Final Exam is good fun.

I'm surprised to see all the hate for The Slayer, watched it over the week-end and thought it was pretty good. A slow burn for sure, but it delivered in the end... and that creature was awesome. Also, the transfer was fantastic, first time seeing the movie so I had no reference point, but there is no way this could ever look better.

Final Exam has made the very short list of movies I can watch anytime. Last weekend I was just staring at my collection for like 5 minutes to figure out what to watch and my eye just kept going to Final Exam. Watching it again was as great as ever! Love Raddish! Just like me, he is nerdy, loves horror, and has a Toolbox Murders poster.

Fun fact - he is an extra in John Carpenter's Christine.

I do seem to recall hearing rumblings that Shout Factory put in a bid for the library but that it was declined.

As for when Scream Factory's license runs out... only they could answer that for sure. Given that most of their Blu Ray releases came out in Summer 2010 however, it's reasonable to assume that we are nearing the end of those licenses. If I were to guess (and to be clear this is exactly what I am doing) I would speculate that stuff like Piranha, Humanoids from the Deep, and some of the other Corman films could see their licenses run out in 2019 or 2020 if they were 10 year agreements and no extension was granted.

I picked up Humanoids and The Stepfather last year fearing that the licenses may be expiring soon, and this post has reminded me that I need to pick up Piranha and Forbidden World as well. I had thankfully picked up Audition years before it went out of print and if you can learn anything from this forum it's that when it comes to horror films on Blu Ray, it's better to buy right away as you never know when things will disappear. Sometimes it takes years, other times, as is the case with the phantasm box set, it takes just a few weeks.
Thank you for your quick response. I'm going to order some of the Corman Blus soon.

I sent a message to Shout Factory on facebook asking them when the Corman license expires and if they will be upgrading anymore of their Corman DVD releases to Blu-ray I wonder what they will say.

Don't overlook Shout's Corman DVDs. Some of them look great and are superior titles. Ask me or Owl any questions. Between us we probably own them all.

Have they said anything about Howling III or the rest of the Ginger Snaps trilogy?

I would also rather Arrow released Last House on the Left. They gave The Hills Have Eyes fantastic treatment and if they could do that for Last House, I'd be thrilled.
How hard is it to get access to the Sony catalogue? Twilight Time have access but have no interest in the genre titles.

They seriously need to act fast, the rubbish just announced shows dark days ahead. 1970s horror titles are not good sellers, and they need to seriously look at other options than blowing cobwebs off old MGM junk.

For example $30 USD RRP for american Gothic, a Bare bones disc...shows they are in trouble.

Mill Creek also has a deal with Sony.

I'm not sure what the real core reason is behind no Sony titles popping up in the Scream Factory line.

I've seen SF mention that Sony doesn't like new special features produced without Sony's ok and Sony taking complete ownership of the materials created. I'm npt sure if that's the answer though.

Arrow is in the same boat. Haven't had a decent lineup in months.

Down here in australia, of course things are very different in the US, the sony catalogue is pretty easy to obtain, was speaking with an insider down here and theres no real restrictions.

Its a very odd situation.

With regard to this ongoing discussion about monthly announcements from Scream, Arrow, etc. not being as exciting these days...

Part of the issue may simply be the fact that most of the mass recognition “gotta have it now” movies have already been given good Blu-ray releases by now, so labels are delving into the wellspring of more obscure best-kept-secret films.

I love the horror genre through and through, and I love discovering previously unheard-of movies from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s that are released by Scream, Arrow, Code Red, and such, but, in all honesty, and let's face it...most of the essential horror classics that I absolutely cannot live without in my collection have already been released. I've already got the Friday the 13th films, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Shining, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Salem's Lot, Suspiria, Jaws, Psycho, Alien, Night of the Living Dead, Poltergeist, The Fog, The Return of the Living Dead, Halloween, the classic Universal Monsters movies, the Vincent Price movies, the more notable Roger Corman movies, and all of that.

There are a few exceptions, of course. I want The Changeling. I want the 1978 Dawn of the Dead in a readily available edition. I want Alligator. Etc.

For the most part, though, most of us have got a darn solid horror collection on Blu-ray when it comes to the stuff that we grew up discovering in the 1970s and 1980s.

Most of what's coming out right now from Scream and Arrow is icing on the cake.
...and, a lot of the time, that icing is still delicious.

I just have been noticing that Shout is upgrading quite a few of their 4 DVD Releases to Blu. They have already upgraded Alienator, Exterminator 2, Vicious Lips, Invasion of the Bee Girls, I Escaped from Devils Island, The Final Option etc. I am just wondering if the trend will continue with the remaining Corman titles. It seems like Big Bad Mama was the last Corman Blu upgrade from Shout.

So far I have bought 2 DVD packs from Shout. The first one is 4 Cult Movie Marathion Volume 2 and the picture quality of the movies in this release is really bad and then the second one is 4 Action-packed Movie Marathon Vol 1 and the picture quality on this set is actually really good.

I feel like Shout DVD releases might be hit or miss.

I was wondering if you could tell me if the following Corman DVD releases have good picture quality.

Lethal Ladies Vol. 1, Lethal Ladies Vol.2,
Caged Heat/Jackson County Jail Double Feature
Georgia Peaches, The Great Texas Dynamite Chase, Smokey Bites the Dust
Sword and Sorcery Collection
Last but not least The Nurses Collection ( I already ordered this still waiting on delivery)

Thank You man , I appreciate you offering your advice !

There are still tons of films that need a blu ray release.

Dawn of the dead (oop)
Bad taste
Meet the Feebles
Braindead (oop)
The Hitcher
The Changeling (severin might release it?)
Alice Sweet Alice
April Fools Day
Candyman (needs a US release)
Valentine
Urban Legends 2 and 3
Killer Party
The Bogeyman sequels
Fade to Black
Edge of the Axe
Rush Week

I can literally go on and on. So much stuff and a lot of big name titles out there. Yes, I know certain companies don't like to sub license out their films but there definitely is no shortage at all of good films left.

Overall I'm quite happy with the recent announcement. I'm a sucker for obscure cult films, so I prefer for them to scrape that bottom up. There are many hidden gems waiting to be released. I'm wanting all four of the new announced titles and the new steelbooks they are releasing are sick looking. Looking forward to The Burbs too. Still waiting on my most anticipated title Mac and Me. Overall I think thier doing fine

Hoping Cemetery Man comes along later this year too.
