titles that are exactly the same transfers as the American releases. SHAUN OF THE DEAD, LORD OF THE RINGS, KILL BILL, HOT FUZZ, CORALINE, HALLOWEEN, LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, HAIRSPRAY, PLEASANTVILLE, FINAL DESTINATION, THE NOTEBOOK and hundreds more. That's what they do...distribute Blu-rays. Most of their titles were New Line and Universal.

They also took it upon themselves to make a very small number of exclusive Blu-rays for the Canadian market. Some of them were very good and some of them weren't. This tiny number of Canadian exclusives was a small drop in the Alliance bucket.

The problem is, Americans were only interested in obtaining some of those Canadian exclusives (they obviously wouldn't bother ordering THE NOTEBOOK from Canada). So they would order some of these very limited Canadian exclusives, and, if they were below par (like THE RED VIOLIN for example) they tarred the whole company.

People don't post that "Alliance did a superb job on SHAUN OF THE DEAD and THE NOTEBOOK" because nobody knows of them as Alliance titles. But everybody seems to know that the Canadian exclusive release of BLADE is cropped.

But on the internet, 20 unhappy American importers of BLADE have a bigger voice than 20,000 happy Canadian owners of SHAUN OF THE DEAD.

I thought many (most?) Alliance discs were interlaced.

Well, I was mainly referring to DVDBeaver's complaints about them regarding older films like this one.

I love the Freaks, as well as the first two. And aren't the Timeless Howling Films on blu-ray anyway?

Too bad that Echo Bridge owns "Prom Night". Would love to see that movie on blu-ray from Scream Factory!

Cliff, What are the chances on a blu-ray release of "Pumpkinhead" and "Squirm" from Scream Factory?

Hey guys, sorry to sidetrack this for a minute but I just felt like this needed another reminder for everyone since the deal is just insane. On March 19th, Shout Factory is releasing a 2-DVD Action Packed Movie Collection with "Cyclone", "Alienator", "Eye of the Tiger" and "The Exterminator 2". The pre-order price is a mere $7.99! It's an insane deal and definitely worth picking up as these films all look like a ton of fun.
